Egg speakers creator Jack Munro, Reflexion Filter co-conceptor James Young, Philip Smith and Alan Gavin have come up with what they define as “the first truly British condenser microphone and accessory brand”. All products will be conceived, designed, and even manufactured in the United Kingdom.
Claiming to have “re-invented mic design”, the Aston team aims at taking advantage of the spiralling costs and quality consistency issues in China to prove the viability of re-localising quality manufacturing with a final retail price as highly competitive as any Chinese-made brand (and much less expensive than many of their European and American counterparts). After such an announcement, no doubt expectations should be rather high from the ensemble of the audio communauty, both qualitywise and pricewise. Oh, and if you thought this is too much teasing, look at their presentation video:
(Oh, and no, this is not a mistake: although named Aston the company involves no partner named Martin. This was the mandatory car-oriented, British-humoured pun of the day – whichever day it may be in your time zone.)
