Yamaha RGX520FZ
Made in Japan

fixed bridge very convenient if you often change the tuning (metal powaaa!)
a button volume + 1 tone
a three-position selector
stick stuck I believe ...

UTILIZATION

Channel rather nice well rounded,
It is equipped with micro Alcino
use is very versatile
covient it both as the metal for jazzy rhythm
In the final sound is really good!

SOUNDS

As mentioned above sound great ... no complaints!

OVERALL OPINION

Well I use it only for a short time (two months) but I must say what is very satisfactory that the price / quality ratio is really excellent with this guitar is really explodes and it is suitable for all styles! We really enjoy playing over the sound is really clear and accurate net! only black spot on the board: it is very rare and hard to find especially in red! (I had to wait three months before receiving it)
Finally a guitar in the mouth and sound, what class!

Yamaha RGX520FZ
The model I have here is made in Indonesia.
Yes, it is hard to believe but the beautiful is well known from that country to the Kingdom of the Violin ...

24 medium-jumbo frets on a mahogany set neck with a thickness of a respectable lined rosewood fingerboard.
Scale: 25 1 / 2 "= 648mm
Radius: 13 3 / 4 "= 350mm

The RGX 520 FZ is "powered" by two Yamaha Alnico V humbuckers mounted on a flamed maple top and solid mahogany body.

The bridge is an AES dear to the brand. This type of bridge is actually a bridge typically Tune-O-Matic, but the mounting system is a bit more work: string through the gorges through-chrome steel, the AES in all its glory!

The adjustment of the handle is at the bottom, at the last box, under a black plastic cover screwed. Not what is easy but the solution has the merit of being rather elegant.

After the two basic knobs (tone and volume general) and the three-position switch Gibsonian we linger a little on the shape of the body. And there is quite unusual: the table is thick and sculpted, glued to a piece body!
The mahogany set neck has six Grover "tubular". After a few seconds of skepticism we conquered it's totally practical.

Finishing level (table carved, streamlined body, rounded button, picture on the handle ...) we are in the beautiful. Well above the Gibson US-1 that I was honored to have some time. 8 / 10 and I still severely limited.

UTILIZATION

The handle is a real beam. C profile generous, see the features above. The access to acute is simplified by the double notch stratabound, but the heel of the neck is felt. One wonders just why it is filled with 24 frets, this guitar sounds like a weapon above all rhythmic and will be less credible to a shredder.

Ergonomics is worked. While not perfect it is good, others are better, but in the series of hybrid Les Paul / Strat we have seen much worse. The body is really thick and heavy, but the cut and carved table serve.

The sound "unplugged" is not bad, good sustain. For the vacuum I'd say 7 / 10 rating is pretty close to reality. There are better, but there is also much worse.

SOUNDS

This is a guitar beautifully designed, the approval is good and the finish of the most significant. But I must admit that the Alnico V is passable. For a guitar at this price (420 euros) is quite normal: the violin was stolen heute, microphones and otherwise weaklings would have been regrettable.

The RGX 520 FZ is a very good starting point for serious customization. Yamaha has chosen to produce an instrument healthy and of good quality but the choice of microphones are disappointing. Given the price, I thank Yam not falling into the trap "of violin pickups but m **** brand."

A rule of thumb (yes I know, the phrase is curious) I tend to liabilities, or Crel Seymour. This guitar really deserves it.

We can discuss the books with the usual Les Paul 520FZ his warm, round and powerful. But the pickups are average and poor dynamics. Blues, Rock, Hard Metal and easily ... After changing pickups. As it stands, you just heat and can get a hint of blues.

In a small Epiphone Valve Junior is hot, surprisingly round and slamming.
In a PODxt is ... PODxt sound! It does well but hey, it's quite chemical as you know.

Note that the 3-position and the controls are damn good and effective. A good point.

I will seriously consider my choice of mics ... SD, Crel ... Gibson and why not the original??

Carton Gross as it is: 6 / 10 (I am very severe)
There is no doubt that with good microphones we will brush the top, instrument making promises.

OVERALL OPINION

After extensive testing in various shops (and thus very different amps) I fell for this big 520FZ. It is the mixture LP / Strat who finally convinced me, the son of guitar and squat bodybuildée that promises big sound good with a nice finish.

She is beautiful in black translucent (the table shows much less flamed over mine on the red version), but really heavy. Be warned, it's almost as heavy as a Les Paul the great grandfather (yes, Grandpa, farpaitement).

A violin top, a very good acastillage, a serious e ... but the cheap microphones. If you want the guitar to the rhythm and much thicker than a change of pickups put you off, you have before you a very nice scratch!

The price / quality ratio is very good. How? you just said that the microphones were bad! Certe yes. But the violin is well above the guitars two to three times more expensive. As I said, my ex Gibson US-1 was not at that level.
The quality / price ratio is above top by changing the pickups: 420 euros + 150 / 200 euros guitar pickups give you a guitar as good as much scratching at 800/1000 euros. I could not be more serious if you do not believe me, go test it on the field!

For now my score will stay glued to 6 / 10. Again I am horribly severe.

I edit this notice after selecting my new microphone (if you have any suggestions, send me a message. Except EMG, I am open to all). Check back soon.
