I checked with 4 different amps going into a RME Fireface 800 and the clipping comes from the GI-100


SOUND QUALITY

I might be in bad luck with this particular unit, but even at very low amp volume it clips /distorts without the red clip diode glowing.

However If this would not clip the sound would be highly usable with a IR cab sim

I purchased through ZZSOUNDS.com on 12/30/03. I paid $32.00 plus shipping 2 day was $7.00 UPS. and I live in Madison Wisconsin. I purchaced this item because I am totally broke and can't afford much fun. I only make like $9.00 hour (not bad for a college graduate hey!). So in the 1st time in about 2 years I gave into my impulses and put my budget in the back seat.

I am reviewing the Behringer GI100 Ultra G Active DI Box . I bought it It is a tough brushed red Aluminum DI box. This unit can run on phantom Power. Plus it can be used to take the place of setting up a microphone to record an instruments amp. This GI 100 Ultra G has a distinctively crisp 4x12 cabinet simulator on/off button. The simulator works best when you are useing a distortion, phaser, flange, effect. The clean sound is not as noticable but blues effects sound good too.
It makes my 2x12 amp sound like a 6x12 - now take that 32.00 to the bank baby!!!!
DI boxes are great because when I play on a stage and there is alot of wires. The equiptment can turn into a big antenna whereby alot of crazy uncontrollable sound and feedback like noises occure. So it is a good thing to use. I also like that I can use it to make the level of my equipment equal the sound best performance and less or more noise.

I do not like that it cost money.
A good instrument or equiptment should
be free. But really, i couldn't tell you a bad thing.

The Behringer Ultra-G GI100 is a direct input box. It has a 1/4 inch input for your instrument and an XLR output to send a microphone cable to your audio interface or preamp. I also has options for cabinet simulation and a pad. It is built sturdy and would be hard to break the outside casing. It is not rackable, as it is a direct box.

UTILIZATION

This DI box is extremely easy to set up and to use. It won't color your sound and reproduces your direct signal well, whether your using guitar, bass guitar, or keyboards. You can use the button options as you wish for certain situations. I never looked at the manual as this is pretty easy to figure out how to use.

SOUND QUALITY

The direct box doesn't have the cleaning direct sound I have heard, but it won't color the sound and reproduces a good signal. I have used this mostly with bass guitar and keyboards, but have also used it with electric guitar. It works well for all of these applications because it gives a pretty accurate sound. My complaint about the sound would be that it is a little dull and isn't as bright or vibrant sounding as I would like it to be.

OVERALL OPINION

I've had ehringer Ultra-G GI100 direct input box for about four years. It is a nice option to use when I need to record a few direct signals at once. I have a Countryman DI box that is my go to DI box and use it when I only have one direct signal. This provides me with a cheap option to capture a direct signal that is fine for demoing stuff and for if you need a few direct boxes at once, as its cheap. While Behringer doesn't have the best reputation, and this isn't the best DI box I've used, its extremely cheap price makes it attractive and worth checking out.

UTILIZATION

I use it mainly for home recording, but this week I tested for a live touring band who showed up without an amp (very pro is not it!) And I was surprised at the sound quality, the pedalboard directly connected to the DI with cab simulation ON.

I intend to do a test at an upcoming concert, placed between the amp and the HP and compare micro and DI jack on the front, just to see if I can gain clarity, and especially in times when "the sound engineer night "(which is the cousin of the organizer and just spent the evening behind the mixing desk for a few beers) is either drunk or not very competent.

SOUND QUALITY

Transparent DI, I've never had any problems with blast simulation cab (remember a guitar amp it blows a bit and this is normal).

OVERALL OPINION

A super box, which for the price is a palmer, the first to arrive on blindtest A / B differentiated the two is not yet born or really bad liver.

I'm kind of "old fart" who swears by the lamps and who does not like the amp simulations, digital, etc., but this box has changed my life in a home studio and I use as a backup if something goes wrong amp in concert. If it proves as successful placed between the amp and the HP, I will not say never hurt Behringer.
