Hi Fi Flanger

Boss HF-2 Hi Band FlangerPublished on 07/19/11 at 17:42
The is a flanger pedal introduced by Boss to tackle the hi fi sound of the flanger effect. This pedal gets to the higher frequencies of the flanger sound. you can definitely get the jumbo jet flanger sound but the tone of the guitar with be more audible with this pedal. This pedal allows the guitar's natural voice to come through better where as the regular Boss flanger would swallow up the guitar tone more. I would prefer this pedal over the regular one if I just needed a simple and mild flanger tone. this pedal is a magical pedal and sounds great in front of a distorted amp.

SOUND QUALITY

I really like the tone of this pedal. It has the right frequencies in it that make it a little more appealing to me and my tone. It leaves room for the guitar to breath and come through the mix. It doesn't cloud the tone up like a lot of flangers will do naturally.

I prefer this pedal out on the front of the amp. I don't like hearing flangers in the effects loop or behind the distortion. I am a fan of Eddie Van Halen and to get the tone he had you need it out in front. So growing up listening to those records i generally favor that setup because that is what my ears are used to hearing. Having it it behind the distortion will make the effect more out front in the mix and not apart of the tone as it would in front of the amp or distortion pedal.

OVERALL OPINION

This pedal had a good run but it ended in 1995. It seems a lot of Boss pedals ended in this year. you can find them on the classifieds or the used market somewhere for a good price. I generally see them for about $80 to %100. That is a little more than I see the regular go for. This is a great pedal and nice addition to anyone's floor board.

Flanger pedal.

Typical Boss features: analog,

rugged, easy to use, etc.

UTILIZATION

It's pretty easy to use and it's made so you can fool around with the settings... Just try it and have fun.

SOUND QUALITY

Its sound is more "liquid" and "chorused" than the BF2.

The overall quality is very good. It's supple and will easily find it's place in the sound. You can almost create a chorus effect with a very slow speed setting. On the contrary, you'll get a "leslie" sound with a high speed setting.

The effect undulates and gives you a wide overall sound.

The effect undulates and gives you a wide overall sound.

The only thing I can criticize is that the effect could be a bit more intense. Sometimes I would like to get an extreme flanger but it's virtually impossible. This beast is too kind! But it's good for all sorts of applications as long as you don't want any extreme effects!

OVERALL OPINION

It's a good flanger pedal and it also offers a chorus-like color which is a good alternative to the classic swirling sound.
It doesn't sound as dry as the BF2.

Very good pedal.

For your information, you can change the op. amp to turn it into a BF2!

Analog effect pedals oprant mono.
This is a flanger on oprant frquences acute, we can not say that this is the most versatile flanger or better suited to find the sound of machine or something. Nanmoins can achieve an effect or something rather traditional and DLIR mconnaissable (like a lot of pedals by putting all the knobs back)

UTILIZATION

Trs rgler simple to use for speed and depth of the effect.
rsonance the filter is more complicated to understand your exact but the sound is IMMEDIATE sensitive and allows for original sounds.
the action of the manual knob is much more difficult to identify (personally I do not play much on it)

the action of the manual knob is much more difficult to identify (personally I do not play much on it)

SOUND QUALITY

It's a really nice pedals because it allows both to obtain a fairly classic flanger effect and stuff really DLIR playing on the depth and rsonnance. The fact that it plays mainly on the acute part of the spectrum because it makes trs trs well distortion (unless you play on a seven-string, doing only the power chords and knows how to be more discrete you in the clear (which can be an advantage for a flanger, the same kind of effect when difficult fit)

OVERALL OPINION

Trs a good investment for its versatile and its personality and its reasonable price and on occasion (especially for a fact that a priori does not everywhere). The sound quality is really to go into distortion if you like and do anything on the pedals of rsonance knob is for you. I do not deprecated that those who seek the sound of classic flanger sound like machine or something even if it is capable of a dlivrer sound pretty basic.
