Strat alder body, 24 fret ebony neck, hot but not steril pups, good floating bridge, and believe it or not I wanted it painted white. It's all the truth. I'm glad it wasn't named a vai guitar or anything similar because I just couldn't buy it then. Truth be told the only thing I have a problem with is the "monkey grip". That just takes away from the wood for no good reason IMO.

I already explained this however this guitar can with a proper setup can have awesome action (no matter how silly you want to go in either direction), tone, and playability. A lot of this guitar is in the neck (and trem if you're a wanker ;]).

    Again, monkey grip.

This is your high end guitar. There's only so many words that can explain it if you've never experienced one.

From what I've heard don't expect great customer service from Ibanez although I must say I've never had to find out myself. I've always delt with my local shop for wiring and major stuff.

I got it on a special day from Music123.
Got it because my old guitar was poo.
It was paid about 1800 USD for it.

The list goes on about the Jem. To start this endless list, I'll first say the neck.
The neck is great, fast. It uses Ibanez's JEM neck, and is thin, which is good.
The output jack is at a location so that you just put it through the guitar strap, and then slip it in. It's at the bottom of the guitar just to the right of the strap knob.
The H-S-H is a great setup. The DiMarzio Evolutions have great tone. So hot they burn to touch! The single coil has a good tone (not sure what kind of pickup it is, but it's DiMarzio).

I love the monkey grip =D (the hand grip at the top of the guitar body)
I love the floating bridge system in conjuction with a locking nut. It's great. And the way the whammy bar goes in, you just push it in, now screwing it.
Has nice looking gold hardware. And the vine is great looking. (not shiny, but not dull)
Extremely nice tone. Get a lot of different sounds.
I think I might take up two pages if I keep this up...anywho...
The 21-24 are scalloped. Doesn't hinder any shred (or mine atleast), yet the vibrato come out well on it.

The single coil could've been shielded better. And the action could've been set better. But you can shield it pretty well and easily, and take it to the shop and get action set pretty low. It'd be cool to have two different tone knobs and two different volume knobs some times.

It was constructed very well and the quality is of great quality =D Only thing they missed was a string was off tune by a few cents and the action was kinda high.

Very excellent guitar. Very nice features. Great sound. Great feel. And, to top it all off, Steve Vai uses this exact guitar (or atleast his own JEM7VWH named "Evo").

The guitar is beatiful. I'd be playing it right now if I weren't typing this review.

I am fortunate to possder 2 Indeed, a "rcente" of 2007 and a "vintage" of 1993.
The 1993 is my main guitar live.

The '93 has a few Difference compared to today.
The handle is in one pice saddle and the key is a beautiful dark wood bne.
There is also a big polmique dtail on this, some argue that the old key with bne are better than the new key with rosewood.
Trs honntement, I hear absolutely no difference between the two.
But I agree with lovers bne because I do not understand that for a guitar so beautiful, a ct of basswood Ibanez covers in order to have a pure white, but on the other c t they ask the beautiful tree of life inlay on a rosewood button.

But I agree with lovers bne because I do not understand that for a guitar so beautiful, a ct of basswood Ibanez covers in order to have a pure white, but on the other c t they ask the beautiful tree of life inlay on a rosewood button.
I am a designer and it dtail trs important that I find on this guitar, it sounds worse or better, I know I hear a diffrence, but as I find the tree of life on the beautiful bne very dark, as a key rosewood I think it's ugly limit.

Micro evo of the bridge have also changed it seems.
I read quite often that Steve Vai had to change the bridge humbucker because it was the output level too lev. O In the second version of the Evo 2 Humbucker in 2004.
Bin plutt is weird but comparing my two trs JEM is that it is the new net which has the largest potato-level sound. So does my old micro fatigus are, I do not know.
On micro I draw attention to a problem not emphasized enough in my opinion, it's HUGE Difference in output level between the humbucker and single coil. The diffrence is really important and not look like much is really a shame because can not switch between single / Humber in one piece without even Whereas a loss in volume.

Apart from these dtails are strictly same shovels. The sleeves have a feeling exactly the same (I do not think the '93 have a sticky finish more than the other as like the rumor).

The violin is no default, requires Fujigen quality, micro DiMarzio Evo trs are versatile and have a big, big potato trs, it can also violate the easel, np, ca agreement will remain properly !

    UTILIZATION

It's not my Premire Ibanez and I quickly used to the handle trs flat, broad and typical end Ibanez.
It is enjoyable and trs dconcertant of easy to play solo, riff, etc. arpges.
For cons I take this opportunity to break up the legends "over the neck is thin and flat better" because it is as much a super enjoyable guitar solo by lead and, as if you ever need to do the rhythm / agreements prparez you morfler ..
With this scratch I start to understand the purpose of the sleeves composed radius.
The handle of the JEM is highly uncomfortable to play chords on Premire box, honest I sometimes have to accompany other guitarists and every time it is the horror I hurt all over hand in less than 30 seconds.
So that's something important trs Whereas before purchase.

But other than that, with the AANJ (all access neck joint) handle large cargo and hollow while the 21-24 is an orgasm vritable to play the high notes with such ease.

Level weight must mfier, it is not unlike the majority of basswood JEM and is therefore heavier she looks. My '93 is just over 3.4kg, which is of the same dj monsters away from Gibson.
I have some heavy guitars plutt with which I can not play standing up too long with my JEM no worries, I play 2 4 hours non stop.

If we have the fast knob volume constant of 10, where the saturation is natural adj microphones, one can get without too much problem trs a good sound.

    SOUNDS

Well I'm not a huge fan of Steve Vai but when you have this guitar in the hands of a few hours it becomes clear that he'll be really done everything possible to get almost exactly the same sound as Steve Vai.
She really a characters own this guitar and Steve Vai really great exploit Russia.
So that's where you ask yourself the question again, yes we can really make this guitar with Steve Vai lol.

Then look despite its typical metal, one would expect good distortion but clean blah blah ... And yet ...
The clean sound of this guitar are just sublime and configuration of the switch allows a versatile excellent.
Position 1 and 5 was really a "full", full, rich, clean and hot typs Humbucker Gibson Les Paul (without really grain, evo is "cleaner", more "modern") and 2,3-4 and was this time sounds trs Fender Start, tantt bluesy, funky, bright well for the country ...
On mine I install a miniswicth that allows me to play only with split humbuckers (which you can not do under normal circumstances), and I really dynamic compression of a neck pickup of strato plans for the Gilmour or SRV, and sounds brilliant trs / pops when easel.

If this guitar is my main shovel in my group today is that I find very practical since it allows me to have tantt nice clean sound for arpges, sounds funky to the rhythm and big humbucker sound for distortion. It m'vite really take to have a Start and a Les Paul.
Please note I do not say it sounds better, nothing worth a grain of Gibson and the dynamics of a Fender, but the JEM is an excellent compromise to make the shovel scne without changing every 5 minutes .

There's really only one thing noise that I can blame this guitar is the lack of "grain" of distortion / crunch sound but hey it's clean and modern Ibanez.

    OVERALL OPINION

I last year and played with all the RPTES / concerts since.

I had over 30 guitars in the hands of which 4 or 5 Ibanez and even if I prfre grain / personality the greater the Fender / Gibson I've always loved playing on the Ibanez sleeves.

JEM is truly my '93 I love my prfr jouabilit his neck for solos, the versatile sound, weight lightweight .. and of course her beauty!
For me its a round black spots are uncomfortable for the rhythm, not a personality but Submitted trs brand, the long and tedious rglages the floating bridge.

I had normment guitars and this one is by far the most convenient and most flexible of all. It's perfect my group or I have to play a large number of musical styles. It really is THE guitar to have at home when you love music gnral and therefore full of DIFFERENT kinds trs.

One last advice I give is to try to intresss ct of the OCCAZ and because international prices in France are absolutely outrageous compared to other countries .. I found my 1000th 1993 in Japan and I had the chance to go through customs charges ahahah.

    UTILIZATION

The drive tones are great. Harmonics and overtones just leap from the guitar and it has eons of sustain and a great lead voicing that lends itself well to whatever technique you throw at it, whether it's alternate picking, sweep arpeggios, tapping, etc, it'll do it and do it well. If you are still a burgeoning player it will help you to really want to improve with its great playability and awesome lead tones.

    SOUNDS

The neck is really very good or excellent.
After several hours playing with this stick, I put it at Washburn N4 those who are also fantastic. The ergonomics are excellent, the weight too is a light guitar and well balanced.
The access is easy to acute. This gives a great sound, or rather sounds excellent with a wide range, namely that the 5 positions offer as many sounds. I will not detail everything that would be too long! Because this guitar is extremely versatile and offers such versatility that can play everything. Let me be very clear, it is indeed a signature guitar, but most do not focus on it, this guitar sounds very tender round and warm with these double, middle sounds very typical Fender Start.

    OVERALL OPINION

Overall, I think the Ibanez Steve Fai series is a down right solid piece of equipment, they are pretty hard to find now adays though. I found some online a few months back but the price was too high for my liking. I am thinking about purchasing another one of these just to keep around the studio for anyone who wants to start jamming.

    UTILIZATION

This guitar was made just for Steve Vai, so that he could employ all the crazy guitar gymnastics he knows how to do, yet as easily and efficiently as possible. And to that end, it is a winner. It is fantastically easy to play, with sublime fretwork, neck carve, 4 scalloped frets, tremolo setup, cutaways, and pickup arrangement. It is well balanced, and the Edge tremolo system allows for some extreme bar techniques.

    SOUNDS

This guitar sounds very driving, bright, crisp, aggressive, tender, singing, smooth, warm, spanky, funky, clear, all at the same time. Basically, it is designed to bring maximum accuracy to the amplifer of exactly what your fingers are doing. Its versatility allows it to succeed in utterly all styles of music, in any type of setting.

    OVERALL OPINION

The only way this guitar can hold you back is by its appearance. By that, I mean, there are some bands, venues, and audiences that you probably couldn't get away with playing a guitar that looks like this. This model in particular is one of the classier, more generally socially acceptable models, with the nice white body, gold hardware, and vine inlay. But that build-in handle can certainly garner a lot of askance looks from onlookers. If you can get around the monkey grip, the guitar will do everything you ask from it.

good if the handle and also hyper rev flat end (ibanez emphasizes particularity by Mr. Vai)
violin making is a matter of taste as the original given to me personally she melts and every time I see it I find more beautiful ^ ^.

    UTILIZATION

As I said above: a wonder!
the handle is a fluidity dconcertante, even the famous Vigier Excalibur does not happen at the ankle!
keys scallops aid when the song requires to meet the acute (finger does not catch and has no need to BEUT like a cow to make people!)
Otherwise Access in acute is obviously more than excelente (thank you Ibanez)
For the floyd, you can sit on it or jump in with both feet ca not move! (Molo finally go ahead even though you might get hurt ^ ^). good on the other hand if it moves it is evident from the pa-rgler am even early APRS but it's all cooked. Otherwise it is sensitive and trs makes it easy to vary the sound.
the guitar is rather light for my taste (comparing vigier or other Ibanez RG shape anyway) so it makes a good game, both sitting and standing.
Microphones for a 5 position selector classic, nothing to say about this one is simple.
euuuuuuuuu else to say ... that she is so perfect .. oh yes for large maniacs of violin is not a protected s'inquiter plate (white plate with reflection like marble), although the patent maintenance the stroke, the dore therefore does not oxidize okay.
And for those who are afraid of dco "tree of life" on the handle they no longer had to worry not only because you get used to rev faster but anyway there are rep res classical (point of what) on top of the handle (like how many scratches).

    SOUNDS

Then we recognize the ba ....... trs well steve vai. its a very easy to handle and control.
The three DiMarzio allow incredible versatility, it all just jou on this guitar, jazz, blues to big fat Bourin hard rock, metal to funk and pop. the 5-way switch allows indeed much of its DIFFERENT. micro, them, allow a quality of its beautiful plain is not getting a good deep sound soft and velvety Crystaline disto a good grip, good agressivit (depending on the amp you can have a well fatty wish, you just go micro follow!)
(For the harmonics that are so easy it almost all alone ^ ^ thanks to the handle.)
So basically for the sound ba ... you do everything and just have a great quality sound for all that you want to play (jlui to be little point in more distortion because the microphone hangs really well hyper pass without a single parasite!)

    OVERALL OPINION

I have my jewel reu one month APRS have control, it's going to do more than a year that I play with, and all the guitars I've tried (a 2500 gibson , Vigier Excalibur, Jackson 2000, 120 ^ ^ squier has a multitude of other ibanez and fender, and even an SRP of around 3000!) and ba ever, but then never even thought I could I was one second of my jem7v spar. it's really a beautiful guitar every point, many thanks to Ibanez Steve Vai and Mr allowing me to possder as a guitar, it really is a machine gnial.
Good on the other hand ........... There's also the price ..... and yeah the dream could not be perfect all the way! and yet ...! unlike some people I'm pa party in the United States or Japan or Germany or whatever country in which trang for my guitar, I stayed in my little France, a cot for me in the shop ... but the closest I have bought "only" 1900 because it's true that 2300 was a little annoyed ca. So 400 less is ngligeable pa ... why I just did march the Competition, Do not hesitate to do so crach trade because it is possible even in France! !
For-I repeat what I'd choose ???........ PRSA pay a high price for this guitar!! of course that I refer without an ounce of hsitation!

    OVERALL OPINION

    I just buy it
it is a guitar that is primarily a beauty to kill, it is not complicated in design, not too much just enough frills.
when Ibanez had to present it first to Mr. Vai, I have to please her reaction.
This guitar is just above the other, the sound is still incredible. With distortion found this feature where you get the impression that the guitar is sounding.
Value, in France it is a scam! Tip: I did as a member of Audiofanzine above, ie the United States by buying Ebay is € 1,660, € 2,260 better than, that's the margin.
    so do it again, now!

for its clear as the pickups are very powerful even in inter position you tend to have too much midrange and treble equalizer must therefore removing the max of medium and quite a sharp and add bass and play the fender or marshall engl.
for the saturation is not a problem it will fit any amps but I think it sounds better on Marshall Mesa to avoid even if c a great brand.

    OVERALL OPINION

I wrote this opinion for the jem 7vwh fan, let me explain:
I have 12 years! which means that I have the FIRST MODEL OF THE JEM 7VWH
AND I IS SAYING THAT THIS MODEL HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MODELS TEAM J CRAFT that I have become an ebony fingerboard on mine while on recent models is the key rosewood and thinner, which makes all the difference! I can affirm to have recently purchased a second JEM and the difference between the two is huge!
if you look closely VAI uses these scenes on old models (EVO, FLO, etc) ... with this famous ebony fingerboard makes the sound richer and more singing.
so I sold it without hesitation that the recent model from the mine is the m. ..
Too bad the old version is no longer marketed, ebony COST you it too expensive?

    A real JEM

    Ibanez JEM7V PrestigePublished on 08/14/11 at 07:31
The Ibanez JEM is a guitar designed by/for legendary guitar virtuoso Steve Vai back in 1987. This particular guitar came about in the mid nineties as a classier take on the florescent JEMs that ruled the scene during the eighties and early nineties. It features an alder body, a maple neck with either a rosewood or ebony fretboard (depending on the year, I believe post 2002 is rosewood for this model), 24 frets with the last four scalloped, a unique vine inlay, Ibanez tuners, an Edge Ibanez locking tremolo, and DiMarzio Evolution signature pickups made for Vai by Larry and co at DiMarzio. It's rounded off with a volume/tone control set and a 5 way selector.

It's rounded off with a volume/tone control set and a 5 way selector.

    UTILIZATION

The JEM is possibly one of the most ergonomic guitars I've seen. Steve likes to really have a guitar that moves with him and this is a prime example. The alder body is light, and even offers the famed "monkey grip" if you want to swing it around a bit. It has a fairly thin neck which is great for people who want something ideal for shredding. The upper fret access is as good as it gets on these guitars... Steve designed it to near perfection and it shows... getting to 24 and even above that is absolutely no issue with this guitar!

Getting a good tone out of this instrument is not an issue really. It was designed to be a bit more versatile than the typical Ibanez RG, which is known as a very high output shred machine. The Evolution pickups are high output but offer a good range of tones from clean to mean overall.

    SOUNDS

This guitar is great for a multitude of things I find. Sure it's meant to excel at high gain lead applications, but for the price it costs I would hope it would do some other tones well. The clean sounds are pretty good. The EVO pickups are a little bit too hot for pristine vintage style cleans, but you can get a nice facsimile by using either position 2 or 4 on the selector switch which provides a nice out of phase quack. The humbuckers sound good clean, but are a little bit flat sounding for my tastes (a common complaint I have with Ibby cleans).

    OVERALL OPINION

All in all I think the Ibanez JEM is a great guitar for anyone looking for a great lead guitar that is designed to be a no compromises sort of instrument, perfect for an aspiring Steve Vai. At $2,750 new, it's pretty expensive and not something I would ever buy (I bought a Suhr Custom Modern built to my specs for less than $200 more) but if you're a Vai fan and have the dosh, it's well worth considering. The feel is there and the tones are there, so now you just need the 10,000 hours of practice and you'll be the next Vai... maybe.

    UTILIZATION

We have already said everything on the neck and extraordinary ergonomics. What is here is daring the replacement of the microphones. I bought this gem on Ebay for a Japanese (European award requires huge!) Having really afraid of the result of changes (microphones, Floyd, exchange of sleeve). I received it yesterday and after 30 seconds connected (though I have a Marshall DFX 30) I was reassured, amazed.
In the aesthetic point of view it is also a success for my taste (blue, white and ebony).

    SOUNDS

This config. microphones leads to a versatility that I had never heard or imagined. Floyd and the "original" unperturbed stable and clear ... The sound on the APH-1N and velvety souhait.Le fiat SSL-5 with a perfect transition will Dimarzio.Je m'enquerrir an amp and all over péstigieux lamp mérité.Franchement well I was lucky to find this custom, I still can not believe it! I must say it has not dragged more than half a day on the net I was quick on this one and hope to become as much on the handle ...

    OVERALL OPINION

The Jem is truly a guitar extraordinaire.Celle it is no longer the only W + SBL + Dimarzio pickups with Duncan and Duncan + icing on the cake: a real Floyd métal.Promis true of a picture I made I ... introduce you bunch of jealous.

One of the most famous JEMs

    Ibanez JEM7V PrestigePublished on 07/07/11 at 20:22
Steve Vai has been a long time endorser of Ibanez products. In fact, I think he is the longest running endorser, but I'm not entirely sure. This guitar is probably his most iconic one as he's had it for years and years. It's gone through different changes throughout the years, but they generally have similar specs. The guitar has an alder body with a five piece maple/bubinga neck, rosewood fretboard with 24 frets, special vine inlay, unique handle carved out in it, an Ibanez Edge Pro tremolo, last few frets scalloped, HSH configuration, all access neck joint, one volume, one tone and a five way switch.

    UTILIZATION

This guitar is built pretty awesome. I'm a huge fan of the Prestige lineup by Ibanez guitars. First of all, the fretwork on this is top notch. I was able to achieve sickly low action without any issues at all. The neck is a touch thicker than the normal Prestige Wizard, and that's a good or bad thing, depending on who you are. The edges on the frets also felt very nice. The inlay work was cleanly done, and there weren't any annoying fillers. The neck joint on this is to die for. It makes it crazy easy to get up to the higher frets, and the last few scalloped frets add some additional grip for bending.

    SOUNDS

Some people find this guitar a touch bright. It's true that it's bright, but I find it to be bright in a musical way. The Evo bridge pickup is crazy powerful. You can get all kinds of awesome pick squeals going on, and harmonics jump out like no tomorrow. The Evo neck is a bit bright for me, but by rolling down the tone knob a bit, I can get that fatter lead tone I usually desire. In between positions sound wonderful as always. It's almost like having a strat kind of sound.

    OVERALL OPINION

If you're looking for a JEM, this'll probably be the number one guitar you'll be looking at. The guitar is great in every sense of the way, and if you buy used, you'll save tons of money. I highly recommend looking into these, especially if you're not a huge fan of the standard basswood that Ibanez likes to utilize in most of their guitars.

    UTILIZATION

The handle is nice but needs time to adapt by what it is wide, but once accustomed, it is very interesting, especially if you want to go play in the plans .. Vai. Do not lose sight, it seems, this is a signature guitar and not just any.

The ergonomics are perfect, everything about this guitar is designed to facilitate the game

It gets all the sounds you want, again, is in the Vai guitar, it suffices to know the record of this artist to know that his guitar is capable of making almost all the sounds that one asks an electric guitar. This guitar delivers the sound you want, depending on pickups selected, setting the tone. He is obviously having an amplification performance, plugged into a Bogner is the dream, anything is possible. For me, it's a guitar studio that wants to have maximum versatility.

    SOUNDS

Obtained the right sound was the question that was asked just before.

So yes, I get all the sounds I want.

I mainly branch in a Bogner Alchemist is the perfect blend that allows the guitar to express its enormous potential.

I do not hate anything in this guitar, no regrets or anything.

    OVERALL OPINION

I use this guitar for two years, but I had one before, so my experience JEM not date from yesterday, I am the true superstrate that exceeds all others that I I have tried.

I tried many other models and owned and played many other guitars (Ton Anderson ....)

Superstrate is true, the most powerful.

Everything is ok in this guitar.

Only the value for money leaves a bit to be desired, Ibanez made to pay dearly for their "signature" Made In Japan.

It's a shame. I therefore give 9 as Excellent, but not for Perfect 10, because the price is still a bit high.

That said, there are in the range of Ibanez RG Jem very close to this that are sold at prices much lower, failing to buy a new or used Jem, do not hesitate to seek this path.

IBAN rest masterfully demonstrates great skill in making modern guitar.

The other thing I appreciate tremendously from Ibanez is the stability of their string instruments. I've never encountered any problem violin whatever the terms of use, transportation, storage, it's very serious, their wood is ok, it's still nice, it matters because I had some heartbreaking experiences with other brands.

I of course do it again this election, a Start, a Tele, a Jaguar, a Gibson LP, a superstrate Ibanez and with such a team ....

    What happiness!
