Electrix Mo-FX

The Electrix Mo FX is a digital multi effects unit. The effects it includes are distortion, flange, tremolo and delay. The effects can be used singularly or they can be mixed and matched together. I believe the connections are XLR and the unit is rackable.

UTILIZATION

The configuration of the Mo FX is easy to follow and manipulate. The dials and buttons are easy to read and while it takes a bit to figure out exactly what does what, as it is all laid out easy enough. The only reason it takes a bit of getting used to is simply because there are so many different effects and different ways to alter them. I don't have access to a manual but I would think it would be helpful in figuring out all the ins and outs of this model.

SOUND QUALITY

I'm really a fan of all of the effects on the Mo FX for various uses on various instruments. My favorite effect is the delay, as it is easy to get a variety of delay sounds from it. I've used it on everything from vocals to guitars and anything else that could use a cool effect or twist to it. You can get a sound anywhere from short, subtle delay to a beautiful, wide, cavernous one. The repeats can get extremely quick and almost crazy sounding. When mixed with some of the other effects it can make for some seriously unique tones. I also like using both the flanger and the tremolo for creating a really thick and wide flange tone or a wobbly tremolo. There are plenty of dials to manipulate each effect to get a real wide variety of sounds for a variety of applications.

OVERALL OPINION

I first used the Electrix Mo FX about 3 years ago and while I no longer have access to it, I wish I did. They are even cheap enough where almost any studio owner could own one and it is a great bang for your buck. If you are looking to expand and get some time based effects that are not in plug in form, this is a great model to get started with.

This machine is built like a TANK, with solid, heavy, easy to grip knobs. Lots of lights too, but they all serve practical purposes. Cut-in buttons and a tap tempo feature make this machine perfect for live/DJ use. No external power supply/wall wart, and the ability to connect to it using RCA or 1/4" cables is great. One of the coolest-looking pieces of gear I own.

UTILIZATION

Midi-control means that you can easily re-create settings and seamlessly integrate the Mo-FX into a PA rig. Not immediately as user friendly as the Pioneer stuff, but way better and more original sounding.

SOUND QUALITY

INSANE!!! All analogue effects make this machine sound worlds better than the digital Pioneer EFX unit. Although it will take a user a fair amount of practice to master this machine, it can subtly affect sound or completely mangle it depending on how far you turn its knobs. My only complaint is that the Distortion block could have been a lot rougher-sounding.

OVERALL OPINION

You could probably hammer nails with this thing. The entire machine is solid and smooth. Never called tech support, doubt I ever will.

My love for it has increased a lot after I took the time to practice using it. While at first it seemed like a crazy noise-box, I have now learned that it can also do all the things a DJM-500 or EFX can do, and sound better as well. Worth the time and the money, it is a classic piece of gear.

SOUND QUALITY

Impressive use of platinum, the most of a mix with a super hot and effects (with the notament infinite delay) that make all crashes mix (stop sound, poor transition) impossible. Effects studio machine (I mostly used with MPC2000) carrment height, grain and gives some heat lamps near the amps. The flange is over-powerful, distortion super hot, I do not use the tremolo a lot, but appear different to resort loop battery there's no better. A great product!

OVERALL OPINION

I have other effects, but digital and the quality of his kidneys has seen! I have also a Kaos pad, and comparison with the Mo FX makes it the best live effect (platinum or machines) for Balace a touch heavy, warm, or to leave a sound in space with the delay crazy (using live techno, drum and bass ...). The price is expensive if it is new but achte the solidity and strength of the can (while mtal frame) make it a great product to acqurir OCCAZ. I heard that the product was no longer as ELECTRIX arrtait to work on its brand.
