Good to keep around in case you are running low on CPU

Eventide BlackholePublished on 12/30/12 at 00:18
The Eventide Blackhole Reverb plug-in is very affordable and worth the purchase. It does require iLok2 but you can use it as a VST in any program you wish to use it with. This plug-in is very light on your CPU and takes just a few seconds to install and get it up and running. I run it on my Macbook running OS X 10.5 and it works great. It has never crashed or failed while running it in Pro Tools. It is not my first choice to go with when I need some reverb in Pro Tools 10 but I do use it from time to time just for a different look and a different sound.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

The only reason I chose to purchase it was because it cost less than 100 dollars and every now and then I will look for cheaper plug-ins to purchase because they can turn into something that I may love later down the road. I have only had it for about a month but I have only used it about 4 times or so. I probably won’t use it too much because I have so many other plug-ins that can give me a great reverb sound I will only use it if I am running low on CPU and need some more reverb then I can load this up and not have to worry about it affecting my CPU.

OVERALL OPINION

The best part about it is that you can run it about 10 times and not even notice it putting any load or work on your CPU. I use it as a back up just in case I am running low I will still be able to get a great reverb with this plug-in. The quality of reverb it provides is very good for it to be a simple plug-in. It gives you full control over how you want it too sound it just does not give you many presets or reverb types to work with.

Eventide sound!

I'm trying right now the demo version of the plug. Eventide place a temporary license on your iLok and therefore the installation is hassle-free.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

I use Pro Tools on a 10 MacBook Pro 13 "early 2011. The plug is the new format AAX Avid and runs flawlessly without consuming too much resources.
The grain of the reverb is huge! We can lengthen the reverberation time to infinity without artifacts or feeling loop ... The modulation of the reverb tail is gorgeous! We can get many different effects with simple settings and funky: P

OVERALL OPINION

Right now the plug is in promotion ($ 99 instead of $ 199 or $ 111 instead of $ 249 with a key iLok2).

I used to prod an album H8000 FW and can tell you that we are not far from the reverb space of the beast! Although the H8000 seems to have a stage and a better stereo but that does it plug "sounds" really! Perfect for guitar / synths / vocals / FX ...
The price / quality ratio is very interesting and gives you a very specific pro reverb for a reasonable price.
