Wedges2's review"Great Piece of Software!"

iZotope Vinyl [Freeware]
It's freeware, so it's very easy to install. You give izotope your email address, and then they send it to you. Download it, install it, get to work. Once it's opened up the GUI is pretty straight forward. There are controls for things like dust amount, scratches, and wear. There is also a section in the bottom left where you can choose if the record is warped or not. Unfortunately I've never used this as it is only available in the DX version of the software, not VST.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

It's very light on the CPU, had never crashed, has never really been a problem. It's a very light program that will more than likely never give you any problems. I've been using it for over a year and I love it. I use it with FL Studio on a Dell XPS Studio PC running Windows 7. It has six cores and 6 GB of RAM, but even with computers less suited for music Izotope Vinyl still shouldn't give you any problem.

OVERALL OPINION

Well it's free so you can't really go wrong. Fortunately it's a great peice of software anyway, which makes it way better. It really has the capability of making normal instruments or recording into old timely pieces from the 20's to even the 70's. It's a very convincing sounds. Sometimes when I want the sampled feel to a beat that isn't sampled I'll add it to some choice instruments. Better yet, I'll even record myself, pitch it up, add some vinyl, and boom. I have the high pitched vocal sample, except it's not a sample. It's a great tool for making drums sounds dusty or old as well. Overall it's a great piece of software that I use all the time. The best part is it is FREE!

BadApple's review"Pretty cool, if you want vinyl effect."

iZotope Vinyl [Freeware]
With this plug in it was very easy to install, just go to the site find it download it and install, it will automatically go into your vst folder for whatever digital audio workstation you use so you can then just go onto it and open it up and start making vinyl replica sounds.
There was no manual with this but it is pretty self explanatory to be fair, there is not really anything that you should need a manual for as everything is labelled quite well.
There was no compatibility issues with my set up, I have friends with it on different digital audio workstations and they say that it works fine on theirs too.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

With my configuration being a laptop with 4gb from and a 1.8GHz processor this works very well, I do not think that it takes up that much cpu either as I can run around 15 of these separately on a numerous channels with no lag what so ever which is a very good thing in my eyes.
I have used this plug in for about 5 months on and off, some projects that I work on need this effect and I am grateful that this is free ware as it is very effective and has helped me on a lot of projects.

OVERALL OPINION

I wish it had a few more in depth options but it is free so its great for what you get.
I like how you can mess around with the knobs and sliders to really get a good sound that you want.
I would use this again and again but only for certain productions.
Quality is ok, not great but if you are pretty handy in the mixdown you should get a nice sound.
I have not tried another vinyl effect plugin so I can not comment on that section.

iZotope Vinyl [Freeware]
I had no problems downloading and installing iZotope Vinyl onto my computer. There were no compatibility issues and I have not had to reinstall it or anything since I first installed it. The configuration of the plug-in is easy to follow and very straightforward. There are a ton of different "vinyl" like sounds you can get from this plug-in. As this program is free I don't think there is a manual, or at least I have never seen one.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

I run Vinyl in Pro Tools LE 7.4 with a MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro has a 2.2 Ghz Intel Core Duo processor and 4 GB of RAM. I run Pro Tools with a Digi 002R for an audio interface. I have never had a problem running this plug-in with this configuration. I have also used Vinyl with Pro Tools HD 7.4 and have not had a problem using it with that configuration either. I have only used this plug-in on one track at a time so I don't know how many you could run at once, but I'm assuming that most out there are probably only going to use this on their master faders.

OVERALL OPINION

I've had iZotope Vinyl for about three years. While I don't use it seriously all that often, when I want something to sound like it was made in an earlier decade, this comes in very handy. Of course, since it is free the price cannot be beat, and for this reason everyone should have this in their arsenal. I don't know of any other plug-ins that do what this plug-in does, especially not any free ones. It is very easy to go right on the iZotope website and download it free! While limited in use to certain situations this plug-in can prove to be very useful and it won't cost you a dime!

iZotope Vinyl [Freeware]
This software installed with no problems. It's just a small installer that you download, then you get a password emailed to you. You can get up and running with this plug-in in no time. I didn't have any compatibility issues. After it's installed your program will find it in the VST folder and you'll be ready to go. Izotope provides a good manual in PDF for how to make the best use of this cool little plug-in. It's definitely worth a read, it will help you to use it better.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

My computer is a Dell and I have an Intel processor with 2GB of ram, and I am running Windows XP with Cubase software. The plug-in works perfectly with my set-up, as it should with most others because it is available in other formats. This software doesn't really use much CPU power, so you could run a whole bunch of them at once if you wanted to with a minimal hit on CPU performance. It hasn't ever caused any stability trouble for me, so it looks like this is a very stable plug-in.

OVERALL OPINION

I have been using this for 2 years or so. Izotope offers it as a free download if you go to their website and register, so for value, you obviously can't beat free. It is a very specific application in that it makes whatever source you put through it sound like it's being played off a record. I love how they let you modify that intensely - such as the amount of scratches on the record, if it is dusty or not, different types of records from different decades, etc. You can really put a professional touch on a production if you use this right on an appropriate song. It's cool to make it go from lo-fi with this on it to hi-fi when you remove the effect. I have no complaints about this plug-in because it does exactly what it says, and it does it well, and it's free! The value is obviously great. I would of course get it again, I use it pretty frequently. I'd even pay for it.
