This bass is a reissue of the EB-3 that Gibson put out in the late 60s. I don't know why they decided to change the model name, but it does make sense to call it an SG bass, since the body shape is the same as the SG guitar, and that's what everyone called the bass anyways. The fit and finish of this instrument are great, and it plays very well. The strings get this fun sponginess that most basses don't get - I like to play this in a guitar stack with loads of distortion, and play sludgey doom riffs with it, because it just reminds me of a great big baritone guitar, not really a bass.

The pickups are quite interesting. A mini humbucker in the bridge, and a big giant neck humbucker - this is an odd combo, indeed. The bridge gets a bright, almost Les Paul-like cut. And the neck pickup is woofy and muddy as all get-out, but in a really fun way! This is a doom band, stoner rock bass dream. It almost begs for fuzz. It does a great Cream tone as well, or Grand Funk Railroad.

The pickup combination of this bass combined with the short scale make this a very fun bass to riff out on. This bass wants to be played like a guitar - with a pick, with a fuzz box, through a loud amp. It can certainly do other things very well, but it is such a hoot to just imagine it as a bigger guitar. This is areal winning axe!

Gibson SG Standard Bass
In what country was she made? (USA, Japan, Mexico, France ...)
Made in USA.

How many frets, what kind of microphone and their configuration?
Neck pickup: humbucker type vintage TB More
Pickup: Mini humbucker bass
Settings: 2 volumes, 1 tone
Mechanical Shamrock
Chrome hardware
Finish: Cherry

What type of bridge (Floyd, Wilkinson ...)?
A bridge to the con, height adjustable.

What are the settings (volume, tone, micro switch ...)?
3 knobs: Double Micro, simple microphone and tone.

What type of race?
Mahogany body
INLAYS crown

The handle is it enjoyable?
Very nice.

Access to acute (recent freight) is it easy?
No worries.

Ergonomics is it good (in terms of shape, weight ...)?
Good ergonomics. A little heavy and unbalanced side handle.

Gets it easy to sound good?
If you put him right strings, if the rule correctly and that the branch on a good amp is known both set a priori no worries.

Are they suitable for your style of music?
Perfectly. I play rock, punk, stoner, noise ... it changes the endless Fender or Musicman.

With what (s) amplifier (s) or effect (s) do you play?
With an Ampeg SVT-350H connected to a SVT 810AV. I only use the neck pickup Humbucker. I have a tube distortion and it sounds very fat. I use a 50-110 shooting but maybe I'll take an even bigger.

What kind of sound you get and with what settings ("crystalline", "bold", ....)?
The clean sound has its own character, that of a humbucker body, a little fat and mini humbucker, that the bridge is slamming, it's because one is double and the other simply added to their positioning accentuates this report. I try not to put them together because the sound becomes a bit too rich and dispersed.

What are the sounds you prefer, you hate?

How long have you use it?
Since 2008.

What is the particular feature you like best and least?
Most: his look, do not hide the fact that a guitar is because the class is purchased! Fun to play with an interesting character! Bourine and it is not moving! almost, you really pull the strings to have to re-tune to the next song.
Cons: The accuracy of the handle a bit limited. Some cases, such as F # on the E string, are too high and it requires to grant depending on the tone of each piece. When I take you to see a luthier, I ask him what he can do about it.

Have you tried many other models before buying it?
I have a Rickenbacker 4001, it still sounds different.

How would you rate the quality / price?
Pretty good, it is found around 1000 € and this is the class to play with it!

With experience, you do again this choice?
Of course!

multiplate's review (This content has been automatically translated from French)" if compatible with your style of music so dark!"

Gibson SG Standard Bass
short scale, 20 frets, 2 pickups, mounting to the jazz bass, good finish, Balanced

the handle is perfect (to my taste), it is thick, thin, precise, easy rapide.ergonomie SG so acute. it does not carry much weight.

I play rock has the old (typed motorhead, ac dc, led zep ...) and it corresponds to what I can expect from the sound of a bass in this style. I mainly use the bridge pickup which is incisive without being garish! of experience I would say that this bass can do more than rock, jazz a little pissed at funck dirty.
I played with a preamp (ebs and a drive over t rex, sometimes with a wah. Me love his growl with a little crunch.

it's a good bass, with a very distinct character, which changes the traditional fender. I played bass with another type j bass and Co., that I could easily return to these models in large part because of race. that of the SG bass is a revelation to see an evidence for my hands ..
