Audience: Beginners
I was looking for a sound card allows me to both the audio (voice + acoustic guitar microphones, guitars lctriques, bass) and south (synths, loops) knowing that I will not record more 2 audio tracks both in my home studio.

My config ':
PC Win XP edition Mdion fixed family
200 GB hard drives
512 MB RAM
P4 3.0 Ghz
In short, a fairly reliable BCAN!

I do my composed mainly with Cubase SX VST inst. Sometimes I use acid pro 4 and / or halion.

In short this card had the corresponding CHARACTERISTICS my needs, I was looking for a card that works without latency, with no pre-amps forcment tops but not rotten either!
I hsit between M-Audio and Hoontech. Critics divided on this brand made me privilgier M-Audio.

This is useful to me: the two are XLR input and phantom power supply card possde a pre-amps and on these inputs, what is necessary to (good) use a condenser microphone.

CHARACTERISTICS of the M-audio firewire 410 trs satisfactory taient for me, you just have to settle for 2 analog inputs to 8 outputs! Otherwise the two headphone outputs are convenient.

The knobs seem particulirement cheap, not robust at all. For me, the sound card does not move from its location, I do not lugs around, so no pb in my case.

Oh yes, I do not use inputs numriques but are on this map.

UTILIZATION

Installation without problem but be careful to follow the guide (pdf in French) for beginners. Should not be there and press a clean install. The software included allows you to assign bus output audio, and much paramtrer of panormaiques sr frquences Determines the size of chantillonages and buffer / memory buffer. In fact, once this thing rgl often you touch it more.

in my case:
44.1 kHz and 256 for the asio buffer size.

This is for most contemporary home studios.
The implementation is ultimately simple and fast enough.

GETTING STARTED

Stable drivers, I have no pb. Apparently M-Audio makes rgulires Update on its site. I do not see all (I possde the map for 2 months). Later may be.

I use Cubase SX and mostly everything is stable. I do not discern any latency (APRS have made the rglage adquate in Cubase - nothing complicated. Tration, it should be a few milliseconds, which is imperceptible my ear!

I come read 12 simultanment 15 tracks audio but I have not pushed the bte to the end.
In MIDI, I use the large virtual synths (Atmosphres, Trilogy, Spectrasonics Stylus) and after 3 synths together a bug. These plug-in take normment CPU, I do not know who the ram or the card is involved, but I'm not tonn. To do this, I convert my MIDI tracks to audio ds I ended with a TD VST synths and walk alone. But I should pass the 1024 MB RAM OCCAZ!

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 2 months.
A sound card is a passage between an audio / midi and software like Cubase or another. It does nothing in itself, does not change the sound (except as the quality of pre-amps). It's just a box that works or not, that bug or not, that gnre latency or not.

The M-Audio FW 410, with its XLR inputs, features pre-amp for recording voice Manir satisfactory. I recommend using a pre-amp external (lamps) between the microphone and sound card for those who record vocals or acoustic guitars.

I have not tried other models, but I bcp Enquiries reading reviews of Internet and especially I wondered about my own needs.

Qualitprix report is correct, not exceptional. I AIM be below the threshold of 450 eur ;-(

Finally, the card matches my needs, I would do the same choice without hsiter!
