« Great cabinet »

The Randall R212 CB was designed by the company for optimal use with the Randall Modular Tube Series line of amplifiers. However, at its core it is basically a fairly standard 212 cabinet. It seems very similar to a Mesa Rectififer 212 as far as the construction, features and overall tonal characteristics. It has onboard XLR outs for going direct and also has onboard casters that easily pop out when needed. It's fairly heavy for a 212 and definitely the weight and dense construction play a part in the tone. It is loaded with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers, long regarded for their excellent midrange heavy voicing that works so well in the context of rock music. I personally have owned this cab and used it with various American and British voiced amplifier heads and always gotten the killer crunch and low end that I like in my tones. I particularly like the way this cab reacts with high gain US type amps for modern rock tones. Compared to my previous cab the Randall is thicker and has a much beefier sound due to its robust and solid design.
All in all I think the Randall R212 is a great alternative to a Mesa or other modern design 212 cabinet. They were about $600 new but can be had for a lot less if you are vigilant. It has many cool features and most importantly sounds quite good. Definitely worth a look!
