I bought this card there for many years, in 2007 I think. At the student time, my choice was motivated by price and brand. Having 4 analog outputs also allowed me to make quadraphonic. I had a Mac Titanium and several instruments (guitars, bass, synth mainly ...)

UTILIZATION

I used Logic and Cubase, and I was starting to look into Live. Level latency was not exceptional but it held the road for the live, on condition of not overloading the number of tracks and plugins. When I bought my Macbook Pro, it was much better. I seem to remember that I could rotate with 5 or 6 tracks on live with a handful of plugins, but it seems to me that the latency was between 20 and 40 ms. I installed the software that came with, but I've never used because none of my effects and instruments were recognized (whether vst, the AU or other)

Installation on Mac was easy and it was as simple to configure the card on all software. I never looked at the manual ...

OVERALL OPINION

After few years (around 4 or 5) the outputs of the base (since this model is composed of two separate blocks: the base, which allows you to add inserts and 4 separate outputs and a talk back ... and "satellite", which comes off and allows a more mobile use, with only two input jack / XLR + 48v jack and two outputs, and two headphone outputs), the outputs of the base, therefore, began to drop one after the other. Anyway I had to go on a more sophisticated system with more input / output and better preamp.
I kept the TV, I always use at home to listen to music and for everyday use. However, power and quality level, we must admit that since I bought my card Motu (ultralite mk3), there is no photo I happen to work with now 20 track packed with effects on Live with a sound that is undeniably higher. But this is not the same price!
I have since tested many cards, but you can not really compare the incomparable. This small Mackie was a very good price / quality ratio for a first small map. And the satellite was a good idea (proof is, I would never have repaired this machine if it had been made of a block, and finally, even broken, I can still use the satellite without repairing the base!)
Today I do not have that choice because my equipment and my practice have evolved. I no longer buy hardware means, I expect to have the opportunity to buy the best quality. But I would advise a young musician unfortunate, as the price at which it was sold (I think it is no longer sold? ...). Other more efficient model are however at very competitive prices.

What characteristics have motivated your choice?

I bought this card to replace my config EMU 1212M + Yamaha mixer, because I found the sound that came to squenceur n'tait not quite clean (probably more of the Yam that the 'EMU).
So I wanted a card that has to rev pramps good, I have long hsit on the number of entries, but in the end between two mics for me it's all done enough.

So I use this card to the amp and connect times a bass live in it.

From a perspective Aesthetics and finishing, it's solid, it is far from the somewhat cheap competition (Presonus at the top), the map is relatively large, fortunately There's the Dock Removable carry around (what I would do when I have three sub invest in a laptop).

Little trick me "bothering" some prsentent this card as having 8 inputs, no, it's not the case, we have two entries each prsentent 4 connection options (XLR, Jack instruments, and two lines), then certainly they can be combined, but it still will not leave as two separate signals.
on the other hand compared to the competition, it has an insert on each voice, and it's handy to add small effects hardware.

UTILIZATION

No worries installation or incompatibility in 30 seconds and install it PRTA function.

The frquence of Sampling and size of buffers is rglent in no time thanks to the virtual ultra clear.

The manual is against English, but hey, overall if you scratch a little computer and you have a little experience of such hardware, it is almost useless.

GETTING STARTED

So I use this nice toy with Cubase, and it is a simplicity dconcertante, once all your between Connect, the knobs (trs of good quality) and the various buttons trs disposs well and picked up Manir explicit, it's simple. Select the source (mic, instrument or line), rglez gain, and basta.

The volume knob Big Knob type can be very useful for even the two headphone jacks with volume indpendants, nothing more, and there is no need.

Pramps level, not much to complain, they are transparent, with a beautiful dynamic, breathless, has radically changed me to my table Yam (though not so bad given its price). Only small BMOL, they lack a bit of gain I think.

In terms of latency since I only the audio is imperceptible

Installation on Mac is unnecessary, immediate recognition by the system.
Anglas manual is understandable but still demand effort and time again, rrrr, but is it really useful? The critical points are indicated, read 6 paragraphs at most.

Latency perfect ... racccourci on a XP allows accder directly on the dashboard: two rglages: frequency of chantillonage and buffer: 128 MB to 1024 MB

It runs without a pb and 256 MB already means more lag. I aps essay below for the moment.

OVERALL OPINION

I've had two weeks. It changes me of my old UR80. The preamp is the core, rglage gain perfect, must want to make dirty.
Small BMOL out on the hand, which even at zero sends sound and my speakers a break, it has to come from me.

I bought this contraption for the preamp and the mini routing to work with musicians. For now 9.99 / 10

Motivation: Pramp mackie, number of outputs.

Card Installation and incomplte complicated, let me explain:
First I had to buy a 4-pin-6 pin cable because the supplied adapter does not work ... (I've tested several ADAP)
Then the installation in PC market is on the satellite!
The base does not work, even after updating the firewire port and sp2 ...
I even test on one unit and has made me the same thing.
This does not come from the card because it works on Mac intgralement.

I put 5 because only half works.

edit 10/02/08: APRS little thing wrong two months of use: the same master volume down 0, a bit of his fate still my speakers (trslger). I do not know if this happens with all models. So, if I do not want that kind of sound other than my headphone (the night for example), must j'teigne my speakers.

Driver stable recently.

My problem: after card dcrochait often I install a second hard drive on my PC and after many tests, I understood that he who made the c'tait card unstable (it d connects every 5 sec even after having the restart). J'hsitais with edirol ua 25 and I chose the mackie satellite after having pes the pros and cons depending on the view that I have collected on AudioFanzine and elsewhere.

report quality perfect price (150 euros in return for delivery)

c'tait again if I would do this choice because I like its performance gnrales design but I am the dcu Incompatibility I met with her driver who dcrochait (cf above)

UTILIZATION

Installation is no problem but during the first tests, I realized that we could not hear what simultanment records and what has been registered. Incredible ... The solution, updating the firmware.

When I wanted to make that day, there was a crash in the middle of the installation. Suddenly, the sound card n'tait longer recognized by XP. So I sent my dealer a expdi me a new one. And again, I had the same problem. Apparently, it frquent ... Mackie and allowed to flow. I called the importer in France, which did not offer a solution. So I reimbursed.

I do not understand how this card can have good notes on this site because, unless I am mistaken, without updating the firmware, you can not hear what simultanment records and what t recorded. Designed to have an incredible sound card with a basic firmware as rotten.

Installation is no problem it? Yes nickel, After a few worries coming from one of my machines (HS PCI Firewire card and therefore non-functional), the installation went very simple and without any worries
