PreSonus EQ 3 B

The Presonus EQ 3 B is a three band parametric equalizer in the form of a boxed piece of outboard gear.  The unit has both XLR and 1/4" inputs and outputs and I had it powered with the power supply that came with it.  It isn't rack mountable as it is about half the size of a traditional rackable piece of gear.

UTILIZATION

If you know how to use a simple parametric EQ, you know how to use the Presonus EQ 3 B.  Each of the three bands each have the standard parameters of frequency, gain, and Q (bandwidth).  There are also buttons for both bypass and a high pass filter at 80 Hz.  That is all there is to the unit, so as you can see everything is pretty straight forward.  Since it is so easy to use, I don't think that a manual is necessary.


SOUND QUALITY

The Presonus EQ 3 B will definitely get the job done as far as sound quality is concerned in home studios, but probably isn't up to par for professional engineers and studio owners to be using.  It does have a pretty clean sound, but when compared to top tier pieces of equipment, this really can't touch them.  However, if you're looking for a cheap option in terms of EQ in the form of outboard gear, the EQ 3B will get the job done more times than not.  It is pretty versatile and can be used on just about anything.  While it would never be my first choice for outboard EQ as I generally use the console's EQ, this is a cheap way for home studio owner to get outside of the box EQ.


OVERALL OPINION

The price of the Presonus EQ 3 B is the best feature, as it makes it the perfect option for the smaller studio owner looking to get their feet wet with outboard EQ, or simply to get a more realistic sounding EQ than what their plug-ins are offering them.  Like I said, this wouldn't be my first choice for outboard EQ, but in terms of models in this price range, this is one of the best on the market.  The Presonus EQ 3 B definitely fits in the 'bang for your buck' category...

UTILIZATION

Setup is super simple, three pots in bands: frequency, volume and bandwitch. For the manual and any little hiccup in English!

SOUND QUALITY

Basically I was Chechi boost the sound of my guitar in repeated and I was advised to use an equalizer! The prob is that virtually tt ns the equalizer that offers graphics are and I really wanted a paragraph for more details! I turned to the DC sound equipment with EQ3B and I'm really not disappointed. Result I took her a makeover, has won more heat and now we lie down!
Ps was used in the effects loop after the preamp!

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a month, I particularly note the warmth, the ease of use and the noise imperceptible!
Excellent price quality ratio, for about 130euros if vs find the hardware or the quality of this vs EQ3B I paid cherries in winter!
Without a doubt I would do this choice!

For technical details, see the manufacturer's website, but basically it is a fully parametric EQ mono analog tape with three choices of frequency, gain + / -12 dB bandwidth pass filter above 80 Hz, true bypass, connection 1 / 4 "TS and balanced XLR. Supplied with food, format "third rack" especially useful. What do we want more? Edited by a computer, a MIDI controller? Who needs it? Not real musicians ... Memories (like the Boss EQ-20)? A musician who respects himself only uses two different EQ: Simply the bypass (not including the hacking of the knobs of the instrument itself ...). So nothing superfluous, nothing lacking.

UTILIZATION

Using this type of product requires little explanation, except perhaps the 80Hz high pass filter, which reduces the "rumble" for clarity. While it is intuitive for a job, the EQ-3B asks all the same, like any powerful equalizer, a time of research and trial and error (for that is not "pro" in the field). Ergonomics, nothing wrong on this point.

SOUND QUALITY

Versatility is ensured by the extremely wide bandwidth and dynamic depth: Suitable for all guitars, basses, keyboards, vocals. I use it on a Wurlitzer to give it more scale (deeper bass like a piano, warmer midrange, treble clearer): incredible, the sound now has more sustain! On a bass guitar DI, it is terrible, I boost the bass to 20Hz, for his deep infrabass with subtle, like a bass. Respect of the total, no breath.

OVERALL OPINION
