I bought it as a "mule" for my music and I'm never served over 30s ...
Sold as soon as I found my 72 ...
Tip: If you want an SG that sounds a single solution, type in vintage at least 20 years, the wood is dry and stable guitar pickups are weathered, the sound is unmistakable ... Gibson even themselves!

UTILIZATION

Handle this well, we feel good, but still very fun to play. Access to treble is excellent. The knobs are too close to each other, so that it can play a little tricky if you are not used and that has shaped fingers socks (this is not my case).

Nitro lacquer very comfortable, it provides good vibration of the guitar that makes the q'on feels good.
The guitar is just even in very low tuning (I play in A). Even a PRS custom 22 I owned had more trouble with this kind of tuning (it's still a great guitar still a PRS).
Always such a gibson to set the jumpers: it's effective. The same for the adjustment of the handle. The pickups? is simple: two screws each for height adjustment and a screw rope and microwave for finer adjustments. In short, we can adjust as we REALLY want.
No definitely not much to say about it. I'll put 9 knobs even if me they fit me just fine.

SOUNDS

Personally I think this guitar can suit any type of music, but good if you prefer to play funky casseroles nothing will ever replace a strat.
I play, blues rock, hard, metal, metal very large and sometimes looking for jazzy sounds. Everything goes without needing to do this concession! Never found such a versatile guitar. After fau love the character of this guitar because it is very (VERY VERY) present. The sound is generally quite bold but against very accurate. Well complex or sensitive agreements, which sometimes come evil big distortion, are super articulated: all notes agree. Arpeggios distortion out very well.
In clean sound is very rich with a very large dynamic range (it's not good either single coil huh!). We're doing great things in clean with this guitar, it sounds not dry for a penny but it's not as long as it is boiled. No, no sound is still beautifully balanced (as long as its microphones is adjusted as desired)

The rest is very subjective (hence my 10) but I've played and owned a lot of guitars (jackson USA and Japan, USA PRS, Fender USA and Mexico, Ibanez Japan Korea Philippine Whale Kore, BC Rich China / NJ, Kore Epiphone, ESP Japan, Kore LTD, Schecter, ...) And frankly many were great guitars, but I can not help with this guitar (a very recent purchase) I finally found exactly what I was looking for.

Contrary to what one might think cete grate rather recommended for rock / hard is super comfortable in the clean and crunch, and tears all about extreme distos (I sometimes play stuff like Nevermore, Cannibal Corpse, etc ...)

After this purchase I will probably keep more than one, the Fender USA and Mexico, and probably buy me one for a more civilized tuning ^ ^

OVERALL OPINION

For me (but beware this is very subjective) this is the best guitar I've ever played.

More objectively:
This is a guitre comfortable everywhere except perhaps for the slamming funk well (but at the same time learn to be comfortable for funk and jazz for such I do not know if you can find it). The sound is clear and rich with a nice character.
€ 850 for a secondhand guitar in new condition and ten years of age. The qualité-performance/prix report is IMHO unbeatable I put 10 without hesitation.

UTILIZATION

The handle is perfect (for my taste) and for those like me who do not support the weight of a Les Paul, this is a good compromise. Although talk of compromise for this guitar is not fair!

I got this guitar for my 20 years (I'm almost 43) and I still have it.

I use it for 23 years, for all jazz or rock formations, or you need a big warm sound. Its small defect might be holding the tuning, I had to change the mechanics.

UTILIZATION

The highlight of this guitar, besides the fact that it was designed by Paul to meet a growing demand for guitar lighter than the Les Paul, is the accessibility of the handle over the entire key. Properly adjusted, the handle is a delight, profile suits me perfectly, neither too fine nor too coarse.

SOUNDS

This is a guitar that maintains a typed character and authentic, especially in saturation, where his aggressive side in the bridge position leads to a game muscled. One branch, and it plays immediately, the amp settings are easy to find because the guitar the tone from the outset. We also like the neck pickup, less round than a Les Paul fitted with the same microphones, but can be used in saturation where he reveals his character bluesy and clear sound for jazz if desired and appropriate settings, although it remains far from a guitar case which is the chosen field. Personally I only use very little the tone, but it is not unique to this guitar with me, or just slightly darker then the neck pickup for a clear and jazzy muted or saturation shrill to Robert Fripp. The SG has a particular and recognizable sound already when you play it unplugged, a kind of nervous attack and sustain of a particular definition in the mid frequencies. Having tried several clones, some Epiphone high-end, there is far from Gibson that I have seen this feature that I think is the basis for the sound identity of this model.

OVERALL OPINION

I had a SG long ago, his nervous side, from its propensity to feedback, the thickness and sharpness saturation I missed, so I opted to buy a new model and I do not regret it, although I do not know what it is current productions, and constants in terms of quality, at a time when large companies like Gibson and Fender have become multinationals run by soulless financial ... It is ideally suited for rock music, hard rock and blues .. its very good sustain allows sounds difficult to execute with other guitars.

I have a whole collection of guitars at home and not least (deluxe fender stratocaster, gibson Les Paul Custom, Gibson Flying V, etc ...) I have 18 guitars, and she holds a special place in the order my preferences.

Gibson USA SG bought new in 1996, original mechanical replaced by Grover (oil bath), and the original pickups (Gibson 490R and 498T) replaced by bare knuckles abraxas (neck) and nailbomb (bridge).

UTILIZATION

This guitar is a very engaging, full of pep, very comfortable to play, handle end, access to acute weight. Strong personality, I think. Even in the original configuration, it sends bcp in different styles (blues, rock, metal), as well as clear, distortion or crunch always with the unmistakable energy. She did not sound the girth of a Les Paul, but it is a crazy dynamic. I find it very sensitive to the nuances of touch, depending on how you play it.

I changed because I found the mechanical Kluson without oil bath home a bit limited, especially when pulling hard on the rope. I will also change again, as Grover are heavy and tip the head down standing. As for pickups, the original set is coherent and dynamic, but lacked a bit of definition and clarity for my taste, but this is very personal. I made the choice to radicalize some configuration with severe acute softer and more biting (I'm happy choice, for those that may be interested). The guitar starts screaming with nailbomb. The warmth and brightness gives abraxas and I was blown away by the sounds into the microphone splittant (I added a push-pull on the grave)

SOUNDS

I play on a Marshall JCM900 and a Mesa Rectoverb. In the original config, I found a penchant for marshall it sounded perfectly, it was less magic on the mesa. Problem completely solved with the new pickups, evolution evident on the mesa, more than the marshall

OVERALL OPINION

I am very fond, if I had to keep one, this would be it. This is also my first "real" guitar after an entry-level, so it has sentimental value, which skews a bit my point of view ... but I'm still a blast to play. Good itches!

UTILIZATION

Round super nice, a thinner Les Paul but well filled by hand.
The guitar is super light, well balanced and all the squares are accessible with the greatest of ease.
The pitch is shorter than a stratocaster or telecaster where less tension strings so that with the original strings 10-46, the bends are very easy to make.
I have a rising stratocaster telecaster 10-46 and in 9/42 and the SG is between the two in terms of string tension, for me it's perfect! but that's just my opinion ...

UTILIZATION

My styles are rock, hard rock, heavey, pop, pop, a little bit of everything what.

The SG is the best for rock, more or less punchy. It will be limited in heavey-metal, I prefer my Ibanez EMG 81/85. on the other hand for the rest, she excels, rock, hard course.

I play a Blackstar HT5 first generation, the couple works perfectly. I have a few pedals from: Marshall Guv'nor first generation The EHX Big Muff, MXR Zakk Wylde Chorus, all going well, except maybe my Zvex Box Of Metal, but then we get into the big, big sound.

I've always loved the gibson.
The sg standard is surprising but I've sold because I have already a strat and lespaul us auxquelles.je am sentimentally attached and I will never return.
That said, as soon as I could, I m sg buy a standard or a 61 reissue.
