Marshall MG15FX [2009-2011]

This is basically the same amp as the 30 watt version only half the wattage. This is Marshall's attempt at the introductory amps for the beginner or low budget guitar players. Along with the reverb in the the amp it has several other effects such as Chorus, Phaser, Flanger, Delay. For the quiet player it has a headphone input so if you desire to play at home quietly or in your office this is a great feature.

SOUNDS

The tone from this amp isn't that bad for being a solid state amp. It has 4 channels and all are very usable in the basic functions. This is an all in one amp for a beginner guitar player. Any one who has spent any time with a tube amp will not go for this other than to have as a practice unit for silence or office use. The crunch channel will get you a great classic rock tone. Trying using a Gibson Les Paul or SG and dial down the gain for some good Led Zeppelin tone or Ac/Dc crunch.

The over drive channel are excellent for modern rock and will sound good with any guitar used with humbucker pickup.

OVERALL OPINION

At the new price of about $149 it isn't that bad of a buy. If you are looking for a good amp that you don't have to worry about and just need for practicing or silent playing and you need that Marshall tone then this is a good amp for those purposes. This isn't going to go on stage anywhere or be good for recording, but if you need simplicity in a practice amp then this is a great amp for that. It has a good enough tone for getting your chops down or feeling out the neck of the guitar. I would recommend this to any Marshall fan looking for a solid practice amp.

Modeling 15W, 4 Channels (Clean / Crunch, Overdrive 2) Bass / Mid / Treble, Volume / Master (...), 4 effects (Chorus, Flanger, Delay, Phaser). All in one, for the price it's great!

UTILIZATION

Finding a good when the first uses was to complicated, I must say that I have not read the manual.
Once accustomed to the beast you can get all the sound you want without adding pedals!

SOUNDS

I mainly play everything (except heavy metal that rips the wallpaper), a lot of blues, blues / rock, some sounds with distos (Steve Vai way ...)

Touching setting we reach really have a good sound warm bluesy well clear, and a great crunch!
In terms of overdrive, the first is nice but I quickly replaced by a metal BOSS area.
The second overdrive is really not top (for my taste), so dirty!

So for the price necessarily the effects are not always the pedals:
- Chorus pretty bad, although at very very very small doses it can do
- Flanger and Phaser really not great, but to discover these effects
- Delay great !! nothing to say, I have my Boss Digital Delay plugged in but I'm using almost no delay so the amp is simple to set up and really nice.
- Great and good progressive Reverb!

I play with a Squier Stratocaster Made in Japan (1996) and a Custom 77 Hollowbody CS4, the amp sounds great with these two guitars.

The only really heavy stuff, the volume increases substantially change the channel ... overdrive footswitch activated it's great but if you should lower the volume every time the footswitch is useless ...

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for only 4 years apart, many times and he has disappointed me on big distos (ie 1/20 of what I play).
A very good amp for the price, give him a BOSS BD-2 and / or a Metal Zone and you have a combo of fire, what to do for a few years (to start or not).

I've had about 1 year at first I thought he was great because my first amp was really bad but after listening to the sound of an amp to a friend I realized that this was not the must after the poue price is right (not neglect effect and reverb that are integrated)

This is the new (2009) model, I wait a long time, Marshall has finally made the total it's nice. Analog parallel digital effects and programmable! 4 channels, clear-od-rock solo. 15 watts but no big noise as the old series, mini jack phones out (finally) and in which the volume is set by the master (the total top practice). Footswitch jack for the pedal (50 euros extra) which gives access to 4 sounds more tuner. Top: the delay is over when you change channels, it's a class act! The HP 8 inches, well it's going to help but connect a 12-inch external, or 412 for the sound. Rock'n'roll

UTILIZATION

Absolutely Extremely easy, clear and legible for the pedals I do not know (yet). The four channels deliver the basic sounds, there's more we turn the knobs and press store. Cool.

SOUNDS

First of all, with his little hp it means but fortunately not too sharp. Normal. On a 12 inch that breathes for good, as normal. I deplore the headphone too treble bees (AKG 240studio, top with all the other guitar sound devices). Compared to the previous MG15, the bass is finally here, the crunch too (finer to be paid), and everything is better in fact. The clean is great, really clean, but the chorus is hot and dimensional, though. The rock crunch remains in the soul, blues rough, with the delay is great. The rock is tight compact, ideal for rhythmic hell, but still pretty good definition dirty. The lead is consistent with a long delay in the living room is Gary! The reverb is in addition to other effects, the total at this price. It's very marshall, typed. It penetrates well into the mix, cool to be heard. However the definition of sets is in terms of price, no miracle either.

OVERALL OPINION

2 times I had the sound of a metronome with reverb, lighting gear, fixed back on. It's a great amp for fun and work seriously. The analog sound really makes the difference compared to 30watts spider3 I own too. Both amps have the same purpose, but I still choose the marshall, true. I put all ten, no defects for its price and very usable in the absolute.

Update: I bought the pedals, cheap, and frankly it's so essential it's better! Chromatic tuner Tap tempo change over the 4-channel ... No latency, and to move to lead the rhythm is the same switch, great for solo lines with short sentences.
This pedal can also be programmed in every way, I let you see the instruction manual of the combo for more info.
The level, use the clean is too low compared with three other sounds, and everything sounds pretty sly but always a hair chemical highs, especially with a Start. I would say that Marshall is best for double coils (especially since it has no noise gate).
I prefer the line6 spider4 30w, more versatile and relevant sound level (more expensive, alas).
Update: Nevertheless, I sold the spider and kept this little mg ... except that I only made up his mind and frankly it is ultra compact and lightweight. It sounds great on a box 12pouces, more hp it runs out of steam and sounds much less.
Tip: with a simple level converter connected to the output of the radio mg I can drive any power amplifier (my fame VS30 for example, two EL34) with the true simulation without the hp required to the headphone output. ..
Hence my suggestion Msieu marshall: the same but with a preamp output stage for EL34 is the total (analog, programmable, embedded mixed effect immediately, pedals great, low price made in toulaba requires !)...
