Marshall 4104 JCM800 Master Volume Lead [1981-1989]

The Marshall JCM 800 4104 is 50 watt, 2x12 combo. It is powered by two EL34 power tubes that drive the two Celestion G12-65 speakers. I have also seen this model with 6550 power tubes and Celestion G12T-75 speakers. The 4104’s controls are Presence, Bass, Middle, Treble, Master Volume and Preamp Volume. There are two input jacks; high and low sensitivity. This is a very no frills amplifier, but what it lacks in features it makes up for in tone.

UTILIZATION

It is extremely easy to get a good tone from this Marshall combo. One thing that should be noted about the single channel JCM 800’s is that the tone controls are cascading, meaning that turning the Bass knob will affect the Treble, etc.

SOUNDS

I use this amp with a Gibson Les Paul Custom. I have used a Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive and a Fulltone Fulldrive II to boost the amp for higher gain tones and achieved excellent results with both pedals. This is a one channel amp and it is designed to sound overdriven, so getting a completely clean tone can be difficult. Using the low sensitivity input and rolling back on the guitar’s volume knob will yield a passable clean tone, but it will not sound like a Fender, nor should it. Like most other tube amps the Marshall 4104 sounds best when the volume is turned up a bit. I usually play with the Master volume around 4 on the dial. This starts to work the power tubes a bit more making the amp sound more dynamic.

OVERALL OPINION

This amp is designed to do one thing and it does it extremely well. Some may call it a “one trick pony,” but I personally love what this amp does. It is a classic Marshall sound in a compact combo, but is still loud enough for any rock band or live setting.

UTILIZATION

it is very simple. without trying too it falls on its type AC / DC, but personally I can find the sound of a plexi putting me on the clean channel with the preamp to the max, this is where this amp best accept pedals. I put only 9 because you can not switch from one channel to another without a jack plug.

It suits my style of music (note that this amp is worth it if you plug in the right hp, in my case the Celestion g12-65, those who have "upgraded" to the g12-70 have missed them: )

The clean sound is very nice, crunchy to perfection, the distortion is fat without bee!

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a year, this amp is missing is a reverb (mine has an added effects loop), this is the best combo that is to play rock group, and it is more robust !

Playing alternative rock, I found the sound.
a Gibson Les Paul studio and make a couple jcm 800 Dtonn. One small snag though it is a must add a rverb (since it is totally dpourvue). For my part I made is one Danelectro cornedbeef (it sounds 60s c ' is trrible). By pushing the knob to lower the fever has a 8 to 4 mdiums prsence a 3-4 and a 7, you get the sound of 90s rock band french (sheriff, oth, pkrk, rats, and many others ...). With a sound tlcaster softphone, Y has even marshall, which provides configuration of rglage on marshallamp.com

It should be expected on a clean sound, but that's another planet, you're you're m'impression THE KING ON THE WORLD try and understand you.

2 guitar input: the first is to sound clear, and the 2nd sounds saturated but there is no switching between two channels (to switch from one to the other must Connect! This is not possible even with a AB box.

Rglage: gain, volume, treble, mid, bass, prsence that's all! At least it is not lost in rglages.

NB: Unlike the picture of audiozine, the guitar input 2 are arranged a cot and not the other one above the other (if anyone knows what it is I d 'm interested ...)

UTILIZATION

Trs simple config so very easy handle. Have a good sound is very simple if not childish.

The trs rglages are not effective but that is because it is passive, then, by turning a button you change the "CHARACTERISTICS" other. It's a bit hot but we understand there is rev quickly, the more it has a more musical sound

SOUNDS

The clear sound (um, between the "low") is not the best in the world but is suitable for phases in the clear when we play the stuff that make Bourin / quiet / Bourin / quiet ...
Without pedals between the blade and the throat, between the high, it has a sound that will quiet the sound of blues AC / DC (especially when the amp is pushed)

To get the sound, I tried a variety of pedals before falling on the one that suits me. the problem is that this amp Ragit too much of distortion pedals and overdrive. The mtalzone for example, that I detest on my other amp (Roland Jazz Chorus 50Watts) or even any other transistor amplifier (Marshall Valvestate test and laney 80w 80w) on the JCM monstrous sounds: a sound with that I play both the Pixies, from NOFX, the Black Desir. Each note rings and remains inteligible the sound is clean but rock'n'roll. When I need a more CRAD or even a clear sound continuously, I pass on the roland + DS7 Ibanez.
I put 9 / 10 to find her because I have a ajoindre pedals but once I got a good Found his madness.

OVERALL OPINION

Solid, simple, just turned 20 years and did not flinch one bit since I bought it 6 years ago.
I prt lot of friends to record, all fell in love. ("No, I do not sell !!!")
I like its simplicity even if the flange at the versatility in terms of its clear. on the other hand for everything saturation and overdrive is so cool!
