MGR/Davey Havoc
« Peavey Basic 112 »
Published on 05/05/03 at 15:00Purchased from a music store at the local mall in my home town. $499 Canadian.
I don't know why this amp gets such flak from everyone who uses it. I use own two Basic 112s that I stack to compose my rig (send a patch cord from the 'send' port of one amp the input of the other), so it's plenty loud without being as big, cumbersome or expensive as a cabinet. The two combine is a little less powerful that a 1x18.
While the 112 is lacking in the punch category, it's not nearly as bad as most people say. Contrary to what you might have heard, it does not indeed have "zero punch". If that is the case with you, my guess is you don't have the treble up enough on your bass, or your blend is too high.
Very sturdy. They stack well, and I don't fear that one will break under the weight of the other. Fairly heavy (48 lbs. each) but not impossible to carry by hand.
These things are built tough. Made for the musician who likes to play actual shows, but doesn't to throw down thousands on a Marshall stack.
