Difficult to obtain specific information about this guitar (even by contacting Takamine U.S.).
Here's what I know: Manufacturing japanese. The table is solid spruce (bookmatched), the bottom (also bookmatched) and sides Solid Flame Maple. Sunburst finish, hence the name SMAGS (spruce / Mapple / sunburst). Rosewood. Mahogany neck. A flawless production for this model published in a hundred copies only.
Piezo under the bridge. DSP digital preamp. This model jumbo, no cutaway, made late 90's no longer in the catalog and is virtually untraceable. Brand new in 99: 2500 dollars. Comes with a 'sarcophagus' resin (heavy, but tough!).
UTILIZATION
The jumbo corp is large (43.2cm lower end, upper end 31.7 cm, depth of body from 11 to 12 cm). No easy access for a small person. But once the grip control, we forget the volume of the body to retain only the volume: great sound, long, deep and clear at a time (effect of wood used). That happiness. Accuracy of notes, both in acute than in the midrange and bass.
Without cutaway, access to acute needs a bit of gymnastics, but his vocation would rather support the scene.
Very polyvalant qu'amplifiée both acoustic ... ? and value for money leaving far behind the other Gibson and Martin.
The handle is nice, not too fine, as is often the case on the japanese and 42 mm Nut.
At the time of its acquisition, the action was too high and I had to rework the bridge and the nut to get to the desired setting. Now she is perfect.
The perfect finish: beautiful sunburst, binding, mechanical ... What the pro stuff! (See Springsteen Superbowl 2009).
SOUNDS
This guitar, based on strings that are used, can pass a sound very dark and deep (Elixir Phosphor 13-56), or Martin 12-54, and become a real guitar blues / rock with 11 -52 (set for an electric ... Yes, I dared and it works with the thunder of God!).
on the other hand, it does not sound terrible at all games with lights too (10-46).
The preamp DSP offers 10 factory presets and 10 custom, in addition to the tuner, 2 reverbs and anti-feedback. A comprehensive pre-amp, but hungry batteries (2 AAA 1.5 V).
OVERALL OPINION
I use it at home and on stage for nearly 5 years. It still sounds as well. I do not trade for a Martin or a Gibson.
A bit bulky, certainly, but what a beautiful sound!
If other owners of this model could be known, I would be interested.
