I bought this guitar from Musiciansfriend.com for $599. It came with a nice little gig-bag, but I also bought a hardshell case since I want this guitar to last long and stay in good shape. It looked like the best deal out there for a Gibson, so I went for it.

First of all, it's made in the USA. The SG body design is awesome and has a sinister look to it. It produces an incredible sound, and the set neck provides great sustain.

There really ins't anything, except around the pickups there is a very cheap looking tape, but that shouldn't affect the performance.

This is the best choice of guitar for it's price range. I'm glad that I decided to purchase this guitar. I play metal, hardcore, metalcore, punk rock, and even classic rock. This guitar can pull it off.

$599 from Musiciansfriend.com. Worth every penny!

The Gibson craftmanship is no exception on this series. The Mahogany used is beautiful, mine hase a Ebony fret board with moon inlays. Very nice guitar. Great for blues, hard rock and roll. If you looking to thrash Metallic licks, you might want to look elsewhere. The pick-ups are nice and hot, but not as crunchy as my Les Paul. More mellow. If you have a SG and a Les Paul you will be set. Thats all you need, along with a strat.

The neck is a little soft. Not to bad, just have to tune frequently it if your gonna play long, hard sets. For the most part it stays in tune in the typical Gibson fashion.

Typical Gibson quality. Great construction. The only downside is the cheap looking tape around the humbuckers.

Overall, for the money you can't beat it in my opinion. I play classic rock, blues, Zepeelin type stuff, and with the right amp, this is a typical high end Gibson(no custom shop) with less time spent on the finish. After all, the finish contributes a ton to the cost. The pick ups and hardware are the same on this guitar as most of the other mass produced models. I would recommend to someone who doesn't have $1100+ to buy a Gibson, to shop and find a good SG Faded. Mine came out of the Gibson Box with a factory set up, and I haven't change a thing. It's a great guitar.

purchuased over at hermes music in sa,tx. for about 560 dollars. Been interested in buying a gibson for a while, who isnt?

it looks good, it has the crescent moon inlays on the frets, comes with the gibson speed knobs, its got a nice paintjob, sounds great off the stacks. its a gibson!

it dents easily, doesnt have that hard shiny coating most guitars come with. i had to tweak the bridge a bit cos the action was really high. somebody over at gibson is slacking.

    Gibson Faded SG Special

Gibson SG Special FadedPublished on 05/30/03 at 15:00
I ordered this guitar from Musician's Friend online for $580, largely because it semed too good to be true.

The biggest attraction of this guitar is the value. It has all the characteristics of a regular SG special for about $250 less. The main difference (only real difference?)is the "Faded" finish, which appears to be a flat stain/oil type. This is the finish I always wished Gibson would put on an SG, so I couldn't be happier.

The neck has a rather fat profile which is not the most comfortable for faster, more involved styles. The factory strings and setup were pathetic, but that is easily remedied, and not a particular failing of the model itself. I like the moon inlays, but they …

I like the moon inlays, but they look odd as they only go to the 12th fret.

The consturction, electronics, etc... are on par with any other model in the line. The excellence that guitarists expect from and pay dearly for under the Gibson label is clearly present. I can't imagine what is actually so different about this guitar that it costs so much less.

If you cannot, or don't want to, afford a standard Gibson SG, and are too much of a snob to play Epiphone (like me), this guitar is as good as it gets. This is exactly the guitar I have always wanted, and its good to see Gibson reaching out to musicians with day jobs without compromising the quality of the instrument as it really matters.

Gibson SG Special FadedPublished on 03/14/03 at 15:00
I got it at The Music Gallery of Highland Park after I tried it out there. I also tried out other SGs at Guitar Center. I paid $575.

I LOVE the crescent moon inlays- also, I like the ebony frettboard MUCH better than the rosewood one on the regular SG Special. The humbuckers are great too.

I like everything except that, on occasion, the highest string will get caught on the bridge humbucker. However, if you have a problem with this, you can get covers(the hbs are open coil) for both of them for ~$30 MAX.
    Overall, I LOVE this guitar.

All mahogany, "worn red" or "worn brown" finish. On Gibson's website, the brown looks cr@ppy, but I've never seen it in person. The red is really Cherry…

I bought this guitar online at Musicians Friend becuase it was a Gibson, and had some awesome reviews on it at other websites. I paid $579 and it came with a free gig bag.

It is awesome. I've played a $3000 Strat, and the Gibson in my opinion out-performed the Strat. It has a very light-weight body so you can play for hours, and it never comes out of tune. It has sweet sound, one humbucker has a nice crisp clean sound, and the other has a kind of a bite, great for power-chords. The strings they put on it sound very crisp, and you can do bends, slides and vibratos very easily. Very nice guitar, and it is so nice looking. Worth the money. Oh, and the worn cherry finish is gorgeous.

Nothing really, there is one problem. When I got it, the neck was really sticky, from the finish that was on it. You could still smell it, that's how new it was! But after a week of playing, it was just fine. There was another problem, the pickguard had a good-sized scuff running right between the two humbuckers. It's now disappeared though, but I scratched it up elsewhere with my pinkie when the fingernail got to long. Other than that, it's perfect!

When I first got it, I was a little worried about the glued on neck. (I guess it's glued on, it's not bolted on anyway.) But it is very nice, and it looks like it's all one piece, so whatever. Other than that, it is very nice construction.

Very good guitar, and it's a Gibson for under $600! It has great sound and playability. There's really nothing more to say except that if you have the money then you need to buy one of these!

I bought the guitar new at Grandma's music and sound Albuquerque, New Mexico.
    ca: $550.

This guitar is the product of over fifty years of Gibson's experience crafting quality musical instruments.

As a working recording artist and session player, this guitar is an investment.

    The aesthetics are remarkable.
It has a beuatiful "faded" brown finish. It also has standard crescent moon pearl inlays!

The body is select mahogany. The fretboard is rosewood and the neck is made of rounded mahogany. The frets are medium-jumbo.

The pickups deviate from the vintage look and feel of the instrument. They emphasize upper midrange frequencies.

The fretboard is flat. It's great for "shredding," and soulful "bluesy rock" stlye wailing.

The drawbacks of this guitar are the limited scope of the instrument.
I would not use this guitar for anything other than rock or metal.
The sound of the instrument should appeal to the Gibson enthusiast.
Those who prefer the mellow tones of a Fender Stratocaster or the
bright sound of a Telecaster might be disappointed with the Faded SG.

The construction of this guitar is flawless.
It has a soild feel and look.
One note: the neck- through construction makes this guitar fragile.
I recommend buying a hardshell case and
    monitiring the humidity wherever it's
    stored.

I have been playing guitar for over fifteen years.
In that time I have come to know exactly what I like and don't like about electric guitars.
I have always wanted to own a SG.
This guitar delivers exactly what I want.
A modern guitar with soul of a classic vintage instrument!

    A big personality

Gibson SG Special FadedPublished on 02/23/12 at 01:57

Everything has been said many times ...
On mine, I did make some minor changes: micro caps, buttons knobs identical to the standard ... But we remain in the aesthetics ...

    UTILIZATION

It is a SG with a handle dense hair, which, with knaki balls that I use fingerprints, is the top-level comfort ... Everything flies very well.
Concerning the remarks that can be read here and there on this guitar, I would bring a small personal light:

Concerning the remarks that can be read here and there on this guitar, I would bring a small personal light:
    > There is a violin and a good quality fittings (gibson what ...), provided not just buy it online. Indeed, it took me a while to find mine, which is made for the body as two pieces of wood and well balanced massive (my luthier is found in terms of violin making at least equivalent to a good standard). .. Some joints were more doubtful of multiple bits (falls?) Mahogany. All this to say: this is a guitar which can be bought only after test!
    > About the fragility of the finish: in absolute terms, it is clear that a stenciled finish will be more fragile than triple cel ... Nevertheless, after nearly three years, I notice that mine on the parts that wear and polish (below the neck, under the right arm ...), tends to take a beautiful finish for little we take care.
    > On the matter of understanding sometimes risky: Before drilling holes for new mechanics (yuck), you must first resize and lubricate your frets, mine has become a very stable!
    > On the bridge pickup (490T), at first I was tempted to replace it with a 498T ... but in fact it is one of the highlights of this guitar ... I come back in the paragraph after!

    SOUNDS

I play mostly Blues, Rock, sometimes to the metal.
The guitar is in all these styles shows a presence in the mix pretty amazing. Good sound field to it, this is the crunch drooling to saturation, but it is also very capable.
The clean sounds are gibsonnniens: very thick on the serious, very warm, jazzy limit. The bridge pickup will bring more clarity, with a dose of aggression available under the right hand.
The crunch and saturated rock I do not insist you understand that this is his kingdom ...
Although this is not his field a priori, the metal will not refuse her. on the other hand, it will have its spectrum all its own, crammed with medium ... Interesting mix again.

Both pickups are very complementary. The mic handle is an old acquaintance. As for the treble, although initially I found the output level a little low, I soon discovered the following:
    > Already by re-adjusting microphones, in fact the output level is not so bad
    > For against what dynamics! what nuances in the right hand! On a combo tube at identical settings, the caress of a rope (arpeggios) sound very detached, clean limit, while a slightly scratched manfully agreement will shake the walls ... brief ... Happiness!

    OVERALL OPINION

excellent, provided for taking the time to choose "good number", and resume the factory settings, including the damn nut cut clearly in tears.

These precautions taken, it is a wonderful tool, durable, combining versatility and big personality.

I also have a jazzmaster mexico also full of qualities, but the SG is my # 1 ...

I connect to a marshall jcm. So we must control it if it goes easily crunch
saturated in one must learn to tame the beast. the gain of the microphone being high enough it goes fast in all directions.
the rest is that it plays almost of happiness alone.

These guitars have a really dynamic sound and very focused sound but still fall in line with the voicing of the Gibson guitars in general. I find that there are frequency range is a little bit more in the mid range and they really excel in life recording applications much better in my opinion and give Les Paul instruments. Overall they're a dynamic guitar and they sound fantastic and pretty much any setting an application that you put the men.

    UTILIZATION

    Gibson SG Special Faded features:
    Color: Worn Cherry
    Body: Solid mahogany
    Neck: Mahogany
Fingerboard: Rosewood with pearloid dot inlays
    Number of frets: 22
Pickups: Two coverless humbuckers - 490R (neck) and 490T (bridge)
Controls: Two each tone and volume with three-way pickup selector switch
    Machine heads: Green Key
    Hardware: Chrome plated
    Case: Black padded gigbag

    SOUNDS

These guitars really do well any high gain type amplifier settings. So these guitars mixed with a Marshall or Mesa boogie amplifier than you're really to find that perfect sweet spot with these guitars. Since they have two hum buckers installed you find that giving them a load of saturation and distortion really excel what they're capable of doing. These guitars don't really sound that great in a clean settings such as a Fender clean or a Vox clean, but when you put them in a position to drive to get tube saturation than you will find out how capable of hard rock tones these guitars are able to handle. They sound great in pretty much any setting but they really have their sweet spot and what they're built for any high gain application.

    OVERALL OPINION

You can find guitars pretty much anywhere Gibson guitars are sold. They're not quite as readily available as a Gibson Les Paul guitar but they're still very popular and pretty easy to find. You can also find these on most eBay and auction websites but I suggest combing through the classifieds in your local city or your favorite online forum to find one of these instruments. You can find great deals right now because of the gear market prices are so low and there's a lot of deals to be found on these particular guitars. I highly recommend these guitars anyone looking for a great Gibson sound and needs a great guitar for recording or live use. These are players guitars and they sound great on stage as well as any recording session.

Gibson SG Special FadedPublished on 11/24/11 at 20:51
I purchased the Gibson Faded Series Guitar for my son when he had his 16th birthday. He really loved the guitar and so did I! I love the split coil pick ups! its awesome to be able to get the sound that i want! i really like the slick back on the neck also! it makes sliding up and down the neck alot easier! if you are a serious musician and are in the market for a nice guitar you can't go wrong with the Gibson Faded Series, not to mention that its affordable. We all know how good it is to have a nice guitar on a tight budget. Also, this doesn’t have to be for a beginner, I am not a beginner and feel that this is a great guitar and its well built.

    UTILIZATION

The pick ups are phenomenal and the switching is incredible. The Faded Series Gibson can get thick full jazz sounds or thin telecaster sounds and lots in between. The action is great! I wanted a solid body and got one. Nothing chambered or weight relieved here.

    SOUNDS

This gives a very full sound, I do not like the bumps in the media microphones as Seymour Duncan SH4, so I'm happy to have a micro balance! In terms of parasites, it is nothing compared to other guitars home I could try! Microphones terrible!
I love all the sounds of this guitar!

    OVERALL OPINION

It's comfortable and it just fits me. I can play it for hours. When my son plays he plays it through a Bose L1 with 2 base bins and Digitech GNX4. The Faded Series guitar is flawless. The plec neck is great and the action is smooth as silk. My associates are always looking to use it. The guitar is making him a better player. Lots of people enjoy only the look of it, but I love the sound it produces.

    SOUNDS

The Gibson SG has a very solid warm tone. It features mahogany wood in the body and in the neck. You get a rosewood fretboard on top which I will balance is out the guitar very nicely. It's two humbucker pick ups some really drive the sound of this instrument. This is a very cool guitar for or playing hard rock metal but it also cleans up pretty well in at probably a little bit better than a Gibson Les Paul guitar. Sushi use a clean amplifier it will get you a lot further down the road to get some Les Paul guitar can get you. Overall this is a great guitar for the money and solid sounding instrument for most music.

    OVERALL OPINION

I like these guitars because you can find them very easily and in most guitar retailers. It has a great feeling a great sound that allows you to be creative and incentives. I like these guitars well because you can reach the higher frets much easier because of the cutaway body in the center body. It's a lot more comfortable to Gibson Les Paul guitar and allows for easy soloing. You can find these guitars for right around $1199 online and in most guitar retailers.

A guitar factory in the United States I think.
    22 Frets, 2 humbucker gibson
    Fixed bridge
    2 volume and 2 tone
A handle big enough but at least we know he is! (Perso j'adore!)

I put 8 because desfois to use that I made 24 frets would not refuse and also the frets are a little Exceeds the handle, but my luthier me fix it.

    UTILIZATION

As said prcdement, the handle for me, it's a habit, but what jaime round handle big enough (be careful it is not a log!) But the freight is not great, arrange to do so by a luthier ...

    Access to acute is phenomenal!
Ergonomics? Ba I find it rather confortable.Super fairly slight, not a form teachers to play sitting as standing.

A slightly bent when playing standing but nothing very serious and with a good strap is more problem!
T get it easily on a good sound? Ba depent I think it especially of the amp. That said it sounds a vacuum bien.Elle already has good sustain.

    SOUNDS

I find this guitar very versatile.
I play a little bit of everything: funk, rock, blues, heavy, pop and a jarrive always find me sounds more or less suitable.
I play on a dsormais Powerball.En settle many, there are ways to do just about what you want, just know after playing (ca, ca is not by rule against, I'll have to work)

It has a super distortion, it sends severe for good big rhythmic metal!
The clean is great as I trouve.J uses it to this one over the microphone dailleurs serious that I find very soft, very round.

    OVERALL OPINION

I have this guitar for almost a year and a half, this is my first real electric guitar.
I'm starting completely satisfait.Au I apreciation no more than that, especially with the history of freight asssdbordantes the handle, rough, and also the action of the high ropes well.
But after a good adjustment, I rediscovered! Super guitar!

Before I try to try a stratum, an Lp, but on this one I was a good flash so OCCAZ

The report quality price? Ba we know that gibson is like to ruin us!
But hey it is cheaper than a standart and it allows the sound davoir gibson at a lower cost.

Exprience with, you will do again this choice ?----> If this is to take a standart or a high end guitar with floyd 24 box, yes I would do this choice without hesitation! Superb scratch

    In rsumune guitar asser "raw"
If I can do a lil comparison, I'd say it's not the big mercedes full option with aircon and everything but it's rather a good lil roadster that gives us a lot of sense
