Variety Of Sound ThrillseekerXTC

This is an exciting / eq parallel freeware developed by Variety of Sound.

Note that it is available in 2 versions, "black" and "blue", each of which is intended for use depending on the RMS level of your tracks:-18dBFS to black, -4 to 0 dBFS for the blue (I'm so sure exact values, but in any case verify the Blue is intended to higher levels).

This is important, the effectiveness of the plug will be dependent on the level that you send.

Easy installation, no problems with bugs as I found with other plugs VOS (but this may depend on the platforms and installations).

YOUR provides a fairly comprehensive manual, it is essential to read to properly implement this plug.

This is an exciting, so you can increase the presence of 3 Adjustable frequency bands:

- "Low" of 70 to 450 Hz
- "Mid" from 0.8 to 5 kHz
- "Air" from 3.2 to 18 khz

You can also excite all bands with the "drive" module.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

As I already said, no problems with bugs on my config (Sonar X1 Producer on an Intel I7, Roland Octa capture sound card).

It may present a small problem but I am not sure, see the last section of this notice.

It is not too resource hungry.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for about 1 year, I was looking for an exciting / eq parallel to add presence on tracks (something clariphonic the kind that is in my opinion the best in this range of treatments, but not the budget to buy this plug for now).

It works quite well, is quite transparent and allows me to go gently add the presence of high frequencies not too aggressive.

I used in parallel to achieve the same kind of results the BBE Sonic sweet (a "harmonic maximizer" and "sonic maximizer" - see my review of these products for more information), the "black dragon" of Antress (freeware that simulates a Pultec eq type), the "Modern Exciter" from Antress too, and finally the "HF Exciter" Sonar.

(Attention all these plugs help add shine and presence on your tracks but all have different operating principles, which are moreover very little documented by the manufacturers).

Brief general the Thrillseeker behaves quite well, it is more transparent than the Black Dragon that I found easily aggressive enough complementary products in BBE (the final ones I use the least are the Modern Exciter of Antress - which has served me well, however, before I buy more BBE - and HF Exciter Sonar).

The only problem I found, and I have already mentioned, is that the tamper plug in your stereo signal, which is not documented by YOUR: so this is a bug, is a little secret that manufacturing does not wish to engage VOS, but is not part of the operating principle of this effect.

I'm a little disappointed with this last point, however, this does not prevent the Thrillseeker XTC to be a good plug, 0 euros so it deserves a try!

Very light and very stable

OVERALL OPINION

Like all Variety Of Sound, it's just awesome
Very transparent, it adds analog warmth without affecting the dynamics, unlike ThrillseekerLA or density, other vst YOUR.
You can adjust the frequency of entries, then turn the drive and / or MOJO and dry / wet output.
If you want to add warmth on your insert, without going to a drive emulation or indeed send / to is the ideal plug.
