Ibanez GSR 200
Published on 06/29/03 at 15:00i got this at electrohill in palmers green, London for £170
it sounds great for the price, looks great and, is really well built. The p and j pcikup combination allows you to use a wide variation of tone,. I mainly play heavy metal , which it can sound gr8 for and can also be used well for things like funk. I got in in black, i've seen it in blue as well and it also looks gr8
the only problem is that it smudges but its not something hard to solve
very well built
gr8 begginer bass, much better than the squire equivalent, if u r a begginner or a medium player on a budget this is for you

Published on 06/24/03 at 15:00I bought gsr 200 today in Bangor North Wales, I forget the name of the shop. I was looking for a second hand bass, maybe a squier kinda thing. The assistant mentioned that he had 20% off new guitars, namley the ibanez "gio" as its now called. It was going for £165.......sounded like a bargain!
Ive been a fan of PJ bass for ages, I liked immediatley the quality of the finish, and soundness of the construction. Theres a heck of alot more to this bass, if your thinking about buying a squier precision, DEFINATLEY give the GSR 200 some thought!!

This bass has good sound, even on a regular guitar amp. The pickups are good and powerful and i like the individual volume knobs for each pickup. I also like the thin neck of this bass.
There is a little buzzing on the bass, but this could be due to the fact that im using it on a regular guitar amp.

Published on 03/18/03 at 15:00Before I started playing bass, I was looking at a couple of basses which I heard were supposed to be good starter basses . . . the ESP B-104 or the one I got, the IBANEZ GSR200. I decided against the B-104 as I heard it had a few manufacturing faults, and bought my GSR 200 at a Musicstop store for $350 Canadian.
The GSR 200 feels just right when I play it. It isn't too heavy either, real easy to sit with or stand with and jam away. The Jewel Blue finish of my bass shines and sparkles. I thought the jewel blue finish looked nicer than the red or black finishes, but that might be just me. The neck is also easy to navigate, and feels real smooth when playing.

The electronics in my GSR200 bass are kinda crap . . . I never had them changed, but I should/should have. The crap factory strings that come with the GSR200 should be changed RIGHT AWAY . . . I didn't like them at all.
The quality of construction is excellent . . . every bolt is tight, the bass is held together real good. I never dropped her before, but she has been bumped a tad, and it's still in excellent shape. It's built very solidly, but on my GSR200, the plate that covers the electronics on the back is not on right, somehow or another. It sticks up on one side, even when the screws are tightened. That might just be my bass though . . . maybe no other ones are like it.
This bass is an excellent beginner bass. I learned to play on it until I got a new bass. Besides the crap strings and electronics (which can be replaced), she's perfect for those learning to play and she might even do for an intermediate player's bass. I wish I had gotten the 5-string model, the GSR205, but there's not much wrong with the GSR200!

Published on 02/01/03 at 15:00I bought this at Guitar Center for $200, because I read reviews about it online and it sounded like a good, affordable unit.
The price was right. Having both a P and a J pickup make it versatile. It's solidly built and looks great!
So far I don't have any dislikes, it isn't the top of the line, but you get a lot for the price.
It is a solid alder body with bolt-on neck. It is very resilient and can take a couple drops without any problems.
I like this bass. I would suggest it to any beginner, or someone who needs a solid reliable backup instrument.

This is a very lightweight and durable bass. Tone is pretty good. This baby is a slap machine.
The only beef I have about it is the pickup hum. Other than that, good beginner bass (or intermediate if better pickups are put in.)
Nice Neck. Decent Fret work. Jewel blue finish looks ok.
Blows away the Squier basses. Kickin for the $$$$.

Published on 01/24/03 at 15:00I acquired my GSR200 at Musician's Workshop in Asheville, NC. I got the GSR200 because I had tried the GSR190 in the beginners "Jumpstart Kit" and was very impressed. The GSR200 has completely enclosed tuning keys, so I got it over the 190. The price I paid was $229, well worth it for what you get. This is a fine instrument.
I used to play rock 'n roll for a living. I did that for about 11 years and in the course of my music career I owned two American made Fender Precisions, a Gibson bass, a Rickenbacker and a Music Man bass. Those basses cost me $500-$800 each in the 60's and 70's and I like my GSR200 better. Those basses cost me $500-$800 each in the 60's and 70's and I like my GSR200 better. It is lighter than the Precision and the Music Man, and has a faster neck than the Precision or Music Man. I think it sounds as good as both and much better than the Rickenbacker. And it is ten times the bass the Gibson was.
I had some fret buzz problems when I first got it, but having set up a lot of basses and guitars when I was a working musician, I was not too concerned. The angle of the neck, respective to the body, was not exactly right. Now, this is something you see in very expensive basses too, and some even have built-in tilt adjustments. But for having only paid $229 dollars, I did not mind taking the neck off and putting a shim under it. It plays great now and I have no significant buzz.
I am an extremely picky person (no pun intended). Having worked professionally as a musician, I wanted a good instrument (even though I am only playing for my own enjoyment now). I can assure you, this instrument is very well put together. I would use it on stage with no reservations, and would not feel I had to have a backup bass.
While this axe does not have active electronics, the tones produced by the two pickups, Precision-style pickup up front and Jass-style pickup in back, are excellent. The intonation is near-perfect too, thanks to a great bridge. I can play a note on the 19th fret and the next fatter string (two octaves) without the slightest heterodyne. All-in-all, I am totally amazed at the quality Ibanez offers in this instrument for such a low price. Oh, and the harmonics on this axe are great.

Well, i just got this bass. Me and a friend were going to guitar center and we were going to mess around with some expensive basses. well, that got boring, so i picked up a cheap bass with a p/j configuration (something i was lookin for). i plugged it straight into a crate bfx 100-t, and it sounded soo good. it sounded like an active bass, which i want, but can't afford. another good thing is that the tone control has a huge range. Mine is red, and it has a cool see-thru finish that i love. i also like it because it has a straight bolt on neck with no neckplate. it is also very light and has great action and a nice thin neck.

well, theres a little fret buzz, that seems about it.
It seems very well built. everything seems solid.
I think this is an awesome bass. I'm in a band, and already have a Fender Mexican P-bass which is okay, but i just wanted something with a P/J configuration and a little more versatility and definately a thinner neck. The Ibanez was great.

Published on 09/01/02 at 15:00This was my first bass, and therefore I knew nothing about basses when I bought it. I got it about 4 years ago at guitar center for $230. There is a lot of string buzzing, which is really annoying. (I'm not talking about buzzing from low action, just buzzing no matter how high the strings are...I think the frets are uneven or something). Also, when I slap I get a very strange sound on the E string as it bends and hits the bottom of the fretboard (it's a little hard to describe, but very annoying). Also, I hate exposed pole pieces because every once in a while you get a weird clicking sound when the strings hit the pickups...I really hate that. I've tried covering them up myself, but it looks really tacky, so I've just given up on this bass.
The plastic nut is fraying which is really bad. Soon I'll replace it with a graphite nut or something. The fingerboard is getting worn, but that's just from excessive playing. As I mentioned before, I think the frets are uneven. The rest of the bass is fairly solid and pretty hard to scratch up.
I'm sorry I bought this bass. I wish I had bought a Squire P or J bass (or a combination). Actually what I would really recommend is a DeArmond Pilot Bass for about the same price. I really like the feel and construction of those basses. Now that I have a 5-string EDB 605 I almost never use this bass except for when I feel like playing a 4 string.
