Fender American Jazz Bass Fretless [2000-2003]

This is a U.S. 2000, 20 brands of frets on the neck, the markers are on the edge (strangely marking frets 3-5-7-9-12-15-17-19e position). For everything else it corresponds perfectly to the characteristics of a Jazz Bass American Series prior to 2003.

UTILIZATION

For playing comfort, the handle of jazz bass a little narrower at nut than Precision makes the bass very enjoyable to play. Access to acute is not unique to that used on Fender bass, say that no specific development for access to acute has been made contrary to the Deluxe models. This bass is heavy enough (although I recently tasted the accuracy of which weighed 77 weight really ...).
With the combination of the two jazz pickups is rapidly obtained a wide range of sound, from very serious mellow 60's funk to the very acute. Note that in substance the tone knob is very progressive and a real use (other than to mute the sound to lose the momentum).
As this is an original fretless I have two comments:

1. The rosewood fingerboard is too soft to string round net, a varnish was not too much or an ebony hard as well on the model Tony Franklin.
2. the nut was designed to shrink an instrument to evidence. I do not know if it's a problem specific to my jazz bass but according to the inclination of the neck, the strings tend to draw a furrow in the small part of the key between the nut and the head of the bass ...

SOUNDS

I installed net ropes course for a more dull (and also to preserve the rosewood from premature wear) and I am happy to have kept a good momentum.

It is of course a passive low so some of the dynamics of the game comes from the bass player but I do not regret it renders perfectly the nuances fingers and also sounds good with a pick.

I'm not really looking for the sound of Pastorius (although it's a bass player I like a lot), I particularly like the sound of bass, very low 60's to McCartney and his medium of bassists rock, and there is at the high school visit.

OVERALL OPINION

This is my first fretless chronologically but also my second Jazz Bass (Mexican first sounded OK but lacked the nuance and perhaps also of the 60's in the Gainsbourg Melody Nelson). I do not regret my purchase, however, is not looking for the sound of Pastorius specifically I think it is not the ideal model for me. If I had to change things, I would opt for an ebony fingerboard without frets brand (such as models of the 70s) and also incorporating a piezo bridge (like the deluxe model Power Mexican) for the nearest bass. So if I had a budget custom shop I would do not have that choice, but given the value for money I do not regret my purchase.
