A Diamond in the Rough!

Fender Deluxe 900 DSPPublished on 08/17/19 at 10:14
This amp was produced from about 04 to 07 and was around $550 new....a bit expensive, but considering the Celestion G12T-100 speaker that really gives its great tone,I believe its worth it.The amp has the feel of a tube amp and the engineering proves it.The NU-B's comments whose inexperience playing electric amplifiers show,as this is an extremely advanced piece of equipment....and not meant for beginners.
Having played and owned many guitars and amps since 1968,this one is a keeper and I own 2 of them. The tube amp I believe that owns them all is the Fender Twin, whose clean is very similar to the Deluxe 900. Because of the twins weight,it sits at home as the Deluxe 900 is 33 pounds...…

Having played and owned many guitars and amps since 1968,this one is a keeper and I own 2 of them. The tube amp I believe that owns them all is the Fender Twin, whose clean is very similar to the Deluxe 900. Because of the twins weight,it sits at home as the Deluxe 900 is 33 pounds and is easy to pick up and go.
The great thing about the Deluxe 900 is the volume it has and will go from 0 to 60 in a blink of an eye and will blow the rocking chair right out from grandma 2 blocks down. The clean tone is unmatched, pure and sweet for any genre of music.
Most modeling amps with the various sounds are average compared to pedals and this is no exception, but this has parameter knobs that are decent and very helpful.I do use the reverb and delay on the Deluxe that are work well and have them on all the time. The drive 1 and 2 are very good as they can be set for a light crunch to an endless amount of gain with decent tone.Everyone likes a different distortion tone as do I and have a couple 3 pedal flavors to inter change when needed. Most solid state amps that distortion pedals are used with tend to sound fuzzy, buzzy and boxey.....but not on this ampas they sound very natural due in large to the sound of the Celestion speaker.
The tuner works well but I cant see it so I use a remote tuner attached to the head stock when playing which is right in the line of sight.
With the 2 channels, having an eq for each is excellent and very useful to sculpt your tone. The Timbre switch allows for different tones and I use the flat and bright most of the time...but tone is subjective and they are all there for the choosing.
Every amp has its own personality and this one fits mine just right...These can be picked up used for around 200 bucks, and when word gets out how versatile they are are, they will be hard to find...I cant stress enough how the Celestion speaker makes the amp sound so good....You might want to try one out...not just for an hour, but 6 months or so and you just might like it!...

SOUNDS

The tone of this amplifier is not that great. There is no tubes in his amplifier and it's basically a computer amplifier. It has a load of different effects and switches that make it basically and all-encompassing all in one type combo amplifier. This is the kind amplifier that a person who is just starting out how many electric guitar would crap because it has pretty much everything they need to get started as an electric guitar player. So overall the tones and the effects or not going to be that great but you are going to have everything in one convenient location. So therefore it eliminates pedal boards and other external effects to your guitar rig.

OVERALL OPINION

These amplifiers have been discontinued now and I think they been replaced with the new sender G dec series amplifiers. They came in right around $350 I'm sure you can find them in the used section and many classifieds for well under that price. One thing that I don't understand about this amplifier is that it's 90 W of power. This is not the kind of amplifier that I'm going to crush people over with 90 W of power. This is the basically got to be a practice amplifier for someone just learning or just need something to bang around in the garage with.

(Originally written by Vicente121/translated from Audiofanzine FR)

Solid-state 90-watt Fender amp with two channels (clean / drive) plus a "more drive" knob, effects, DSP voicing presets (5 or 6 presets like "bright", "dark", etc. in addition to "flat"). One 12" Celestion Custom speaker.

Guitar input, preamp output, amp input, footswitch connector for the included footswitch (3 switches: clean/lead, lead/mode drive, effects on/off).

Effects: Chorus, delay, reverb, flanger, tremolo. Integrated tuner (good).

Separate EQ for the clean and drive channels.
Two volume, one drive and one master knobs; comprehensive but nothing extraordinary.

I miss a presence control.

UTILIZATION

Very easy to use, no headaches. Plug in, turn the knobs and play. Effects setting is a bit more complicated: with one encoder you select the effect type (reverb, chorus, flanger, etc. plus effects combinations like reverb/delay), and with two other encoders you set the effect level and depth. I miss a Tap function for the delay).

I didn't need the user's manual.

I don't use DSP presets a lot because they alter the color of the sound. I always play with the "flat" preset.

SOUNDS

The sound is good. And that, in my opinion, is the amp's strongest point. For me it's a practicing tool, I just plug in my guitar and play. I'm already used to its strengths and weaknesses.

You get the typical Fender clean sound with a good twang but not much warmth... it's not a tube amp. The sound becomes loud too fast. The drive channel produces a very good and progressive crunch sound. It sounds very good with an OD pedal as a booster. It's the amp's best channel. It suits perfectly my Strat. I like to experiment with different sound colors and play around with the volume knob.

With the "more drive" setting, the tone becomes muddy, a bit too fat but it does extend the amp's sound range. I really like this channel. It doesn't sound accurate but it does gives a lot of sustain. It has a vintage quality to it, like a fat overdrive effect. It really does deliver 90 watts!

OVERALL OPINION

I bought it in 2006 and still play it every day. It's rugged and a bit heavy but it seems to be indestructible. The speaker is good.

I bought it when I started to play guitar again after a 10-year break. I was looking for a plain and sturdy practice amp. I play with other musicians and the amp gets by pretty good because it's very powerful. But I plan to buy an all-tube amp soon to have a blast at parties.
Good value for money. I would certainly but it again for this purpose.
