I am primarily a Jazz/Fusion lover but play many local venues, casinos etc. performing and recording a wide variety of music. Currently I gig with a funk/blues band and a swing quartet. I have been playing for 30+ years.

This kit was actually given to me as a gift from friends when my previous kit was destroyed in a auto mishap. Nice gift! I have great friends. I can only guess what it cost new, without hardware, maybe $800?

Right out of the box, I didn't like the heads much. I used some Remo pinstripes and noticed a great improvement. The finish (deep blue) left a bit to be desired and was difficult to keep pristine and free from scratches. That problem was not much of an issue, really. I used this kit for years with much success. I love the deep end bass drum and the tom resonance was perfect for fusion when I tuned them a bit loose. I was most impressed with the way they record. Never had to dampen much of anything. Every track has been a success!
Overall, a great little kit for the money.

The kit needed new heads right away. The factory heads hardly lasted two gigs. The finish scratches easily revealing bare wood underneath. Not the most attractive finish.

I am very pleased with the hardware, its strength, durability and ease of use.

I have played many different kits in my career. I keep going back to Yamaha. This kit sounds much better than it looks. It is a great value for the low-end price.

I have had an electronic drumkit for a while, but I needed an acoustic one for gigs, so I began my search. I only had around $1000 Canadian to spend, to I was basically looking at the Tama Rockstar, the Pearl Export, and the Yamaha Stage Custom. I got it at Long & McQuaide for $1050 Canadian. I chose these drums over the two mentioned above because I heard of Yamaha's sturdy hardware.

The toms sound really good after you change the heads. I really like the matte color my drumkit came in (cranberry red). Also, the ball clamps give you the widest choice of how you want to position your rack toms. The bass drum sounds pretty thundersous now that I gor the Evans EQ4 drumhead on it. The hardware that comes with the drumkit is also pretty sturdy.

The heads this drumkit came with, even though they are made by Remo, suck. It took me two gigs to beat them up completely. I changed the batter heads to Remo Empeorors, which improved their sound tremendously. I just replaced the resonant heads with the Evans G1's and that improved the sound even more. The snare that came with the drumkit is metallic and has a lot of overtones, so I recommend you dampen it a little by adding a ring around the outside.

The hardware is very sturdy, but the matte finish can get scratched up unless you take good care it.

For the price I paid I still feel that I got the best drumkit available. The 17" deep bassdrum beats all the other ones I heard, and the sturdy hardware is also great. Dont be fooled when you see that the drumheads are made by Remo - still replace them as soon as you get the kit, if you want it to sound the best. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Bought this kit at Long+McQuade, Vancouver, BC. Considered some other used kits but wanted a kit for studio jazz ballads, blues, gospel ... The STage custom had a 20x17 bass drum which gave a great tight, round low sound but not too loud. The qulaity of workmanship is amazing, really. I compared to Tama, Peral, even Gretsch. HAnds down this is a great semi-pro kit.

The bass sound is smooth and controllable. I stuffed some sheets in the bass drum to add a littl muffle because these are surprisingly loud kits. The mounting system (YESS) is excellent, very sturdy. The all wood (Birch and tropical hardwood) construction on the toms and bass is equal to much more pricey kits. lots of hardware. The price, without cymbals or throne was USD $680.00. very fair in my view

The heads on the Toms are trash ... very shrill ... I will be replacing them with higher end Remos or evans. Very little to dislike.

Excellent workamanship, much better than i expected. Everything is beautifully finished and the H/W looks so smooth you'd think it was custom made

I'm a guitarist/bassist who plays drums occaisionally. This kit more than accomplishes anything I need to do. However, the kit is also used by the pro drummer in my jazz combo and it works super in that situation too. Overall, really pretty kit, well-made, good sound except for the tom heads and good value for money

I bought this kit for £549 and Sabian Pro sonix scymbals, altogeter costing me a fair £750 from the Newcastle Drum Centre

The first time you open the box and you see this kit looking back at you, you know that you've bought a fantastic drum set. The look of the woodden matte shells is great and even though you might think that they will scartch easily, they dont! The hardware is fantastic, especially the Hi-Hit stand and the YESS mounts. The Birch for the outer layer, and 8-plys of Philippine Mahogany for the inner layers makes it sound like a pro kit!

I just love this kit to bits!

As you would expect from the Yamaha makers this is a well put together kit, the hardware is manufactured in Yamaha's own motorcycle factory and the shells are beautiful and durable..............it's just a fantastic drum kit!!!!!!!!!

The Stage Custom Standard is an affordable set with numerous professional features. From the beautiful matte Birch wood stains and split lugs to the professional hardware, this set is perfect for advanced beginners, semi-pros, and a 'around town' kit for pros. And if you have quite a budget of about £900, and you' feel that this is too 'cheap', well this kit cost £900 just over a year ago anyway! allowing you now to splash out on more symbols or a double bass pedal. This kit rules the £500-£800 price bracket!!!!!!!!! BUY THIS KIT

I was looking for a more professional sound, so i turned to yamaha. I got a wood finish, and payed about 900 for the 5 piece with the YESS mount system (i think all stage customs have it).

Very nice, hollow, and loud sound. The bass is compared to the deepness and loudness of a Tama, the steel snare is very nice, with very nice rimshots, and the toms have a very nice pitch.



Not much. The standard heads are U2's, and it is highly recommended something else. Right when i bought the set, i got some ebony heads, and the set sounds awesome.

I thought the set would dent, and scratch easier because of the wood finish, but it didnt. Its just like and other Laquer finish.

An affordable, professional, great sounding set. I love it.

I bought this drumkit about 6 months ago, a friend used to spend a DSIR DW (wise choice) ^ ^.
Before I play a century, I can tell you that this compartment dernire is really a plane, I like its appearance Aesthetics (mine is the same picture), my setup is 16 13 December 14 .. it is perfect for rock, funk too ... the problem of the drumkit or its advantage is that it has no particular style, and according to rglages using skins you get a good rsultat .. it lacks personality but can be of a good drummer should trs Middle is a solid drumkit (no cymbal stands "made in china "that breaks after 2 months: yamaha production please) ..
I made a deal with the drumkit because I bought 690 euro 5 snare drums with a pearl "signature chad smith," a strong feet and two feet hihat cymbals .. Yamaha is a solid ( j'inciste) ..
I do not regret my choice .. it allows me to progress ... may be in a few years I will change to a sound.
