Kustom Defender 5H

For any guitar amp user you cannot get any easier than this amp. Kustom has given us a 5 watt amps that has only one control knob and that being a volume knob. You don't have a bunch of bells and whistles and multiple channels or anything like that but just a good solid small watt rock tone head.

This amp uses one preamp tube of a 12ax7 and one power tube which is a El84. Kustom tells you to slowly turn the volume up to hear how clean this amp is and how it naturally goes in to since low volume goodness. This is smaller voltage power tube so it doesn't need a lot of wattage to get it to break up or distort.

SOUNDS

You have three speaker outputs consisting of 4, 8, and 16 ohms an the one volume control knob. So there isn't a lot to get confused with. I would say this is a great little practice amp that can get a good solid moderate rock tone. this is not a gigging amp because at 5 watts you won't be able to blow a candle out with that low of volume.

This amp works well with a good guitar with a humbucker pickup installed. I like a moderately high out put pickup with this amp such as a standard Seymour Duncan JB. That kind of a pickup will get you a little more dirt and get this amp to give you a little more in the sonic range of distortion. This amp sounds best with a good 4x12 speaker cabinet pushing those small but thick low watt distortion sounds.

OVERALL OPINION

These amps come in new right at around $99. That is the cheapest all tube vale amp that I have ever seen. This could be the simplest most convenient practice tube amp in the world. It is cheap and sounds good for home use. I would recommend this amp to anyone who needs a good tube sound at low volumes and doesn't want to spend $100...it is 1 cent less.

I bought a pedal shockwave 2-3 months ago, to see. Aim of the operation: play as straight, no effects or anything, to change the wireless MIDI bazaar crazy (even if you are already a little shaken the cap).

Intended use: home, so not much bicoz neighbors, speaker bass reflex fades sovereign 6 inches (stunning realism and spatial).

So I took a lamp automatically 12AY7 for more clarity and especially more progressive in the volume.

First point, zero noise, that's great. F. .. M. .. B. .., M. .. can go to .... with their constant noise in Roros miles past!

Kustom This is great, a volume that is all. 3 hp output and even when a button is off.

The head is small, light and very well built, it is a treat to position and we see the EL84 blush when playing scantily clad!

SOUNDS

This is where my mind is limited, I have so far played only on a volume.
I have to saturate the shockwave, and the amp gets along very well with. Given the lack of EQ kustom VT999 my home Bebert sounds nicer though.

I was surprised by the sound of kustom as not constipated duck stuck in the mediums without serious acute or real as my late junior BUGERA valve v5, but with full bass and midrange is well tidy.
The impression he is bigger than the other is immediate, he has lung koa.

course is ideal for hosting a few pedals, any spell well and with aplomb.
The overall color is rather dark hair, and stocky. Finally, on my box.

OVERALL OPINION

He is the head of the class, as you say that a uppercut F. .. Vibro Champ XD orbit, for example.

I did not even want to push it through to see my hot plate, as I like it as is. In any case it would not be practical in two (clean, distortion-delay if necessary), and the valve junior was horrible in this case so no hurry to retry the coup ...

With the original 12AX7 and a conventional 12-inch box you will not play long in an apartment before the constabulary at your door, guaranteed!

3 years guaranteed 89 euros, I think more and more strongly that the world is crazy ...

Well I was rather surprised.
5W for me was synonymous with small volume, easy to make cruncher at reasonable volume for an apartment with neighbors little understanding.
I was far from the truth, the Braille Box brat!
I am forced to play with a maximum volume on it so hard.

Aside from that little detail of volume, the sound is really good: round, quite low, acute non-aggressive, just happiness.

I use a mex tele and Spector (humbuckers), the character of each guitar is respected.

It cash although the effects (distos, chorus, flanger, whammy among others)

I take off one point for this volume of history, ultimately it's frustrating to not be able to do cruncher without becoming deaf.

FYI, I use it with the baffle Defender HP Kustom 12 '

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for over a month, this is my first amp lamp, but I tried a packet (from Laney, Peavey, Fender's, ...)
I love her look, the side plug and play sound.
In addition it is not too expensive (approximately 200 euros for the whole head-cabinet), who could ask for more?
