Great Metal Distortion

Electro-Harmonix Pocket Metal MuffPublished on 04/01/11 at 13:41
This is one great Metal pedal. It has two knobs, one labeled VOL and one labeled DIST. It uses a 3-position switch (labeled SCOOP) with three predefined Mid curves. The three settings are Off, LO, and HI. It uses a standard, BOSS style, Negative Center 9v DC plug for an adapter. It's an all-analog pedal. It has an input, and an output, both 1/4" jacks.

UTILIZATION

It is very easy to find a good tone using this pedal. The DIST knob isn't super touchy, but it's still have a lot of gain on tap. Plug in, set the SCOOP switch where you want it, then set the gain to a level you like, set the volume so it's equal when bypassed, and play.

SOUND QUALITY

The distortion knob isn't too touchy, but it has a lot of gain on tap. It can go from classic rock to death metal levels of gain with the scoop knob set right,
The scoop knob has three settings.
1. Off. The mids are unaffected and the sound is more British and crunchy,
2. LO. The mids are scooped a little, but it still has enough to cut. More American voiced, but tight and slightly crunchy,
3. HI. The sound is super scooped and somewhat muddy. It is good for death metal or nu-metal.
The input is connected to the output through a buffer, and it seems to be a good one. Not much tone loss when it's bypassed, which is a very good thing. EHX buffers always seem to be quality.

OVERALL OPINION

The pedal does better than most pedals for around twice the price. For $65, this pedal annihilates every other one around.
This pedal sounds great. End of story.
I've tried a Digitech Grunge, a BOSS MT-2. and countless other Metal pedals. This one was the best I tried that I could afford.

Pure analog pedal (extremely compact, I'm still surprised!). Note that the control caps on my model are black not silver... I'll take one point off because I think they look awful.

UTILIZATION

It couldn't be easier and you'll quickly find several interesting sound settings.

SOUND QUALITY

It's THE pedal. The gain control is ultra sensitive and it's possible to play rock'n'roll in the "0" position. Higher settings produce a compressed tone without an excessive distortion. It's fabulous for people who like long notes (like Santana, Gary Moore). But it really starts getting serious when you set the gain to max....…

It's THE pedal. The gain control is ultra sensitive and it's possible to play rock'n'roll in the "0" position. Higher settings produce a compressed tone without an excessive distortion. It's fabulous for people who like long notes (like Santana, Gary Moore). But it really starts getting serious when you set the gain to max. When the scoop switch is at the normal position, the sound is unusable for rhythm parts but not for solos!!!!!! It has a huge power. I'm a shredder and I promise you that you'll have enough gain!! Everything sounds right (at least with my guitar): sweeping, tapping, fast picking. The sound is not muddy. For rhythm parts, I set the gain control to max and the scoop switch to high. As if I were Lahio. The sound is sharp and brutal!! It's mind-blowing! I take one point off because the scoop mode is unusable.

OVERALL OPINION

I've been using it for two months and I love its versatility. I tested a Boss DS1 but it wasn't powerful enough for me. I think I would buy the big Metal Muff if I had more money.

Concentrate well graoux hairy.
A knob volume, gain knob, a selector 3 levels to dig mediums.
It is NOT true bypass, contrary to what is indicated on the manufacturer's website but buffered bypass. This is also clearly stated in the corrected and paper sheet / manual that came with the box.
Electroharmonix is really not clear the top.

UTILIZATION

No finesse or versatility, it is not made for it.
This is a pedal that specializes in metal and filled his role perfectly.

SOUND QUALITY

on the other hand there is a concern, even inactivated this pedal I do not eat a lot of signal. It stifles the high frequency and I know that a few strokes of a pick if I put in my board or not ...
Therefore obliged Loop box if you want to use in addition to other effects / clear sound.

OVERALL OPINION

Good print quality, the grain of the saturation is really terrible.
For 38 €, there is a very good value hair / price.
Only drawback, the acute loss of signal in bypass, so add 50 € for a loop box.

Big personality

Electro-Harmonix Pocket Metal MuffPublished on 05/15/12 at 03:55

High gain distortion pedal analog.

In one, an out, a 9V power supply input.

True Bypass.

UTILIZATION

There is no simple, one volume knob and a knob for gain. As an EQ, a 3-position switch determines the character of mid scoop, only option for an equalizer.

The manual is superfluous.

The sound editing could not be easier.

SOUND QUALITY

The EHX Metal Muff Distortion signed a distortion with a big personality, which sounds very organic and relatively warm, even at high gain. SOUND QUALITY

The EHX Metal Muff Distortion signed a distortion with a big personality, which sounds very organic and relatively warm, even at high gain. The sound at low gain, approaching an overdrive pushed to its entrenchment is very catchy. We have a good running efficiency of gain knob, except on the last third where one is already in too big of her to have some significant differences.

We really regret the absence of potential equalization is really missing a distortion of this quality and mid scoop is in my opinion not decisive or effective, you lose the whole aspect furious big disto burnée and well in the activating a switch short little use.

OVERALL OPINION

I used it for a while and have tried many other models.
What I like about her is simply the sound! This is the best feature of this pedal.

The price / quality ratio is excellent, as often with EHX.

I just love his sound I offered myself for the MetalMuff standard features that I missed on this one but keep this particular sound, and too bad for the position it takes on board my little ...
