THE keyboard for gigs
Published on 06/13/15 at 06:28Do you want an affordable keyboard with top features for gigs? This is the one.
If you decided to buy the MOX8, so you're glad of it, because it has anything. I mean, literally. It works perfectly as synthesizer, workstation, master controller and digital piano. I say that you can buy a MOX8 and nothing more, because it's kind of a full-featured keyboard setup condensed in only one instrument.
I've been writing music with it and I can say there's no need of external tools like software sequencers, DAWs and others. Just use the Pattern mode and let your imagination flow Oh, I forgot to mention that it can deliver its sound through USB - it means that you can record it digitally on your...…

I got this keyboard in mid-2013 and don't see me replacing it with anything else. Even the MOTIF series. "Why?" Because the MOTIF XF-8 has much more tools, but it's also the biggest and heaviest of the series, and I need to transport it here, there and everywhere. Since I'm pianist, keyboardist and composer at the same time, the MOX8 takes the cake.

A great buy for a first time workstation user
Published on 01/30/13 at 20:47A studio that I go to frequently has the MOX8 there for us to work with. I always enjoy working with it though I would never go out and purchase it because of all of the boards that I have at home that are similar or better. The MOX8 was one of those workstations that I didn’t even have to see a manual to know how to work it because most all of the Yamaha’s boards are very similar with the way that they work and operate. So if you have used one of them you have pretty much used them all.

UTILIZATION
Using the MOX8 is not as complex as my Motif board at home, but the functionality of it is pretty much identical. All of the menus and options are pretty much the same and the general layout is the same, even the pitch and mod wheel feel the same. You will not need a manual to work with this workstation and it can easily be synched up with your DAW to be used as a VST.
SOUNDS
The keys are touch sensitive and feel really good. The sounds are very good, especially the arps, I love the arps plus there are over 6 thousand different patterns that you can arp with which is more than any other board I think that I have ever used. Getting this full 88 key workstation to work with your PC or Mac is also very simple. I have used it on a Mac computer at the studio before and it was really easy to work with it as a VST.
OVERALL OPINION
Sequencing on this workstation is also pretty simple though I would not choose to use its sequencing because I think that using it in Logic was so much better. For the price, to get a full 88 key workstation with a ton of arps is a steal and a must have. If I didn’t already have so many similar boards I would purchase this one to keep at home!

1 of the best
Published on 10/31/12 at 22:50The Yamaha MOX8 is a hammer action synth that has 88 keys. This is one of the best user friendly synth workstations that I have used. It has a built in interface with 4 in and 2 out inputs. There are over 6 thousand arpeggiator pattern presets on the Yamaha MOX8. It is very easy to find the sound that you are looking for on the Yamaha MOX8 because it has a category search option. Every since I have been using the Yamaha MOX8 I have noticed a spark in my creativity because this keyboard gives you so many options to control your sound. The Yamaha MOX8 has let me get the ideas that are in my head out easily.

UTILIZATION
Editing your sounds is simple, as long as you understand how to use the functions of the Yamaha MOX8. It could take you some time before you have a full grasp on how this keyboard operates. Understanding all of its functions and “tricks” don’t come quick, but once you got them down they will stick with you forever. All of the MO line of keyboard synths from Yamaha has pretty much the same set up so if you can work this keyboard you can work them all.
SOUNDS
The sounds are amazing, all of the synths and brass are perfect. I have only found a few sounds on this keyboard that I didn’t like too much and most of them are basses. The bass is where I think Roland beats out Yamaha keyboard synths.
OVERALL OPINION
There are a lot of keyboards out there, and a lot of them are very good. But the Yamaha MOX8 makes everything so easy. You can create from scratch or build off of presets that it gives you. Knowing what I know now, I should have got this keyboard when it first came out. It is also priced well!

cheap price for a full 88 key workstation
Published on 06/28/12 at 23:54The MoX8 is a full 88 key workstation that I cant believe cost under 2 thousand dollars. Most of the other workstations by roland and other companies will cost well over 2 thousand dollars and that’s just for the 61 key version. So I don’t know how Yamaha can afford to put this one out and it’s a full 88 key workstation and keep it under 2 thousand dollars.
UTILIZATION
Its not easy at all to understand , it will take some time if you havent worked with many yamaha systems before. A yamaha workstation is way different than Roland workstations which is what I was use to for a while. This keyboard is huge, so don’t plan on taking it a lot of places with you, its just too big to be...…

A yamaha workstation is way different than Roland workstations which is what I was use to for a while. This keyboard is huge, so don’t plan on taking it a lot of places with you, its just too big to be lugging around or even attempting to want to take it anywhere with you.
SOUNDS
The sounds are really good, there is a wide selection of sounds that you can use, and all of them are pretty editable within the board. The downside of this keyboard is that the screen isn’t too big and I hate having to work on a sequence with a screen that is this tiny. It is a nice backlit color though, but its just so small it makes it difficult to really be able to edit everything the way that I like.
OVERALL OPINION
For the price and the full 88 keys, you wont find a better deal at this price. If you can afford it you will need to purchase this. it’s a great deal for a huge full size workstation that can produce all types and genres of music. You will not be disappointed with this workstation. I just hope you have better ability to put up with the screen size then I do. So now I just mostly use it for the sounds only.
