Handmade in the workshops of the family Höfner, luthiers for nearly a century and a half, originally specialized in the violin. They have long been concerned with issues of electric guitar (Paul McCartney, among others).
Fund flamed maple, rosewood fingerboard, 22 frets.
With 2 humbuckers, custom made by hand, and directly by Höfner, used separately, and assembled in series in their simultaneous use.
2 knobs volume, microphones, and 2 knobs bass / treble, micro course - the series arrangement allows great variability of composition possibilities of sounds.
A three-position switch microphone, as in logic.
The quality is absolutely stunning violin for a guitar of that price (actually, even for three times the price, it will stay brilliant! - Which certainly will not surprise those who know nothing of the brand Höfner).
UTILIZATION
The handle is very comfortable to play for a jazz guitar ... It is nicer (personal preference) than gibson the same format.
Access to the treble is smooth, and allows true velocity (thank you cutaways) - although, of course, the format of the guitar is not optimum for playing hard rock as loud as double tapping the top of round ...
The ergonomics are excellent, the guitar is extremely well balanced, the knowledge of Höfner!
IMPORTANT: The format of the body, using research luthiers mentioned above, is unprecedented (to my knowledge): the table is pretty much bigger than the gibson 333 (5 or 8 cm in diameter), and the body is much thinner than on the guitars usually in this format (only about 2cm thick in Höfner).
This tends to give it a velvety rare, if not found, even played open.
Note: This specific poses no problem for the strictly required, balance, and the game (sitting or standing). To be honest, I do have noticed that when having to find a flight ...
The variability of the sound of this guitar, and the sensitivity of his pickups, may involve a little time to find your sound - but, as a guitar typed, it sounds right now ...
SOUNDS
I use a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, which I changed all the preamp tubes with NOS and a combination of 12 personal and 12 AX7 AT7 (and I can not tell you how the amp is literally transformed in both the saturated channel, which I considered personally as unusable, as in the clean channel! - hey, that's irrelevant).
Can (must!) If possible use this guitar with a good tube amp - again, do not look at the price of the guitar, it is in-com-pre-hen-sible ...
The sounds are typed Höfner: that is to say that one does in the soup, but in a clear soup, whose notes are very distinct even in rich arrangements. This is the big difference that I saw with Gibson, which are more punchy than Höfner, but on very good Gibson (old ..), the agreements rich and tight sound messy - where Höfner cutting the magic with a rare distinction and a great soup!
We can play a clean sound (jazz and other adventures), we can make cruncher with delight, one can play the blues with no problem - knowing that it sounds infinitely more mellow (though very dis-tinct- cf. above) a good old single-coil strat! Following is a question of taste - I also love the electric blues with this guitar!
Personally, twenty eight years of technical and musical thinking (which have greatly simplified my pedal board), do I use it as follows:
The signal into my amp, then I splits its signal after the preamp, through a BOSS LS2 (simple) to keep one side, a signal without modification, and the other a modified signal only in that I added a chorus, only the midrange or bass guitar.
For the crunch (blues or jazz rock), I add in the loop of a chorus distrotion Mesa Boogie tube again, and pedal ... and I've also replaced the bulbs - if! - So I always mix with the original sound without saturation, which I manage the mesh with a volume pedal and with the intensity of the attack.
All returns in the power amp, and before the decibels and finesse!
NB: To find your sound, please play the knobs on the guitar volume to change the stamp if! (I mean turn the volume on the guitar, and increase that of your amp, you will increase the cream of the guitar ... and, yet, let the fever to the max, and you will increase the distinction of his ... QED, Magic Höfner!) holders are well aware that gibson! But here it seems to really have to be part of the design of microphones (again made to measure in Höfner).
I amplify this in order to maintain, even in saturation, clarity and the natural distinction of Hofner guitars.
Hard rockers and fans of big distos, go your way without regret! Do not search by "slamming" of the stratum, or large saturations, this means! It is not for you! But I really think that even for the pop in his clear, she did more than his office, if you search for something that sounds very clear, if sometimes shallow, some acoustic guitars or electric single ... For the Jazz, blues, and modern overtures to ... anything else, so that a soup is desired, it is really a dream guitar!

OVERALL OPINION
I use it for about a year.
To be honest, I'm already very, very proud owner of a New Chancellor of Höfner (Guitar Jazz Standard ES 175, 4000 euros) - at the time I was looking for a gibson, and was ready to € 10k a guitar (not every day Sunday!).
After much testing, an old friend told me about this luthier guitars Höfner, I've been trying in Germany ... and I split my budget by more than two, for guitar (New Chancellor) I n exchange it with a gibson, even aged well - and I am very familiar with these guitars ... this is ruthless, and it is also a matter of taste ...
Velvety, woody, electrical, and distinction of harmonics - that is, I think, in terms of creed Hofner electric hollow body or body (toutes!): guitarists Charlie Mingus already using these guitars ... A word to the wise. ..
For guitar at hand, I bought it without trying, convinced of the quality of his violin after seeing the chancellor, and its price (very low for a Hofner): I wanted him off the frets, to make a fretless guitar. Telling me that if it would not, well, it's only 430 € for lost ...
I was also prepared to change the pickups, to have really excellent, and began to look ... I turned to the VIRTUAL HOT PAF in Di Marzio, already mounted on other guitars , noticing that they are no longer manufactured (!?).
Nay! The pickups have absolutely no need to be changed, they are not impossible to replace if you are not deaf, and if you appreciate the character (smooth, wood, distinction) of this guitar (except of course .. .)!
And balance sheet, so she finds her place in addition to the new chancellor (in cash), and is so discreet single (size of the fund, and microphones!) And balanced (manufacturing quality substantially equal to the new chancellor, except obviously that the woods are not aged 12 years prior to manufacture and that it is not solid spruce ...), I have kept as is, and I just ordered one second, to subject it to my personal experiments ...
So, really, with experience, I've redone this choice.
COVER NOTE: I have not found a bag for this guitar, which has a shape a bit special - if you buy, make sure you have a case Höfner, offered at a few suppliers (Germans in particular - Musik Schmidt, or Thomann).
