UTILIZATION

Nothing more simple, batteries, lights on the keyboard is pressed ribbon, buttons turns on and begins immediately to know what we do.
Very easy to use. For someone wanting to start in analog, it's cool and not very expensive.
Small BAR 3 tracks evoking "by far" the famous minipops of the same brand.
Sequence on the fly to the synth part.
Manual well as everything is understandable on the machine!
To play with the switches, turn the potentiometer, and this is the best learning.
For my part, used synth in 10 minutes, I had the monotribe in hand!
updated version 2 simple to do. A cable "jack (supplied), a sound file (on the net) playing with his reader PC audio (PC headset out in the lobby of monotribe) is launched and it goes in 3 minutes. (This reminds me my sound banks on the Yamaha DX21 with my tape recorder and specific plug! was late 80 ').

SOUNDS

For sounds, fat, pure and simple analog. One oscillator, a resonant filter, LFO (S / H) with the updated version 2 (essential!).
I used a lot of the noise generator and the cutoff frequency of the filter to create the sounds of "waves."

OVERALL OPINION

This makes four months that I have. I do not use it much. Just when I need a fat sound and another time.
I tried it plugged into a pedal Berhinger BSY600 (synth bass) and there is lot of stuff not possible, careful eardrums. (I like to test coupled machines!).
So monotribe, I keep it. I think also acquire Volca series.
I find that make the Korg gear accessible to many scholarship because when we look at the analog side today is more qu'abusé. Because even if it is rare and legendary ask € 8,000 for EMS, this is madness!

The synthesizer section has three waveforms:

A selector allows you to choose among three LED waveforms.
The filter portion is provided with a potentiometer and Cutoff Peak potentiometer.
The small potentimètre VCA adjusts the volume of the synthesizer.
The LFO part is equipped with a potentiometer and a Rate Int potentiometer modulating intervals.

UTILIZATION

The configuration is more affordable and it is precisely this that has motivated my choice. This little synth / sequencer is very intuitive and in minutes the pleasure of playing which I think remains the essence of music is immediate.

I am overwhelmed by the Monotribe.
Small, autonomous when in battery, it has become a key element in my configuration.
The sounds are excellent and fiddling can draw beautiful special effects.
I love to improvise from a simple rhythm.
In creation and demo mode, I record a bass line or arpeggios that run in a loop and I play the guitar top.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a little over a month and I'm not tired.
I have synthesizers, but is currently awaiting a move and thus to find my home studio, I wanted to buy a synthesizer that can fit in a small space.
My philosophy for several years is less is more.J 've spent years killing my eyes to the screens. I sold the computer and bought a four-track cassette recorder.
So following my journey, I highly recommend this wonderful little gem.
The value for money is very good.
Yes I do it again this choice and I am considering buying a second Monotribe.

So much for the technical part as described on the website of Korg followed my opinion on the matter:

Analog synthesis:
The VCO, VCF and VCA are composed of analog circuits. With simple operation and the process of creating sound unique to analog synths, the monotribe allows you to make sound synthesis of highly flexible and intuitive way. Filter (VCF) circuit offers the classic Korg MS-20.
Even though he apparently shared components with the MS-20 is not found on the rough side of the latter, but the sonic possibilities are quite extensive for such a small box, for my part I can even do "talk" is saying.

Keyboard ribbon:
You can change the range of the keyboard ribbon. The keyboard ribbon also allows you to play chromatically as on a conventional keyboard and to play melodies with accurate notes.

Analog beatbox:
The tone generator internal battery to three parts using separate analog circuits, it offers a bass drum, a snare drum and a cymbal.
Unfortunately, this is a big downside of the machine, they are not "editable" without changing internal and especially out on the same channel as the synth separate outputs have been wise. Perfect for the minimum but not much more, however in addition to an old BAR is a treat.

You can control the sequence in real time to create loops with drum and synth part.

Catch Sync In / Out:
This allows chaining and synchronize multiple Monotribes via a mini jack.

Fashion FLOW:
This mode allows you to record and play back the synth without being limited by it. It allows you to create complex rhythms and grooves unique.
The Sequencer is however the big advantage of boiboite, super intuitive, extremely simple, and very surprising in Flux mode.
Some mourn the absence of MDIDI, but the ability to sync with almost any rhythm or old BAR without MIDI is a surprising and ultimately very practical, for my part I use an old Korg coupled KR55 and I have no desire to sync well with my Roland CR-68 and DR-110-BOSS and the icing on the cake, I even leave the signal out of synch to my Monotribe Roland CSQ-100 pilot a Roland SH-09 ...
To summarize, intermediate with old gear, it works simply and efficiently.

LFO multifunctional
With wide setting ranges for the parameters and INTEN RATE-SITY, you can go from subtle changes in the modulation drastically. In addition to its function as a low frequency oscillator, the LFO 1SHOT proposes a method which transforms it into the envelope generator (EG).
Nothing to say about it, the results are stunning for a machine so small price.
Note also the possibility to connect any audio source to use with filter.

UTILIZATION

The Monotribe is very simple to use, one button function, very rare combination to access some features, but nothing complicated, we branch and plays with it all.
The manual is very clear when to him and goes to the point.

SOUNDS

Yes it suits what I do (the Zique a little vintage based synth also vintage).
It works equally well for those who want to run a sequence of arpeggios Tangerine Dream to those who want to see even the minimum Acid house (attention, it is still not a TB ).
It is capable of big bass, acid sounds (for the little one put hands dirty), cosmic enough to FX and even talk (semblances of EH, AH, EUH, UH AOWW ") short, marvel, it quickly becomes totally addict.

OVERALL OPINION

I have a little over a year now, I love its simplicity, its sounds, there is not much at this price point that is also well done and especially also fun.

The Korg Monotribe is a portable unit that is run by a battery, it does have a basic sequencer on the Monotribe (8 step pattern sequencer). There is also a built in speaker on the Korg Monotribe, it is not a very good speaker though. The cost of the Monotribe is very affordable; it cost less than 200 USB.

UTILIZATION

The Monotribe is a lot of fun before anything else; you can create all sorts of sounds with this unit. If you have a good external source for effects then your possibilities with the Monotribe will be endless. Three are 3 oscillators on the Monotribe, you have your Saw, Triangle and Square oscillators. If you have some general knowledge on how sounds are made then you will not have issues getting the sounds you want. But if you are new to working with oscillators then you would be confused and have a hard time at first getting what you want out of the Monotribe. It does come with a manual, but the unit itself is not hard to understand or use. I prefer looking online for tutorial videos; they will be a lot more useful to you.

SOUNDS

The best part about the Monotribe is that it runs off batteries and it has a built in speaker. That means that no matter where you are you can turn it on and start creating sounds right away.

OVERALL OPINION

I was a little upset to find out that the Monotribe doesn’t have any effects on it and of course there is no sampling on the Monotribe, also no MIDI in or MIDI out. So none the less, the Korg Monotribe has become more of a toy for me. It is a lot of fun, but without on board effects and MIDI options it was difficult to fully bring it into my current set up.

nothing more, nothing less. I tinker a midi interface to use the tape with my EMX (uber cool), and midi sync with ableton.

The Korg Monotribe is a tiny, analog synth. It features an 8-step pattern sequencer and a ribbon controller for playing, and a 3-waveform VCO, the classic MS20 VCF, an LFO and a three part drum synth. It can run off of batteries and even has a built in speaker, or you can send it out. The thing is SUPER simple, and a really fun little toy, with the potential for all kinds of fun. I love to toy with this synth, because I can do it without any set up or plugging things in and turning things on. It's really fun to just make little ideas on, and it's a real analog synth which is cool. It's not something I'd recommend unless you have some extra cash around, and need a cool toy.

UTILIZATION

One of the greatest things about these guys is the sheer simplicity. All you have to do is turn it on! There's a built in speaker and it can run on batteries so you can walk around with it or lay in bed with it and just mess around with the sounds. It doesn't have any complicated features, and not too many bells and whistles. Also, if you want to use it in a performance, you can connect an external power supply, and there is a 1/4 inch out jack on the back.

SOUNDS

The sound is like that of many basic synths, but the signature ms-20 style filter really makes it pop! The built in drums are not amazing, but they do work well together which is cool. They gel well. The kick is a little clicky but not to the point where it's problematic or intrusive. The volumes of all three are automatically set, and Korg did a pretty good job of that. The ribbon controller is cool, and responsive, with 3 voice polyphony and it's not too hard to control. I don't really have any complaints, as this is actually a great deal for a real analog synth.

OVERALL OPINION

My favorite things about this synth are the simplicity, and the filter. I take this with me all over the place and love it. I make noises while I'm doing whatever and it's awesome. It's super portable. I also love the filter, having owned an MS20 gives a real appreciation for just how cool this little thing is. The thing is worth the money, if you need a toy. It's also great for working out ideas on the fly. It would be cool if you could hook it up to a midi keyboard, but it's fine how it is. I love this little guy.

UTILIZATION

Configuration very simple if you can read the small table at the end of line 8 of the manual.
Manual minimalist, clear and sufficient.
Editing is easy, direct, no mystery to who has tried to know what are VCO, VCA and Co.

I was a fan of Monotron I MS20/10 and therefore it is natural that I went to buy it.
What I like least is that there was no separate output for drums and synth.
What I like most is that it works on battery, I can summarize the crapper.
This choice I will ever see my second sentence.

You have to see something: it's a fun mini synth with no other claim, anyone looking for something else will be disappointed. This is not a MS10 is not a groove box, ...

It's small, it is compact, simple, with a heavy synth sound in it, it goes no further and that's what I find much in my case. If I want to lead the big brothers are there and to add a little sound in my mix quickly or on a piece is nickel, particularly with the Monotron in the audio jack.

Very good filter on this small ultra portable synth. The sequencer is very convenient and a drum machine more. Really a good product that finds use in the studio.

The rhythmic sounds are modifiable though not well chosen and reminds me of the TR-606 ...
Synthtiseur part is basically the same as the Monotron but without the horrible noise which is decked Monotron!
Obviously it's not just the voice of synthtiseur Monotron found because the Monotribe offers a more basic management envelopes, 3 waveforms, LFO that it is now possible to apply the VCO and the VCF and the possibility to choose between three operating mode for the LFO.
I love the MS20 filter, its grain is inimitable and Monotribe the LFO is really aggressive in possible ... The Monotribe is a brute that delivers sound that I like!

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a few hours. I possdais Monotron the dj and Mopho DSI and I must say that this Monotribe owe me nothing especially since it is relatively easy to reach via the functions of Monotribe few points weld ...

What I like most is the cot Live, Plug & Play Fun and really of the machine even if it is limited remember that even in an orchestra the triangle is important! I do not return to the full specifications that were given in previous opinions. My opinion is certainly a bit dissonant with respect to other users. Obviously, I do not lie in the same practices, I am a guitarist, so that my expectations are certainly not as high.
I bought the monotribe because I wanted a small easy to use and with its decayed too quickly to help me cope and live demos of songs to work with my group. The sound of monotribe being consistent with our sound, I must be super happy with my purchase, especially since I've always loved the sound of the MS-20 (which I do not understand anything ...). Note that I can not work with tools too sophisticated full of hidden menus and functions for which only has one button to turn / click and I can not deal with a mouse in one hand and a guitar in the other. I am completely refractory to multi-effects-recorders-drum-type gas plants Boss BR and others on which you lose your time and energy to manage the myriad of functions and sub-menus, etc ...
Then the synths, MIDI, sync, scheduling BAR in step-by-step ... I forget ... my level is up to Logic Express and even for recording and editing ... in fact, if the interface is more complicated than a 4-track magnetic K7 with a few effects pedals, I'm confused ...

UTILIZATION

For the simple guy that I am in terms of synth, midi, sync CV, programming bar, etc ..., this machine is simply bluffing simplicity. nothing fancy, turn the knobs, switches are activated and the result is immediate. Easy to understand, not too many parameters, few functions "hidden" ... The keyboard ribbon is of course limited, but in my case it's not so bad ... In fact, I find that the limitations of Monotribe make its strength: it can concentrate on the essentials.

SOUNDS

The sound of analog monotribe are perfectly consistent with the color of my musical projects ... love actually, a little tad of breath but less than my Fender Vibrolux output Silverface ... I use it with an array of analog pedals guitar or bass (distortion, fuzz, flanger, delay, phaser) accept very well.

OVERALL OPINION

In support of the composition on the guitar is a great tool (which certainly does not may be appropriate at all because of its very distinctive sound color) that allows me to quickly create demos without me taking the lead with all a set of software and other complex interfaces.
+ + Qq monotribe scratching effects pedals sound card + 4 + tracks Logic Express (for recording, editing, mixing and mastering a minimalist), it gives me a formula that suits me. The monotribe allowed me to move in a world that repelled me as too complicated. Korg thank you for all that.
My opinion really does that on this specific use and I add that I still hesitate to use it live because of its too small and limits the keyboard ribbon (too easy to miss a note).

OVERALL OPINION

I am being tested, so I will write an opinion more relevant when I tested the machine well, but already some info for the impatient:
- I think that is a monotribe "monotron luxury" or a "super monotron" or "what should have been monotron. The overall look is solid (not the cheap plastic of monotron) and connectivity fairly complete. It is quite small and light, so travel easily. Less gadget and more comprehensive than its predecessor, it is essential if you like turn the knobs by hand.
- We find all that was missing from the monotron (the sequencer, and other specificities of filters, oscillators, waveforms etc ...)
- Manual in French
- Use simple
- I expect the pair to a Kaossilator, (and monotron) and test it with an electric guitar ... I think these small devices easily transportable for creating electronic music or sound effects or fair and mix on a laptop without having to carry a bag for her big huge synth, or just be an interesting addition to set dj. For the price, it is essential in a home studio ...
