"Extremely fat and vintage sounding"

Seymour Duncan SH-55N Seth Lover Model NeckPublished on 04/17/11 at 18:35

The Seth Lover Neck is Seymour Duncan’s tribute to the very first PAF that a man by the name of Seth Lover created when he was working at Gibson. It’s a purely vintage pickup that features an Alnico II magnet, single conductor braid shielded wiring, adjustable pole pieces on one coil and is not wax potted.

The Seth Lover is a true and true vintage humbucker. They come in both neck and bridge models, so you can get a nicely calibrated set if you’d like. The neck pickup is extremely fat and smooth. When these are put in the neck, they really get that almost Air Norton kind of sound, but better. The lows are extremely fat sounding, the midrange is just perfect, and the highs have......

The Seth Lover is a true and true vintage humbucker. They come in both neck and bridge models, so you can get a nicely calibrated set if you’d like. The neck pickup is extremely fat and smooth. When these are put in the neck, they really get that almost Air Norton kind of sound, but better. The lows are extremely fat sounding, the midrange is just perfect, and the highs have just enough bite to be clear without sounding overly trebly. I especially love how well they seem to respond to the tone control knobs. You can get a huge variety of tones out of these with proper manipulation of the neck tone pot.

As expected, these pickups tend to sound best in Les Pauls, but I find they can work in just about any wood you throw at them. They’re versatile enough to handle nearly anything you throw at them. The biggest drawback, however, is that they’re not wax potted. Because of that, they can really squeal under high gain, and that’s a big no-no for heavy metal players such as myself. Once you wax pot them, they sound quiet, but they seem to lose some of that great vintage style sparkle they were known for.

If you’re looking for a fatter ’59, I highly recommend checking these out. However, just be aware that they’ll probably squeal under high gain, and if you wax pot them, they’ll lose some of the more complex tones these are known for.

Bought used and connected with his brother easel side for 1 year on my Ibanez AG95, I'm delighted.
Alnico magnet 2, no wax.
The sound is rich and warm.
Well balanced, treble, midrange and bass are almost at the same level that offers many adjustment options on the amp.
The lack of wax makes it slightly but pleasantly microphone, a true vintage sound.
The output level is correct.
As stated previously, it is of the same caliber as the Gibson Classic 57.
Good quality / price ratio. It is true that it is not given nine.

" THE exceptional vintage sound"

I use it for 5 years on a Godin XTSA in the neck position.
On my other guitars, I have a Gibson 57 classic in the neck, and I wanted to change.
Very warm, with less than 57 classic medium, but suddenly more balanced choices, with generous bass and treble not aggressive.
With this microphone, my Godin solid body arch rivals my tops for a pure jazz.
I would say it is less "articulated" bitten less than the 57 classic, but suddenly it is softer ... metheny jim hall, but not too green and kenny burrell grant. it can also sound with modern effects ...
a bit pricey, but for me, it is an alternative to 57 classic. Anyway, I think there is one reference 2 humbuckers for jazz. I'd be......

otherwise, my model is simple connector, so not splittable ...

" The true sound of old school PAF!"

I have the complete set "Neck and Bridge" mounted on a Hamer Sunburst bought second hand and already equipped by the previous owner by the microphones. It was very inspired by the way! Hamer of violin making is very oriented Gibson Les Paul and the height thereof, body and neck schools mahogany maple top, the result is simply excellent. I find the spirit, the grain, the harmonic richness and dynamic behavior of the old Les Paul in the spirit of that of Peter Green, who was later owned by Gary Moore. The microphone is not "Wax Potted" he develops a rich and spicy. Its gain is reasonable but can optenir beautiful kind of ACDC crunch and leads in the spirit "Still Got The Blues",......

The microphone is not "Wax Potted" he develops a rich and spicy. Its gain is reasonable but can optenir beautiful kind of ACDC crunch and leads in the spirit "Still Got The Blues", "Parisienne Walkways" if we get to redo his period Blues by Gary Moore but also to Van Halen in an old Marshall pushed to its limits. Its grain and power also allow access to the beautiful sounds clear and open living well, that does not allow all humbuckers. It responds quite well to volume knob. Against by not being "wax potted" I would advise extreme music for Trash Metal genre but for hard-rock old shcool like Gary Moore, Van Halen, ACDC ... ect I find ideal. my favorite is their ability to enhance the wooded side of the mediums luthrie without erase the treble or bass.
If I repeat the purchase price they are admittedly a bit expensive but really bring the sound which can be expected so far I do not see what could make me withdraw my Hamer!
