George Dennis GD-30 Wah Wah

I got this unit for Christmas, and paid AUD$189, from www.1800instruments.com. I liked the look of the unit online (visit www.george-dennis.cz ) and they were cheaper than a crybaby, which I tried and didnt like.



It runs on an optical sensor, so there are no moving parts, unlike the crybaby which has a pot. On plug in, the unit was quite, also unlike the crybaby which hissed and had an annoying sweep sound. There is a nice big LED to indicate when the unit is on. The footpedal is quite large, large enough for my big clompers anyway, and has a nice solid rubber covering. When you press down to turn the thing on and off, it feels nice and solid and the switch feels like it wont give out over time. It is also a silent / non-click switch.


The sound is very favourable to a crybaby, it was deisgned on the same frewquency range however, as I say, there is no associated noise, even on distortion settings. The real wha sounds are produced in the upper range of the pedal's sweep, and this took a little getting used to but seeing as it is my first wah it didnt take long. The more I use it the more I enjoy having it as part of my rig. Clean and dirty, it really lets me add some different tones to my sound. Both lead and rhythm work well with this unit.




The adaptor plug is not the standard one they use for a Boss pedal, and it is wired opposite to the boss power supply. this si not a real problem as I replaced the end of the power lead with a suitable connector and reversed the polarity of the wiring. Worked fine. Also, the input / output jacks are not marked on top of the unit, you have to look underneath it to remember which one is which.



Construction and quality are impressive. All steel, solid feeling and heavy. The pedal has a smooth action, and as I said before, the rubber part is solid and firm feeling.



I MUCH prefer this unit over the crybaby. I havent tried Vox etc. so I cant comment there. But for the price, I believe it is an excellent wah pedal. It doesnt have the "nasal shriek" of the crybaby, which some people really like. I prefer the smoother sound anyway. If there were halves I'd give it 4.5

A wha is simple, one input, one output, an external power jack (mini jack), if a cell beneath a home, no need to unscrew to change it.
A report that there is no potentiometer, the connection is optical, which greatly reduces the maintenance of the unit and especially avoids crachottements.
The initiation is done by fully pressing the pedal, which ocasionne an early start or stop an unintended effect, matter of habit, but I prefer a switch to start the next the pedal.
The construction is very well done, it should last over time.

UTILIZATION

Configuration easier, since there is no adjustment.
It does not color the sound off, which is quite rare and on wha.
The stroke of the pedal is soft and remains in the desired position.
Note 8 to the switch too sensitive end of the race.

SOUND QUALITY

No breath, no crichh or cratchh.
For cons, I think she is restrained in the treble, the past can not hear wha Ceratina ahauteur of a note played. Too bad because in the medium the sound is excellent. Wrong number?

OVERALL OPINION

Pedal quality, unknown brand in France, against her is very highly rated in the States, mine must have a problem is not possible ... I will go home or Fulltone Rmc.

Pedlae wah wah, so no optical link rglages connections are not working and even standard inquiry: inpout outpout, a minijack for a 9V power supply and a battery slot on the underside of the pedal.

I put 9 because of the taking of power supply ... either you have to buy an adapter socket 5 for a boss like that and thus be able to feed through the garland of the pedals, or there should be a second transformer and I do not like ... But none of mchant.

The metal case is robust, the top of the pedal (or foot we play) is provided with a slip, the pedal does not move from its position when removing the foot ... short good finishes and impeccable quality.

UTILIZATION

Could not be more simple, there is no rglages as optical link, the switch-button is located under the pedal, to activate it must be pressed strongly, the button engages the LED 's lighter and direct it to the section on sound quality to which we must move

SOUND QUALITY

The pedal is true bypass, does not color the sound when it is off.
Unlike the other notice I have no problems breaking sound when I pedal j'enclenche ... can be practical, some friends have also used and we never had to worry that the cot ...

The rendering is excellent, the race is progressive and well waaaaahhh balance, efficient, trs present in the medium and the relatively sharp acute.

Ideal for the funk and saturation is that of happiness.

OVERALL OPINION

I have been using ... uh ... 10 years now.
It is like new (I am careful in absolute terms but not everything is very solid !!!).
I tried before but not since then other prestigious wah: vox and of course its competitor: the crybaby.
They are also excellent, but I was not bluffing enough to make me change. Each has its particularity and its default also ... mine seems to be the least capricious and stronger over time: no tinkering for a bypass to be expected, no switch has changed ... and the sound is then nickel ... I stayed on stage and it has ben brings a touch of originality to not be the same as everyone else when the report is as good.

Too bad it is no longer marketed in France ...

UTILIZATION

User level, there's no more simple I think. It was connected, it supports diverse course forward for the permanently active and forward music.

SOUND QUALITY

This is a pedal-Wha Wha, Wha-Wha it is.
It is perhaps a little more suited to acute and its clear that distortion.

OVERALL OPINION

I have long since my brother has offered me while I was still in high school.
It is the only model I've ever tried.
If I asked a Wha today I think I turned into something more conventional like a Jim Dunlop 535Q
