I'd been playing my axe for about a year and a half an i figured it could do with a bit more of a kick so i went to the nearest Dawson's (Chester, England) and asked what they recomended. I tried a couple of standard distorion pedals and then the guy who was helping me suggested the Metal Zone. The way he set the pedal up and said "now try this" with such relish showed haow good he thought it was. After blasting out a few chords an a minor pent. solo i was hooked. It cost about 80 pounds which is pretty hefty but well worth it!!

Its got the capability to produce every sound from a meaty, Metallica-style thump, to a Jimi Hendrix scream depending on how you set it up. The sample settings provided with the unit are very helpfull and you can fine tune them to your own needs. Whether you're just messing around or performing live this pedal is amazing. The simple stomp-box switch is great for shifting in and out of distortion mid-song. For example i used it to play Metallica's 'Nothing Else Matters' which is mostly clean and i just kicked it in for the solo.

Very few complaints, mainly the cost but this is a high performance machine. There's also a little fuzz if you leave your rig set up with the pedal on but this is easily righted by kicking the pedal off when not playing. It does eat through 9V batteries like nobody's business so unplugg it when your not using it or, even better, get a Boss mains adapter for it.

It is incredibly robust, you can jump up and down on it without effect, i've dropped it, kicked it repeatedly in and out of distortion and it will not break.

The most brilliant sounding and versatile pedal i have ever played. Boss are a renouned manufacturer but they have surpassed themselves here.

I bought this used on ebay for around $60. I needed a much better distortion pedal than the one I had, and I heard good things about it, so I took a gamble and just went ahead and bought it.

Wow. Everyone was right about this that told me it was awsome. It has a 4 band EQ which is more than most pedals, esp. in this price range. Loads of distortion! Very versatile - I could get a light warm bluesy sound, to a new metalist's dream, to a total shred. Not easily hurt either. It is very simple and easy to use.

When I first got this, I was amazed. I thought it could do anything. But after a long time of use, the bass sounded like crap, and the volume was cutting out. Of course, that's probably just b/c I don't know how much it was used before I bought it... But other than the fact that it didn't last forever... it's great (I suppose I could get it fixed...).

This is made by Boss, and they make their pedals tough. I bet you could drive over it with your car and it would work just like it did before you decided to do something so stupid. Actually, I was thinking about throwing out my window to prove how tough it is. I bet my friends with thier crappy Digitech stuff wouldn't ever try that...

Bottom line is: If you are looking for a better distortion than what you got, give this a try. It should give you everything you need and a little more. No wonder so many people use this pedal (I heard some now famous bands used to use this back in the day... well, I perform and it's good enough for me though.) Great Pedal.

I got this bad boy at a local music shop (Axe music) for about $120

i really like the versatility. I mean i play in a punk band and i can get out the ronchy sound i want and still get that "air sucked out of the room" distortion when im playin my metallica.

i dont like the fact that it runs through batteries like a mother fucker and that it doesnt come with a adapter and that u have to buy one for $50

holy shit dont get me started!...this thing is a mother fuckin tank!...it is indestructable!

if u dont buy this after this review...im gonna have to smack u in the face with a phonebook.

Bought this evil bastard on a local shop for about 100$. I chose Metal Zone after fooling around trying different distortion units in the shop, this one made my choice easy.

    With 4 separate tuning knobs, you can get every possible distortion you can emagine;
From soft blues to raw death metal. And the sound quality is awesome, but I recommend using it together with an equalizer (I use Boss GE-7) With the right settings, you'll be able to blow out walls with this combination.

    Dont have much to say here, just one thing;
without an equalizer/noise reducer it may cause alot of hiss (if you play loud) But I have both equalizer and n.r, so thats not a problem for me.

Boss - like everyone says. Its build to be in war or something. I guess nothing can destroy a Boss stomp, i wouldnt be surprised if it survived a nuke as well ;)

I can highly recommend this to anyone into any sort of distorted music. METAL zone yes, but playing brit-pop with this ain't a problem..

Get this one and combine it with an equalizer, and you will be armed and dangerous!!

I bought this baby at guitar center for 90 bucks. Best purchase ive ever made for my guitar besides an emg81.

Where do i start! First of all the distortion is a thick, creamy studo-style distortion that is so clean that you would think i had a wall of tube amps. Its amazing for a heavy metal or heavy punk rythm, or for a ferocious solo. Is such a lively clean clear crisp distortion that it almost gets me aroused.

    Not a thing! It rocks

Top notch construction, anything boss is good and this is no exeption, ive had it for about six months ad played tons of gigs and practices and it has so much as a scratch on it.

I aquired this pedal at Long & Mquaide and have loved it. I paid an insane amount of $120

I love the great sound and built in EQ. You can get that great metal sound or that alternative crunch no matter what you are set with this pedal

Price!!!!!!That's the only thing, it also burns through batteries

Great quality solid as a rock with it's medal case.

Great for any type of music from a slight overdrive to totally insane

i bought this pedal from sam ash music store in columbus. I paid $89.99 or it and $21 for the adaptor

I play in a hard rock band, and this pedal is exactly what I was looking for. It's loud, and it has great sustain and power. The pedal also has onboard EQ with allows you too turn up your lows or highs, and this is very helpful. The manual includes some settings for different kinds of distortion, which is very helpful. This pedal is very capable of giving bonecrushing hard distortion, or some light overdrive. It's pretty versatile, but it's forte is loud, heavy music.

There's nothing i really didn't like about this pedal. I do get quite a bit of feedback when playing loud, but this could be b/c i lay through a crappy PA. But even on my small practice amp i get some. I have a seymour duncan dimebucker and a DiMarzio Tonezone in my guitar and i still get quite a bit of feedback. But muting the strings when not playing solves this. Also, don't turn your lows up to high or you will get kind of a rumble sound when playing.

i could run over this pedal with a car and it would still work great. it's small and compact, and very well made.

This is the only distortion pedal you will ever need. I highly recommend this

I bought this pedal from a friend for 40 bucks. Great deal, because it was in perfect condition and it had box and instructions.

It has some serious gain! The distortion has this real metalic sound to it, that is perfect for heavy metal solos. I also like the unit's useability. The knobs are real easy, and the pedal even comes with some sample settings for it (heavy metal, british rock, fuzz, ect.) However the fuzz setting doesn't really sound like fuzz.

I wish that a sort of calmer setting came with the pedal. Don't get me wrong, I love the enormous gain, but I also wish that it has some cleaner tones. I can't complain too much thoush, because a distortion pedal isn't exactly desi…

It's as hard as a rock. Believe me, Boss makes the best-quality stomp boxes around. Don't buy that danelectro crap.

I would really reccomend this pedal for anyone whom wants a snarling solo. This pedal is designed to blow the audiences' mind, so don't buy this if your attempting to use it for soft rock.

I bought this pedal about a week back (brand new) for about 115 bucks at Walters music store in Toronto.

I purchased it because I recently bought a Fender Hotrod Deville and was looking for a better metal sound that I could customize.

So many variables... This pedal sounds great on my amp and has many different options so you can create your own sound.

From Fuzz to Heavy Metal this pedal does it all.

The only thing I don't like about the unit is that it SUCKS UP batteries.

    Solution: Use an adaptor

    Like all Boss pedals... Invincible.

This pedal can take a beating.

Great quality. BOSS is the master of quality. This distortion unit can model almost any kind of distortion that you could ever need or want. And it's a tough pedal, it can take time and abuse. And since this pedal is from BOSS, you know the distortion effect quality is top-of-the line. Sometimes, when I play, I think it sounds just about studio quality. Great distortion pedal all around.
