Fender High Gain isn't Everyone's Cup of Tea
Published on 08/25/21 at 13:05First off. It goes without saying that the Fender Clean sound is the benchmark for all amplifiers. It is the basis for comparison and there is really nothing more to say in that regard.
Secondly, the Fender High Gain Sound is really just that. It's the "Fender" Gain/Overdrive/Distortion sound.
It is unique. It seems to me that most dissatisfied users were expecting the Marshall or Mesa overdriven sound for some reason, not understanding that Fender amps are not designed for that purpose. They can be used as an excellent, if not the best, pedal platform amplifier if that is what your intentions are. In that regard, I believe they may be the best. Buy a good gain pedal and distortion...…

Not it at all
Published on 11/15/11 at 15:11fender is very well known for their great sounding guitars extremely versatile instruments. They're also known for their excellent clean sounding guitar amplifiers. Some amplifiers really hit the nail right on the head and some others really fall short of their potential. This is one of those amplifiers in my opinion that really fall short of its overall potential. It has a decent clean sound but the gain structure and tone is very lacking overall. This is not an amplifier that I would like to get and pretty much wouldn't do anything other than using as a clean amplifier. This is ahead version of this combo that is been quite popular but this amplifier is just not there.

SOUNDS
I'm not fan of the tone is amplifier because he just doesn't have the right necessary utensils to get me going in a recording studio or gigging session. It just doesn't sound right if that makes any sense. It just feels like it's lacking something in the overall tone and feel of the amplifier. It could've been the matching speakers which came with the amplifier in a cabinet but it just didn't have that write tone that you're looking for and you need to connect with your amplifier and guitar. I would not purchase this amplifier because it just doesn't sound right.
OVERALL OPINION
These amplifiers come in new right at about $1800 which is a little expensive for my blood. That's a lot of money for most people and for when you get its not worth it. I would suggest going with something much better and much more versatile than this amplifier. The clean tone is nice but for the money you could go a lot of places with a decent clean amp for way under this price.

nice blonde tolex with brown grill
Published on 06/02/11 at 16:46This is the same amp as the combo version but just in a head version. You get the same features and tone but just the ability to use it with other cabinets. This head has a particularly sweet looking tolex covering. It comes in a blonde/cream tolex covering and a brown grille cloth that match up real nicely together.
This is a bit different then the regular super sonic amps. This one has a some extra features such as a biasing control deck on the back of the amp for self biasing. Nice feature to have. Along with the extra speaker included and a big bump in wattage up to 100 watts of power. You will pay a huge chunk of change to get this amp over the regular SS. The price of this one...…

This is one of the very best modern amplifiers that Fender has put out. This is more of a high gain amp for Fender but still keeping the vintage clean tones they are so famous for having. The amp have quite a bit of features compared to some of their more vintage styled amps. This one has a fat boost switch and also a reverb to add a bit of depth to the tone. I would call this a vintage modern amp for Fender.

I like this amp with all kinds of guitars, but mostly I like it with a Fender Stratocaster or a Charvel San Dimas or Socal. I like the light to medium tone of the ash and alder body woods. This compliments the nature of the amp quite well. The clean is very Fender sparkly and jangly. Then you go to channel two and having two gains is almost heaven. This is something you see on several boutique amplifiers. Suhr amps like the PT100 has a similar thing but theirs acts like another channel. This one just gives you deeper and juicy gain distortion.
OVERALL OPINION
If you need a god clean tone and a hot rod gainy distortion channel then this is your amp. The clean is remarkable and the gain has so much variation with the dual gains that is makes this amp a lot of fun to play.
At new these amps come in at around $1799. This is a little pricey for the upgrade head version of the SS. I would recommend playing before blind buying. Having two channels are great and both are exceptional so this is a big bonus. I would recommend anyone to go and try this amp if you get the chance. You may or may not like the voicing but it is a solid amplifier.
