Edirol UA-1000

The Edirol UA1000 only works with a Windows XP machine (unless they have changed the drivers from the time I was using it). It is a 10 in and 10 out interface that works via USB. I have gotten nothing but high quality audio recordings and play back with this interface. It is very versatile and has line inputs, mic inputs and even guitar inputs on it.

UTILIZATION

One of the huge downfalls on this interface is that you cannot change the sample rate on the fly (not that all interfaces allow that), you have to turn it completely off and back on after you change the sample rate and this can be a huge hassle especially when you have other people in your studio working with you and everything has to stop for a moment.

GETTING STARTED

This interface does install very easily, it took not time at all to install and start using. Even if you are brand new to installing interfaces or if you are purchasing your first interface, this could be the perfect one for you. It works with USB only, no FireWire and it works great with a desktop set up or a mobile set up as long as you are using Windows computers.

OVERALL OPINION

I have used this interface with Cubase, and a laptop that was running XP 32 bit and it never gave me any problems. It does come with a well written manual just in case but I didn’t even need to use it at all. The interface is built to last a long time and is solid. The sample rate issue was the only problem that I didn’t like about it but it does have a rotary switch that offers 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96 kHz sample rates. But switching the unit off any time I wanted to switch was a huge hassle and I absolutely messed up my workflow many times.

OVERALL OPINION

I wanted a sound card for my laptop. an ACER travelmate 654lc. I had a choice between Dirol and M-audio firewire 410. g essay rapidemant the Dirol. rsultat: 436 buffer for 15 ms latency, a sound that seems to me pchu. but ... CPU load in fruity loops for a given squence is mounted more than 100% (!), producing sounds "exprimentaux" interresting only who collects bugs ...

Then I tried the M-Audio. problem to install (have made the Bourin, it is our fault), have to go into the registry (winXP) to transfer everything to do with M-Audio, only to reinstall the thing . rsultat: 512 buffers for 13 ms latency, clear sound, and ... CPU load with the same squence in fruity loops does not Exceeds 65%! but ... impossible to use the MIDI! it silent but not well recognized by to channel anything (I use a controller uc33 evolution)!

I finally gard the m-audio as any fawn, I have eight days to bring it in case ... This will leave me time to find a solution for that damn morning.

No problem encountered in the configuration incompabilit gnrale is clear to me as a PCistes, the installation was done in 10 minutes by my watch.

The drivers are stable, for all applications (Cubase SX1 and Logic 5.5).
Latency is inaudible but I am however an update of drivers forward, for better performance.
The Contol Panel is my got a bit rough but still effective, VU meters / O would be welcome ...

Short tour of ct performance:

With any config worthy of the name dedicates the audio, it will run nickel (Athlon 2400 +, 512MB):
- 65% load on CPU SX with 10 Vsti's and more than 10 plug processing sound buffer size to a minimum. No cracks.
- 30% CPU load with the same session and the maximum buffer size. There's the margin?

With a little practice, this card offers powerful enough opportunities.

The AU-1000 I use for my home-studio, with a POD in between 7 / 8 + insert in my AirFx on keyboards or input / output processing Diffr.

A 44.1 kHz/24 bit, catch his microphone (AKG 451, Neumann U87) trs are honorable: the prampli is punchy and right, even in front of percussion. The converters are good enough, the sound is prcis, although Dfine.

J have hesitated between several sound cards:

After reading the reviews below I thought that it had to be more than enough for what I wanted to do.
My problem was to have a single card to install, nor that there is no bug, that it is fully compatible with XP, and especially that she has a latency <10 ms using the VSTi and with multiple audio tracks.

Conclusion: J have done well to trust those who have some experience, the map is stable, I would use the Cubase SX 2 + Kompakt + + Plugsound of audio tracks and all rolls for the moment with a 7ms latency.

Although my computer for the moment is not dedicated to the Mao, I find the results quite good for my use.

J got a problem with an external hard drive USB 2 and a TV tuner card that I would crash the computer: the conflict between the drivers of ua 1000 and those of my TV tuner card!

and j have on my computer full of programs that start at the same time games etc, despite this comes a day use VSTi effects, with a latency of 7ms, then goal achieved.

More Technical Service Edirol responds quickly to questions by mail if like me you galerez a bit with routing.
