    affordable

dbx DDPPublished on 01/10/12 at 15:06
If you need an affordable compressor with 4 channels, Then you've come to the right place. DPX DDP can take 1/4" or XLR inputs and outputs and can switch from -10 to +4.

    UTILIZATION

The DDP has the standard settings found on a compressor: set the input, the ratio, output, and limiter and whether each channel is going to compress, gate, or expand. There are two settings for the speed of the dynamics processing, which can not be manually set, as well a setting for limiting interference from the bass frequencies in triggering the processing. There is also an "exciter" setting for each channel. Each channel can be used independently, or channels 2 and 4 can be daisy-chained with the pr…

    SOUND QUALITY

The sound quality is OK, provided you don't push the compressors too hard. Once you start to dial in pretty harsh ratios, things can get a little funky and jumpy due to the lack of being unable to manually dial in a speed for the processing. That being said, so long as you aren't trying to overcompress, things will usually turn out OK, as the unit is relatively quiet and does a decent job -- just don't expect it to work miracles and you'll be satisfied. It's not really a transparent compressor.

    OVERALL OPINION

It's good for the money, but because it's made by DBX don't expect it to hold up forever. I have two of these units in my studio, but they'll be replaced with far superior (and far more expensive) dbx compressors soon. Because these aren't very transparent, and during tracking it's easy to miss some of the small details, I would avoid using this compressor while recording and save it only for mix-down. You don't want to get caught up in a situation where this compressor did too much, or dialed in too late, and screwed up your recording.

    Not bad!

(This content has been automatically translated from French)
Dual compressor / limiter / gate / d-ssor numrique linkable. Entirely possibility of working in a numrique catre optional.

In short, a little tour here (http://www.dbxpro.com/Classic_downloads.php?product=DDP) for further information and instructions for the curious.

The notice prcdant as much full, I stop me for the description.

Just ... eq parameter does not work on the stamp, but on the spectrum frquentiel that will handle the RFP !!!).

So we can not as a power equalizer with eq of a console, but you can choose Frequencies to be accentuated or not during compression.

It is, however, not a multiband compressor. Manuel

    UTILIZATION

quite clear and very full. In addition in French!

Quite a few factory presets, convenient to find a rglage adapted an instrument or effect ... APRS being crafted. It can be used as an insert on a track, or on a bus on the main outputs. At ease everywhere.

The edition is quite comfortable, unfortunately we go through menus and submenus ... Gnant not to register its presets (xmmoires users), less good for rgler quickly. +

    SOUND QUALITY

    Complete.
    + Gate / compressor effective.
    + No color, no breath.
+ Good converters na / year.
    + Transparent.

    - The sound produced may be a little mtallique (beware rglages)
    - Limiter strange. Rgler difficult in peak limiter to contrl levels in a digital creation area.
    - The compressor tends to eat high Frequencies low compression (but it is the disease of all compressors means ranges), so sometimes limit the amount of compression or play eq (bof!)
    - Transparent.

It is used on BD and SN, sometimes on the bass. By limiting the outlet, a compressor / gate to the mix. In this configuration it is doing its job. Between

    OVERALL OPINION

150/200, secondhand, it remains a very good deal. I bought 140 there over a year.

I think it is fairly comprehensive and effective in the live (recordable presets), a little Lger for the (home) studio. AD / DA converters transparent, at least I do not expect diffrence (see my channel audio).
I can not compare it with other compressors hardware (except for a small Behringer, but hey no point dwelling on the comparison). Compared to plugs Wave (rebirths) we are in the same range, efficiency and sound rendering issue.

Briefly assess your environment against (live in studio), your hardware and your desires / needs.

If you are looking for a compressor / gate effective, comprehensive, transparent and low cost, eyeing the RFP, especially if the price is within the range Describes above.

If you are looking for a compressor with character, go your way. Ditto for the compressive crative.

I currently eyeing on a dbx160, and a compressor lamp (TLA series genre classic). I do not regret my purchase, however, and if j'upgrade my studio, I will use it to spoil the toms on a drum bus, or compress clear guitars, for example ...
