Laney LC30
Published on 12/30/01 at 15:00I swapped this amp with a band colleague for my Fender Princeton Chorus which was good but I wanted some valves and he wanted some chorus!! That was about a year ago, it had been around in the band for a couple of years before that but has only been gigged sinced I have had it.
Very acceptable and easy to find clean valve tones, especially with my US Telecaster. I also play a Gordon Smith (twin humbuckers)and the sound is nice and rich though it needs a bit of tone control adjustment. I also play a Gordon Smith (twin humbuckers)and the sound is nice and rich though it needs a bit of tone control adjustment. The overdriven sound is fantastic with a very convincing range of blues crunch and solo tones to out of control mayhem (little explored or used by me but always fun). It is a very loud amp for its 30watt rating, I can't ever imagine needing more volume for the lowly bar and wedding gigs that I play, it rarely gets turned up beyond 3 or 4. I use mine with a Laney 12 inch extension enclosure to add a bit more bottom end. I also use an acoustic guitar a fair bit and using an acoustic amp emulator (in a Korg AX1000G stomper) it sound very nice indeed, big and tonally very rich.
Could possibly do with a bit more bottom end, though as it is played more at decent volumes the speaker seems to be freeing up a bit and the extension cabinet (for which I paid not much over 100 pounds UK) made a lot of difference. For a 1x12, it seems heavy....very minor gripes really as it is a great amp.
Construction seems as good as any I have seen, there have been no problems with it in the 3 or 4 years of its existence. It has been bashed and dropped and bears very little in the way of scars as a result.
An extremely good all round amplifier, consider one as an alternative to the far higher priced US alternatives if you are looking around. Great value for money. The louder it is the better it sounds....still that's true of most amps and would we have it any other way?

The next level!
Published on 12/17/11 at 05:55The Laney LC30 1x12 combo is the amp that picks up where the LC15 and LC15R left off. It's got a 12" speaker and puts out 30 watts of power as opposed to 15. It's two channels (separate clean and drive) and with the same core EQ controls and the reverb and effects loop that are left over from the 15 watter. It's pretty simple overall, just a great British set of tones. The clean channel has a typical layout of volume, bright switch, bass, middle, treble, and the drive channel has gain, volume, bass, middle, treble. The master section has a reverb control for controlling overall reverb levels and then a master volume.

UTILIZATION
Getting a good sound out of this amp is pretty easy overall. It's got a pretty typical EQ layout and the controls react in the typical way for an amp of this style. They're not insanely tweakable like a modern style amp (IE: Mesa Boogie) but they have more of a subtle curve like a Fender or VOX amp. The two channels offer a nice range between clean tones and drive tones that is easy to balance and offers a different take than a Fender, VOX or Marshall. The tone of this amp is nice and smooth, but with a certain biting quality to the top end that sounds great when pushed hard.
SOUNDS
The overall vibe from this amp is that of a British amp with a vintage tone in mind. The clean channel is nice and spanky, with a hint of grit and saturation that lurks within if you hit it hard enough. It works best for a nice country or early rock n roll tone I find. It's not really sweet or dark enough for true jazz sounds and it's a bit too clean for gritty blues to my liking. The drive tones are pretty solid as well, very smooth and clear overall. The tones can range from Cream/Hendrix levels of saturation all the way up to some dinosaur sized rock tones that really give some nice kick, especially when using some hotter humbucking pickups.
OVERALL OPINION
All in all I think the Laney LC30 is a great amp for someone looking for a unique take on the British tube tone in a versatile dual channel package. This model has been superseded by the LC30II which updated some of the features, so you'll only find this model used now, but when you do see one it's definitely worth a look. They can be had for about $400 used which is a great deal considering the quality of the sound that you get.See less10 - saranacPublished on 03/15/05 at 04:34 (This content has been automatically translated from French)All lamps (3 + 4)
30 watts is assumed at all ... enough to cover a battery.
2 inputs: high + low. they can not be used simultaneously, however.
effects loop.
foot-switch: Canal + reverb.
So 2 channels (with EQ own):
1 / beautiful clear, rich, clear. with a brightness button (pfft)
2 / saturated ultra-dirty. if you want to bite (crunch has Duane Denisson) there must be some gain.
with a gain background is rather Neil Young: almost fuzz, treble parasites very pretty, but no details / definition.
possibility to add HP by switching to 4 ohm.

because: the dynamics is such that we can dispense with two channels. if you play softly, the sound is clear and pretty. and if you want dirty and pretty, and although you attack stronger.
everyone makes fun of this amp like, "Well, it is not and if it was Laney, do you know a lot of guys (always guys ...) that affect Laney? .."
and although I find it provides.
to find the sound, it must be precise: a knob 1/8th of a turn decale changes everything (well above the level of gain).
EQ is not very radical cons. So we must train a little.
reverb .. neutral?
English manual, but it's never a good amp. ca not change much.
SOUNDS
For who wants to keep the rock guitar sound, yes it is. very roots.
it sounds better to my ears than the model II, which is too modern to my ears less than dynamic, a bit more compressed. and less attractive appearance.
(Very important aspect, is not it?)
after, he may suffer from comparison with a Vox for craditude or nags super precise stuff that cost 5 times more expensive. I prefer to Peavey or Fender in the same price, it is dripping, and personal love rather well.
even if mine does not.
OVERALL OPINION
Since 1999.
but it is down for 1 year. THE repair shop invoice Pigalle me something, I brought him, still nothing.
I like it because it's grunge. vintage early.
Yes, not bad in this price range (then y'avait not much, that changed?)
and I re-iterate: I much prefer the model II, which is similar to its competitors also in sound. it has lost its charm.
very good quality / price.
be compared, but yes. if a big head that stinks.See less21 - deniPublished on 03/09/06 at 11:02 (This content has been automatically translated from French)All lamps (4 ECC83 and four EL84)

UTILIZATION
The configuration is very simple and efficient trs. The pots are sensitive trs which provides a large pannel of its DIFFERENT, especially since the button can boost vritablement bright treble. Finally, trs rverb is handy, you can go to a trslgre a trs important.
For the manual, I do not know if it exists, at least I have ever seen.
SOUNDS
This amp is perfect all the styles.
The sound field is clear: we just go round trs something jazzy type sound that great for slap playing Funck.
The distorition is crunsh is no need to use it to find the mtal or hard rock, but good for the vintage, blues or pop.
APRS you can use it like me to have a big sound mtal adding a distortion pedals in good quality. The Bafle clestion is not on mine, but the first one made in UK and supports powerful bass trs well (I use a 7 string peavey amp prdator and supports many trs , which is rare!) and bright button gives the possibility to have lots of sharp, perfect to make a sound distortion slamming prcise really!
OVERALL OPINION
It is a powerful amp that can compete with a hassle free 100 watt.
The sound may be clear submlime if your microphones are good.
With distortion or OD pedals you can do what you want.
If you want, as it can have two outputs for Bafle, you can make it a twin and even to use it just like amp by plugging it into a 4x12.See less20 - iamqman
Good little combo

UTILIZATION
The look of this amplifier is not very intimidating at all. It only has a few controls that allow you to dial in a decent clean and decent overdrive tone. You get a clean channel and an overdrive channel ans that is pretty much about it. There isn't that much to get in the way of your tone with added effects or modeling of any kind.
SOUNDS
If you're into classic rock sound this this is going to be a good amplifier for you. If you are determined to get that British tone that you would get out of the Marshall or a Orange amp then this will be right up there with those tones. It's nothing to be ultra high gain and it's certainly not a fender clean amplifier. The clean is pretty decent and it sounds more like a Vox clean or a plexi clean. The distortion channel is a mild break up very similar to eight Marshall at JCM 800 type tone. It's so it's going to get a little bit of dirt but not a very highly saturated tone.
OVERALL OPINION
Is it fun little combo is if you can find him in the used market and they don't cost a whole lot. This is not the kind of amplifier that you really going to spend a lot of time trying to find because there's not really anything at this amplifier does a lot of other Marshall or Orange amplifier's can't do and do it a lot better. If you're struggling to find a simple amp then I suggest just don't waste anymore time and buy a nice little orange combo which has a much better distortion my opinion or a Marshall combo from the 80s. The new marshall combos aren't very good anymore so I suggest getting one from the 80s or just biting the bullet and getting an orange amplifier combo. Those orange amplifiers are very will built and have a solid tone all the way through each channel.See less00 - Don_Viviano

Until it's crunch Lger 5, 9 to 10 we lose precision, the amp distortion I find vomits. I use it with the winning 4 with a Les Paul. Treble 7, I just boost the mids (6-7) and leaves the lower back (4), I regret the absence of knob of presence, and not very effective qualisation we can not say that the amp is versatile, he always keeps the same color.
Otherwise, a very british crunch as I like, with a little grain even when (not as much a marshall vintage though). I boost the crunch with a Digitech CM-2 in front for the solo, has added just enough gain without affecting the volume or the sound of the guitar.
The rverb is not too intrusive, but I do not use it bcp.
OVERALL OPINION
I've had a few weeks, it is used in RPTES, and soon in concert and in studio. Before I had an equivalent of the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, and I wanted to pass something more English, and with a bigger crunch. The amp suits me, I find that very qualisation is not efficient, it is r-Plutt match the sound of the amp room that fawns own sounds . Pay 350 OCCAZ, I am satisfied. It is diverged from Laney VC30 which in turn is more vintage, crunch diverged, and bcp less gain. It is very very powerful, impossible to grow by more than 3 RPTE ... I wanted to spend 50w 30w power to push the amp ...See less30
