Can of bees

Marshall 4501 JCM900 Dual Reverb [1990-1999]Published on 07/10/11 at 23:22
This amp is terrible! I can't believe this thing has tubes in it. I thought at first I was listening to some made in China solid state amp that cost $150. I can't believe this thing has tubes. Not only was the tone flat and sounded like a can of bees, I thought that the thing was going to start smoking.

These amps were I suppose to be a hot rodded Marshall amp. Since most Marshall s were modded to high gain standards they decided to do this to rod version of the JCM800 and call it 900. The head version actually is tolerable but this ting is just trash.

UTILIZATION

Features:

* 50 or 100 Watts of power
* Two (50 watts) or Four (100 watts) EL34′s
* Three 12AX7′s

SOUNDS

I have heard this amp with multiple guitars and every time is sounds like trash. I can't believe this was a good idea for the folks at Marshal to think people would like this. Well we all know that it wasn't a hit and Marshall tries to scrub it self of this tragedy. You wolud see a reissue of this amp I can guaranty that.

What ever guitar you use try something with a humbucker installed pickup. Otherwise this thing won't carry any beef. The distortion is nasally and buzzy. I actually sounds like a can of bees buzzing around. I couldn't stand listening to it longer than I had too. The tone as just flat out terrible and processed sounding. It sounded like a solid state amp.

OVERALL OPINION

This amp is a big miss for me. I wouldn't pick this amp up if you paid me. No idea what the going rate for these are and frankly don't care either. These amps need to be torched and put out of our misery.

I wouldn't recommend this amp to anyone. If you want a hot rodded MArshall tone and don't want to spend more than a $1000 then get a used Marshall JCm2000 DSL 100. You can pick those up in the classifieds all day for about $695. Or even get a used JCm 800 for a little more and slap a Boss SD-1 in front and you'll be fine.

Gets it easy to sound good? : Good it's all relative everyone has their own taste ... I love Marshall's

The manual is clear and sufficient? Bin from the fact that it is in English otherwise not really need the manual

How would you rate the quality / price?
I pay 500 € OCCAZ with revision and change lamps ...

All-tube amp 50w, 50w still for a while I light the light is compared to current 50w, I get to play with at home without having to master the one.
In terms of connectors nothing to say it is complete (effects loop, 2 speaker outputs, one 4ohms/16ohms switch, 1 switch high / low ..).
Regarding the reverb I find it very interesting and especially hot.

UTILIZATION

Regarding the use it is all bogus, 1 channel 1 channel saturation clean the problem is that there is a equalizer for 2 damage.
If you do not spend too much time to find a good sound if you have some experience in my opinion given the simplicity of the instrument.

SOUNDS

I play pop / rock / indie with a zoom g5 I plug in effects loop and an Epiphone les paul royal black (not terrible compared to my style but with a microphone and a gibson jones tv equipped with a Bigsby I do not envy the Stratocaster or Telecaster) the sound is really class when I combine the pedal and the amp I feel like an amp worthy of the biggest stage.

In conclusion this amp is cut out for a little while the style except metal and hard rock so I would say I put him 10 as they suit me completely

OVERALL OPINION

I bought some on a whim I needed a good amp as soon as I saw in used 350euros I jumped I'm not disappointed with the time we see it give. What I like best about this amp is its compatibility with the effects it looks like it is made for playing with effects, but it is not very good and also the versatility I can take me to angus young and then play the Arctic monkeys Vaccines or is impressive even if I think the G5 has much to zoom.

One last thing is an amp that will likely appreciate in value over time so better take care! :)

Amp loupiote: 12x7 3 and two EL34

There are a rverb rather good, with this one hand SETTING THE canal. an effects loop with adjustable volume level, a DI out and exit HP compensated. A rglage Low / High also pretty good!

UTILIZATION

The config is simple, the sound is good, but no manual bought OCCAZ

The changes I made above:
HP Chang, the original G12T75 bofbof I half an Eminence Legend V12 Instead, the Celestion V30 in Shuya with more bass, and wao, what a pleasure!
MUCH more precision!!

Then the lights:

Chang's foot plastic rubber feet which absorb shock much better now, after the rpeter or lamps are hot this helps! I put the front foot more than behind, for a better angle (a semi-cutaway what)
Chang also reread the HP cable that has the amp for a larger section netement, the original cable is crappy!

Lamps backgrounds are crap you'll see the chang!
7 9 with no changes!

SOUNDS

Perfect for the PUNK! for rock, too, of Grunge, maybe for the very HxC but then college, because for the big sound it should not be inssufisant.

7 10 with no changes!

OVERALL OPINION

It's really a great amp at the base, with the changes (see above) it becomes a nuclear bomb for the punk!
A yes, the grips on the cot is a cado the sky! If only my C30 had also ...
