BBE Sonic Maximizer 882i

The BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer is priced at a very low point for how great it will turn your sound around. I have got an extremely clean sound while using the 882i, it leaves +23dBu for headroom and has balanced outputs (active). The unit can be racked though I didn’t have more rack space for it so I just left it sitting off to the side. If you need a Maximizer to put the final touch to your complete mix, then the 882i is exactly what you need, and for only around 250 and even less than that used, you really cant go wrong.


UTILIZATION

Getting started is very simple with the Sonic Maximizer 882i, and the manual is very easy to understand. The unit is pretty easy to understand on your own though without the need for the book. There are only a total of 4 knobs on the front of the unit and each are labeled. On the back of the unit there are outputs and inputs Channel A/ Channel B.


SOUND QUALITY

I have used the BBE 882i to get a complete sound on all of my instruments and whole projects. There are many different software’s in DAW’s that can almost do the same thing as the 882i but I prefer to stick with hardware. I have been using this device for a while now and if its not broke then don’t fix it. I am very comfortable using it.


OVERALL OPINION

The BBE 882i is very well built and well made. The sound quality that it produces is second to none and for the price it could be the best Maximizer available. I have used several different similar products but this is the first one from BBE that I have used. I am now looking into a newer version of a Maximizer with more inputs. I recommend using this to put the final touches on your mixes. You will hear the difference.

The BBE Sonic Maximizer 882i is a dual channel exciter, also known as a sound enhancer. What it does is that it will boost up the high end frequencies in a signal to make it sound more “alive” and vibrant. I’m not sure what type of connections the BBE Sonic Maximizer 882i has as the one I used is pre-racked, but it is a rack mountable piece of gear that will only take up a single rack space unit.

UTILIZATION

The set up of the BBE Sonic Maximizer 882i is very easy to follow, as each channel only has two knobs and a section for metering. The parameters that each channel has are for process, which is the exciter portion of the unit, as well as a knob for lo contour, which boosts the low end in the signal and is there to balance out the level after using the process knob. There is also a bypass switch in the middle of the two channels. I don’t have a manual for the BBE Sonic Maximizer 882i, but it is very simple to use and a manual isn’t needed.

SOUND QUALITY

The sound quality of the BBE Sonic Maximizer 882i is very good, especially when compared to some of the other models of the Sonic Maximizer. While I don’t use this all the time, when I do use it I find that I am happy with my results. I’ve used it on a number of different applications including vocals, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and drum overheads. In some cases I’ve even used it on single drums like snare drum, tom tom drums, and kick drum.

OVERALL OPINION

I’ve been using the BBE Sonic Maximizer 882i for about two years and it is probably the best model of the Sonic Maximizer out there that I have used. While I prefer the plug-in version of this model because it is more convenient to use since I don’t use it that much, the BBE Sonic Maximizer 882i sounds great and is certainly a unique type of outboard gear. The price of the BBE Sonic Maximizer 882i isn’t too expensive, but I really would recommend the plug-in version over this one unless you feel you are going to be using it all the time because it is a little cheaper and much more convenient. If you are looking for a piece of gear that will add a little punch to your mixes, the BBE Sonic Maximizer 882i is worthy of a look.

There are two channels:

channel A: XLR or jack 6.5; XLR or jack 6.5
b channel: same

2 knobs for channel A, channel B the same for

the knob: lo contour and process for each channel.

Button BBE process, if lean on it, it is running: wow!
The channels are independent (one can use mono) but you can use the maximizer of a stereo signal, exit right on channel A for example and left channel output B (that clear?)

UTILIZATION

No more simple,

You hear the sound that passes
BBE process of leaping the button, ET ben the process starts up, the sound changes
And then you turn the knobs according to the channel on which you are and rules to the ear.

So is the effect of the process is immediate, highly effective

In the end (it's just a test 2 days that I have):

I put myself in the ass of my mpc 60, which has its particular sound with a sound somewhat altered anyway. I used the internal mixer to mix the MPC (just). In short: use the Master signal

What I get out of Maximizer: the signal returned as they like is cleaned, reinforced. Finally, by and large, the signal alterations suffered by the various sampling, treatments, ... I've done to make my instruments are as deleted, as each sound is enhanced, even without dénaturerl'essence, sound specific signal (for me especially the grain of the MBM 60 that I like, for example).

Be careful though: do not go there not as a bourrain (yeah what ...). It's all about finesse, to the ear.

OVERALL OPINION

In the end,

I think it's a great product that can be used both in mastering, and for mixing. For me, it can be put anywhere, but to use with intelligence anyway (yeah not have to be stupid either, this product is not an end in itself).

Anyway, I think once you've tasted, it becomes indispensable.

Value for money: great in OCCAZ, but the new price is not so high either ... So I would say excellent.

I bought this processor for the sound of my amliorer Powerworks Powo diffusion. The default of both acute Powo "shrill" and bass too enveloping, I "launched Prior no cost.

The speech of Mr Rope normment convinced me.

Well pleased with the trs rsultat: my Systm is less "aggressive". Sharpen more "crystalline" and much more enjoyable.

The bass is more "round".

I RULES low over a half and I against the treble down to 10, 11am. Your exact satisfy me.

Be careful, this processor is available in XLR or Jack (or symtrique asymtrique). I prfr XLR version because I use it just before my release: the versionXLR allows me to have no contraintesde length of cables and parasites.
