Peavey Vypyr Tube 120

This is an instant classic for Peavey amplifiers. This amp is just a great sounding low priced amp that will crank out some high gain tones and clean up real nice. This amp is exactly the same as the 60 watt version but with double the wattage power, one extra 1x12 speaker, and two extra power tubes. You will have two more extra power tubes which are 6L6's and that is basically it.

What a killer little practice amp! This amp has a very good tone for being an amp modeler and enough features that will having you playing for hours. You actually might be spending too much time tweaking then actually playing so this could be a bad thing. Either way this is a nice bang for your buck all around effects and amp modeling amp.

SOUNDS

This is an all encompassing amp that you only need a guitar and cable and you are set. It is a nice amp for those starting out playing on the the electric guitar and mom or dad don't want to shell out too much money just yet.

Compared to the solid state Vypyr series this amp has a lot more dynamic range and punch to the tone. Not a bad or good thing just a personal taste thing. The tone has more girth and tube feel obviously with the added power tubes.

I like this amp with a humbucking pickup style guitar. Since this amp is sort of modeled after some of Peavey's more high gain amps it is only fitting to play it with a guitar that can cut some of the hum and noise out. Plus the increase of gain with the humbuckers is essential when playing in the XXX mode of this amp.

OVERALL OPINION

At new these amps come in at around $650, which is a steal if you ask me. For what you get and the options to explore this amp is just killer for the price. You couldn't find a better sounding amp or something even close to the price of this amp. Peavey are masters at keeping decent enough tone in a rather nice price point.

I highly recommend this amp to anyone thinking of getting a practice amp and doesn't want to shell out a ton of money to get. Just need a cable and guitar and you will be good to go. Personally unless you are gigging with this amp there really isn't a need for the extra 60 watts so if you are buying this for practicing at home or giving it to a beginner player than the 60 watt version will suffice.

Power level is 120 watts RMS, it is not true 120 watt lamps you can grow up to half without becoming dull, but it grows more than enough for large rehearsals or small / medium scenes.

UTILIZATION

The manual is pretty clear and so for most amps it is useless there is a must seen the beast, but as it is very clear, do not worry.
You can adjust many parameters that can be seen for the simulation effects etc. but it's actually quite easy.
Buttons eq for simulation are used to adjust the effect parameters when you're in edit mode on the effects, moving from one mode (editing or not) by pressing the knobs, in the end it is rather simple and you take the shot quickly.
One detail that has the master works and you can play at low volume with a sound quality that gives pleasure.

SOUNDS

The sound is really good, a real tube sound with the variety offered by the models, I really like.
I never played the original versions but clean and crunch Fender are mortal, the Plexi and the JSX really great.

Analog modulation effects are great, really soft, warm, chorus, flanger, phaser I love it!

The fuzz, the boost and the dislodged tube screamer, the octave, tremolo, whammy are very very nice.

on the other hand to fully exploit the effects of the Sanpera II is indispesable and given its price this is a problem.
With Sanpera I can use the looper and navigate between programs, with Sanpera II can enable / disable each effect of the selected application program, I personally believe that to use live is almost essential ( this is particularly why I separated this amp).

Sound level a big disappointment for me are against by the High Gain models, I think they really miss potato, aggression and precision I find distos are clearly not to my taste, and there is a breath crazy it is a shame even if using a Boss Metalcore I had a huge sound!
But using a distortion pedal with an amp in which there are about twenty ...

OVERALL OPINION

I used a little over a year and I loved this amp, I have not had dozens but this is the best sounding clean / crunch as I could have.
Ultimately surprisingly enough it is rather an amp for lovers of vintage sounds, the modulation effects are also quite in mind.
A very good amp with a real tube sound, the big metal fans may be disappointed, however, as I was, but it may be a matter of taste, youtube will help you get an idea this level.
The need for the Sanpera II for greater flexibility of use is also a problem, but money so if you have the means, do not worry.
Finally the main flaw 30kg.
One handle on top to catch it, is misery to carry and this is mainly why I am separated.
If I have the opportunity to meet the head format with Sanpera II for a fair price I throw myself over with a speaker in the V30 High Gain distos could dépoter.

configuration is simple, the manual is clear and well detailed with all the options this amp.
we obtain easily a good sound whether clean or distortion.

SOUNDS

I play metal but sometimes I play things softer.
this amp can play all styles, it is biensur predisposed to metal and rock but all models are very good and he can address all kinds, rock, metal, jazz, blues, clean ...

seen the style that I play I prefer the distos, models of Peavey 6505, Mesa, xxx, jsx are really convincing.

I play with a dk2l jackson, dean ml 79, schecter omen 7, guitars for what metalheads.

OVERALL OPINION

I used it two years, sold it to buy a 6505 + head peveay.
I had the opportunity to test the line 6 which are known to be good at modeling, and the peavey is well ahead, the lights give a warm, not synthetic.

for me this amp is the best market in the category modeling / hybrid.

it has an exellent value for money, I would do without hesitation that choice
