UTILIZATION
The Vypyr is loaded with effects and models, but it is easy to just plug in and play. This amp has enough different sounds in it that one could spend hours just experimenting and seeing what tones are in it, but it's not so deep that it's easy to get lost. Getting a good sound isn't an arduous process - with all the different amp models in there, one can scroll through quickly to find the general basic tone one is going for, then tailor the EQ from that and add effects. The small LEDs show what the settings are, so one isn't wondering "where am I?"
SOUNDS
For a small practice amp this size and this price range, the sounds are great. The amp is loud enough to practice with a band, as long as the drummer doesn't hit hard and the others don't have half stacks. The amp models are long on tone, but that doesn't mean they feel just like their original counterparts - it's unreasonable to expect miracles here for this price range. But for the cost, this amp has great sounds. The reverbs and delays are luscious enough, and I particularly like the reverse setting on this amp - it seems easier to get in the old Jimi Hendrix vibe with this amp's reverse than on most pedals I've played.
OVERALL OPINION
Again, for the price, this is a great deal. It allows enough for the beginning or young guitarist to play with without getting bored, and it allows enough flexibility for a more experienced guitarist to get a good practice tone that is close enough to what the main rig sounds like. I'd recommend this Vypyr amp to anyone.

For practice or small jams
Published on 08/13/11 at 22:43The Peavey Vypyr 30 is the second smallest amp in the recent line of Vypyr amps. It is packed chalk FULL of cool features that kids today are ridiculously lucky to have in a $100 amp. It features 11 amp models with 2 channels each, several different effects spread out over 2 different effects blocks, a separate delay and reverb section, and the ability to dial in tones from Fender clean to Diezel or Mesa grind all at the twist of a few knobs. It's a solid state 30 watt amp with an equally small speaker, and two extra 1/8" jacks, one for aux. in, and the other for headphones

UTILIZATION
Fortunately for new users, the interface for the Vypyrs is extremely easy to understand right from the get-go. Peavey has laid everything out like a typical amp/effects setup, with your stomp box effects first, preamp factors(amp sounds) next. Other effects follow that and then adjusting power amp factors (bass, midrange, treble) and then finally a master volume to control exactly how loud your preset is. It's very easy to get to know and once you dial it in it's easy to lose yourself in hours upon hours of fun with this great practice tool.
SOUNDS
This amp is great for many different sounds from clean to high gain. While it lacks the general tube feel of the high dollar amps it's emulating, I really can't expect much better tone out of a $100 practice amp. It covers a wide variety of different tones and sounds great at all them. Some of the high gain sounds a bit compressed for my liking but for a beginner I'm sure it is just cool to have so many flavours of distortion tone available, plus all the cool effects built right in. I really like some of the low to mid gain sounds like the AC30 and Badcat with the gain turned right up as it gives a more natural tube like sound than the higher gain Mesa/Diezel/Krank models do. This is especially true of the smaller 15w and 30w version with their tiny little speakers, but I'd say it's true of the whole series, even the tube ones.
OVERALL OPINION
All in all I think the Peavey Vypyr 30 is a FANTASTIC bargain for the $250 new that they cost. It's really quite mind boggling to think that such a small and inexpensive amp can sound this good with a wide variety of sound emulators. It's definitely my go-to recommendation for a small practice amp as there is simple no better bang for your buck than the Peavey Vypyr series.

Just awesome!
Published on 04/25/11 at 22:41Just an absolutely stellar amplifier! Peavey has really grown on me over the last few years. The have taken a solid core metal tone and have expanding on it to include such things as amp modelers such as this one.
A great thing about this amp is that you can go for the silent mode with headphones or even record out with the same output.
Being able to bank 12 presets is remarkable in an amp modeler. Most amp modelers have just a couple presets to save to. This one allows you to save them and then recall them by toggling the bank buttons.

SOUNDS
One awesome thing about this amp is that ever amp model have a clean and dirty sound to it just by hitting the main button. SO you have have the amp on the Fender clean and then hit the knob again and have it overdriving. So it really makes those 24 amps become another 24 voicings.
I really like this amp with a Gibson Les Paul or another humbucking style guitar. Many of the amp models are classic Peavey high gain amps so it is fitting to go with a heavy rock style guitar and pickup.
OVERALL OPINION
At new these units come in at around $200, which is just an absolute steal in my opinion. This amp is so versatile and full of tone that it makes me think about love Peavey even more. The classic 6505 tone is available in this amp and many other classic Peavey tones.
I would highly recommend this amp to any Peavey fan or someone who is on a budget and needs a solid practice amp or home jamming amp and doesn't want to break the bank. I would love to hear how this things sounds when recording with it?

I'm pretty plug and play, and here I must admit that the settings sessions quickly turned into a nightmare ...
Too many options, too many possible settings, we lost very quickly ... Especially when you are a beginner (which is rather address this amp), and we do not have the necessary references to what comprendres amps / pedals and emulated their characteristics ... typical example, the MOG or squeeze, whose exotic names have been quick to lose a beginner!
Well, after that remains personal, if you like to take your head with the settings and spend time looking for a specific sound, have fun!

SOUNDS
So now, the problem is very simple: lack of dynamics.
The clean sound is good, the distorted sound very good too, but in the middle it's hard.
Crunches are sooooo sooooo soft, it is very hard to play blues / classic rock to AC / DC over the sounds emulated in these categories are not good enough.
This is particularly unfortunate in view of the quality of light and very distorted.
To play blues and rock, it's not good, it would be better to refer you to another amp. To play metal / funk and other sounds clear, it is more than enough to get started!
OVERALL OPINION
I had this amp long enough before acquiring a vox lil night train lights.
Already level settings, it is not complex, but it can take hours before arriving to settle for the sound you want. There are so many options (can take up to four effects simultaneously if there are delay and reverb, EQ, gain ... etc) that is lost very quickly.
If we summarize, here is my review with positive / negative points:
positive:
- Price
- Clean sounds are tops! Seriously, the first simulation is really good, you can really enjoy clear, with a good reverb is a treat.
- Large distortions are also very good, hard rock / metal go very well on this amp
negative:
- The major problem is the lack of dynamics, including crunch, very common on the amp modeling, and this one is no exception. I was very disappointed with that side of the amp, impossible to have a crunch AC / DC / classic rock blues /. The pedals will not change anything, the sound is soft and difficult to use for this kind of music.
I have trouble putting it badly because if you want an amp for metal / clear, with lots of settings and options, at this price is just unbeatable
