Mac and Windows each have their own freebie this week, namely the Juno Ju-X Hosting AU MicroDAW and Wok VVOC-1.
For Mac, the Hosting AU MicroDAW is a 500KB mini-DAW that hosts AudioUnit effect and instrument plug-ins and offers a 4+1 channel mixer with external audio input, a 24-bit recorder and a LazyKey feature for sound generation. The software is designed for beginners who want to discover the computer-based music world, as well as advanced musicians and developers. Note that it is compatible with the free Cycling 74 SoundFlower, so you can use it with other audio apps.

For Windows, Wok, who we did not talk a lot about lately, keeps on developing freewares and offers this week the VVOC-1 vocal formant generator in VST format for Windows. The plug-in allows for creating vocal sounds and choir effects with a vintage electronic touch. You’ll find, along with the attack, release, noise, glide, pitch and LFO controls, a chorus effect, an XY pad for formant select and a secrete feature that, according to Wok, will show all the power of the plug-in.
