DiMarzio DP205 Steve Morse Model Neck

Steve Morse is the guitar players guitar player. He is well known for his own band the Dixie Dregs and become even more popular when he played for Deep Purple. You have to be a real guitar player if you can take Richie Blackmores place in Deep Purple. He can play just about every style with perfect ability. Since Steve is so diverse in his playing he needs a pickup that can match the diversity in his playing. Dimarzio was the perfect match as a pickup company for him. Dimarzio is a super modern pickup company that makes the preferred pickups for a ton of modern guitar players. Since Steve changes pickups constantly his bridge and neck pickups have to be perfectly matched in tone and output. The sound of this pickup is nice and dark and smooth. It is what you want in a neck pickup. This pickup complements the bridge pickup very well. The pickup has 4 conductor wiring so you can easily split the tones on it. The magnet is ceramic but it is not super strong. It has a lower output and warm sound. The magnets are not super strong with this pickup so the output is pretty low. The eq is pretty flat with a slant towards the mids. The high and and the lows are dialed back a bit to boost up the mids. The pickup is very well rounded it is sound. It has a super smooth sound that can work well with any kind of lead playing. It is similar to the Air Norton or Liquifier in its smoothness. If you are looking for a super smooth neck pickup that is something different this is a good choice. People tend to go to the more obvious choice like the Air Norton or the Liquifier but this pickup can do all that with its own unique tone and feel.

Steve Morse collaborated with DiMarzio to create his own signature pickups way back in the early 80s. The goal was to create a pickup that was balanced but has strong midrange. The pickup features adjustable pole pieces on both coils, four conductor wiring and a ceramic magnet.

The Steve Morse Neck model is a pickup that’s generally overlooked in the DiMarzio line for whatever reason. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s a signature pickup or what, but the amount of people who don’t use it is somewhat alarming considering how nice it sounds. This is quite a bit different from the bridge pickup, actually. It’s much fatter, has a good bit less output and is very smooth sounding. I like to think of this as the first version of the Air Norton in some ways.

The bass and treble on this are pushed back just a touch, while the midrange is kicked up a notch. This allows the pickup to sound smooth, yet clean. The pickup is fairly open thanks in part to its lower output, and the ceramic magnet keeps everything tight. Split coil sounds are wonderful, and it sounds really cool in parallel.

This pickup works in just about any wood you can think of, and it mates with most pickups out there on the market. If you’ve tried the Air Norton before, think of this as its more vintage little brother. The smooth tones are very reminiscent of the Air Norton, and the focused sound is a reminder of how things were back in the 80s. It’s definitely a pickup that more people need to try out. If this pickup were renamed, I think it would be a bigger hit. I’m assuming most people don’t try it either because they don’t know who Steve Morse is, or they’re not fond of using signature pickups.

So I bought it to make a micro bridge Bricol ... APRs have cost a few solos by Steve Morse (mostly on his collaborations with Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater) I really thought that this was a micro grain INTERESTED (which is all the more surprising that it has a magnet raisin bread that is not known to be trs warm base), so a grainbeaucoup less smooth and hi-fi than other DiMarzio pickups in gnral

I've always had a problem with the half bridge pickups I've had ... one's always too sharp, dynamic or excessive output level and often I got very hot, or what steve morse a DC Resistors 21 (it seems that they at Dimarzio considrentle DC rsistancecomme an index brillanceet not an indication of output level can commeon voiravecd'autres brands) anda output level of only 250 ... Making it potentially a micro bridge that could please me

Modified avecavec anda full studs magnet alnico 5 (those with DiMarzio trs are not really warm but they sound big, I like even better when those at Seymour Duncan) was a good balance in frquence (the hollow in the alnico 5 mdiums trs corresponds well with the bump in the mdiums steve morse)

APRS there remains that choose the direction of placement, so I bridge in Mount reversed in direction and gives us a cel sonassez close to a PAF (the diffrence that it will be much darker, the PAF Dimarzioayant gnralement a DC Resistors 8.5, but will not be a problem if like me you never too grandebrillance of AIML PAF classiquesdans treble)

Mount in standard bridge-way, we sound a little thinner but more fluid solos East

DSOL then I did not stick with the original micro essayle since I changed it immediately out of the box (I do not like the magnets raisin bread) that ... either with a magnet alnico 5, 2 or 3 it will sound too dark I fear, unless you put a capacitor of lower value

Originally it contains a magnet cramique somewhat special in the sense that it does not have the usual double thickness of magnets raisin bread, but a thickness as a standard alnico 5 magnet
