Versatile. Surprisingly loud when overdriven.

Fender Vibro Champ "Blackface" [1964-1967]Published on 01/13/18 at 15:12
I got this amp in an equipment trade. Since it's a small amp, I expected to use it primarily for practice.

It's about 14″ x 17″ x 7 1/2″. Six watts, eight inch speaker. Two inputs. Simple controls: Volume, Treble, Bass. There is vibrato which I didn't use much since it didn't fit into any of the music styles I played.

On it's own, it's very clean, suitable for electric/acoustic guitars or jazz.

What really surprised me was how well it worked with a wide variety of pedals including distortion and delay. As an overdriven tube amp, it can put out classic hard-rock crunchy tones as well as metal. Surprisingly loud. I frequently hooked it up to a 12 inch speaker cabinet, creating a mini-stack and it worked well for practice/rehearsal even with a drummer.

Lots of pros. The only con is the price, since it's vintage amp. Well worth it if you can afford it.
