Steinberg released today the new versions of its HALion and HALion Sonic VST sampler and workstation.

HALion 5 and HALion Sonic 2 both include 8 new virtual instruments: the Trium (VA) and Auron (granular) synths, Voltage, World Instruments and World Percussions, HALiotron, the Model C organ emulation and B-Box beat step sequencer.

Nine new effects have also been included, such as the VST Amp for guitar and bass, the Auto Filter for sound morphing or the FlexPhraser, based on the Yamaha Motif technology, which allows for creating complex arpeggios and includes a phrase editor.

HALion 5 features two new sound sources: a granular synthesis engine and a tonewheel organ emulation with nine drawbars and percussions.

A Slice Mode also makes its debut, as well as two MIDI modules: a player that allows you to edit and trigger remote MIDI files, and the Drum Player step sequencer to create rythms and beats.

HALion 5 is available for purchase for 349€ and HALion Sonic 2 retails for 249€. Updates are available for 99.99€ and if you registered HALion 4, HALion Sonic 1 or the Absolute VST Instrument Collection after May 15th, you get a grace period and can download the updates for free. Both new versions are available in VST2.4, VST3, AU and standalone versions for Mac OS X and Windows.

You can see video presentations of the new instruments and effects in the media tab above.
