    Zoom 505

    Zoom 505 GuitarPublished on 06/26/01 at 15:00
This unit was purchased for $69.00 at the local Sam Ash Music Superstore.

As a "rookie" guitarist I was getting bored with the 2 options I had on my barebones amp; clean and overdrive. So I wanted something with a few more options. Also, since I play simply as a hobby I wanted to get as much of a system as I could with my hard earned bucks. So, this certainly filled the void. More effects than I'll ever use. I find myself playing on the same effect most of the time, but now as I've been playing more and more styles I find myself using more settings. The batteries drain rather quickly so I would advise getting an AC adaptor. Also, the unit is sturdy and can take quite a bit of stomping.…

Also, the unit is sturdy and can take quite a bit of stomping. I've also purchased the expression pedal which provides a decent wah sound in addition to a pitch shift and volume swell. It does have a wide range of cool sounds. My 5 year old likes to keep stomping the pedals until he hears something cool. The chorus and delay effects sound really good. The detailed instructions provide a good description of what each patch sounds like and I always keep it handy to reference.

The instructions that come with the 505 are very detailed and will walk you through the process of editing and creating your own patches. If you follow the directions it can be done. However, the details and such make the instructions look like the schematic of the A-bomb. Also, I don't really care for the chromatic tuner function. Could be just a preference, but I think the Korg tuner I use comes closer in the tuning category.

The unit is "rock star basic black" and as mentioned previously is pretty sturdy and can take both my repeated stomps and my overzealous 5 years old's as well.

To sum it up: big bang for very little bucks. If you just like to goof around in your basement and annoy your wife with your guitar; this Zoom's for you. It will provide a variety of sounds so you can sound like everything Eric Clapton to Stevie Ray Vaughan to Joe Satriani; provided you can play like them!

Small pedals very simple and actually quite complte guitar (amp simulator, equal, compress, reverb, autowah, delay, phaser). A jack in between, one output: no frills.

    UTILIZATION

The config is very simple (too simple?), The manual says it all to know to get away

    SOUND QUALITY

L is the rub: Zoom in sound. Hyper synthetic, cold, not trsraliste simulation. The low end.

    OVERALL OPINION

I've had five years. It can live in situations dpanner cons for recording, we forget. That said it's cheap.

    Does everything said. Caractristiquesd attractive.

    UTILIZATION

Configuration very easy, I think, with the habit. One can get his patch in ten seconds.
The manual, long time ago that I lost it! But since the time I did not forget the operation of the pedals.

    SOUND QUALITY

    Oh, yeah ...
Intrt sounds without the pedals is primarily a toy for discovering what a chorus, a flanger ... but certainly not to use live or studio!

Relative prices rather bad quality, I'd pay 100 euros (the era we talked francs). Today, there are ten times better for less.
With exprience, I will not repeat this choice, this is unusable PDAL Fawn srieuse.

what I like is the cot PROF this product. He taught me everything about DIFFERENT effects that are no longer the current multi-effects.
I compared it with several multi-effects, and I can tell you that dj is the least expensive, and because of its possibility is by far the most INTERESTED trs for an amateur in effect.

I IT CAN BE USED for 3 years and I must say that this is an amateur multi-effects, given the quality of distortion.
it is not editable on a PC.
against it by giving a good sound for clean sounds but no power for a sene.

    UTILIZATION

The general configuration is very simple, very easy to edit an effect and its manual is easy to read, even if I have the English version.

    SOUND QUALITY

Very zero effect! it's just to give an ide of what a delay, chorus ...
    very bad for the distortions.

    OVERALL OPINION

    I take a Boss GT-8 for 430 euro.

I have over 10 years. Last year, I have purchased them three at an average price of 35 euros each, to a paste in an old organ Viscount recarross CL-1 (miam-miam!), and will integrate the other two Systm of my monophonic synths.
I prfre: the ease and rapidity of programming.
I dtest: bin is built like a shit, the lack of tench Casing and contacts get dirty quickly trs.
The report qualitprix for the "against type" which I speak is fabulously attractive!
I ALREADY again this choice several times!

    Few effects available.

    UTILIZATION

    Easy and simple.

    SOUND QUALITY

    this slime is disgusting.

The price of 47 euros is largely overestimated, at this price, choose a ZOOM 3000 or 3000 with a sound much better and far superior opportunities.

Heavy distortion (distortion, fuzz, overdrive, etc.). Deguelle really.

Everybody knows them. 1 input + 1 output jack for connecting a compartment for 9V battery or AC adapter connector, a stereo headphone jack.

    UTILIZATION

Super simple. Possibility of operation at the foot landscaping job (run on one bank or scroll form). Bypass if you press the two together and tuner. No adjustments intuitive since no knobs! Very solid, easy to plug and playable right away from the second use.

Very quality zero ... But we may well laugh with some effects very cheap! The distos and amp simulations are pathetic. The rest can help troubleshoot and be musically before moving to the heavier equipment.

The connection is jack in, jack out, in control (expression pedals (a footswitch is the case)).

As given to me I could not have the manual so I'm all over the internet looking for in French, no problem.
The manual is adequate but requires a little practice.

The effects are not what is best but it's not even a bad one has had the first multi-effects like that.

    OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a month.
This is the first multi-effects I had so I had no knowledge before I give it.

Multi-effects pedal with 42 programmable / editable presets. I believe this is a digital device. The main effects categories this unit has includes compressor/limiter, wah, "drive", Equalizer, noise suppressor, pitch modulation, delay, and reverb. All effects can be used at the same time, which is great. Within the modulation category, you can set the unit for flange, chorus, phaser, tremolo, just to name a few. You can also choose between 4 different amp models as well as an additional 7 types of "drive." Connections are a standard input and output as well as a 9volt connector for power supply. You can also choose between 4 different amp models as well as an additional 7 types of "drive." Connections are a standard input and output as well as a 9volt connector for power supply. The output also doubles as a headphone in, which is cool. Unfortunately, the presets/effects cannot be edited via a Mac/PC editor utility program. This is designed as a floor pedal, so it is not rackable.

    UTILIZATION

The actual face of the pedal is easy to understand and utilize. As far as actually navigating the presets in order to tweak them or modify them, the unit takes some playing around with. This is where the manual, though long, comes in. The manual is very self-explanatory and explains the operation simply and easily. The only reason the manual is so long and why it takes a long time to figure out the extent of this unit's capabilities is because there are so many options/sounds that can be coaxed out of this little unit.

    SOUND QUALITY

For being digital, the effects on this little unit are very solid, and many of them are sufficiently realistic. For example, I feel it does the Fender Twin very well. Use that setting on any amp, close your eyes, and you'd swear there's a Fender Twin right beside you. If you want a Mesa or a Marshall, you can have something darn close to them. There is a Soldano lead setting, and a psychedelic Jimmy Hendrix sound. The standard wah sound is pretty spot on as well. If you want to sound like standard Eddie Van Halen, or if you want his "unchained" flanging sound, this unit can give you both, and is pretty much right on the money. There is a tweed preset with a cool tremolo effect that sounds great for country, western, or blues. If I had to name some cons, the acoustic modeler is not that great. There are also 2 entire "banks" or sets of 6 presets that are kind of cheesy sounding for the most part. But the great news is that these can be edited, so you have room to create your own unique presets. Overall, I've got so many sounds at my disposal with just this one unit. Much cheaper than buying several pedals, or even worse, several amps. I use this unit only with my Ibanez RG 120, and it is perfect.

    OVERALL OPINION

I have been using this since the beginning of the year. The more I get used to it, there is nothing I really don't like about it. I am actually more of a purist, plugging straight from the guitar to the amp. But this unit just makes me such a "tonal chameleon," I have so many options for changing my sound depending on the song, it's great. The distortion choices alone make me drool every time I think about it. I checked out a similar Korg unit as well as the Behringer V-AMP floor pedal, but this one was available at a great price. As soon as I plugged it in and played a couple of chords/solos at the guitar store, I was already sold. I ended up playing it for another entire hour before I left the store and brought it home, that's how much fun this unit is. This is probably the best $50 I've spent on equipment. I really don't see myself needing any other pedals, unless I upgrade and replace the ones I have currently. So many sounds and options all in one unit. I do not regret the choice I made and if I needed to, I would buy this again.
