I actually received the guitar as a gift from a dear friend, back in 1994. He had purchased it "New" from a music store in Portland OR. If I recall correctly, he paid $375. I'm a banjo player, at heart, and had been playing alot of bluegrass festivals. Having picked various guitars over the years, I had sort of a feel for what I was looking for in a guitar. From the first "D" chord i strummed, right up to this moment, I've been playing this instrument. It's been to more campfire and beach parties than most Jimmy Buffet fans and is still producing rich, deep tones. In fact, it sounds better today than in 1994. I've since played a few Martin, Taylor and similar quality guitars. which, by the way, are the finest playing/sounding guitars on the planet, and this D12S will give a Martin D18 a good run for its money. I wouldn't, however, have paid $1,200.00 for the D12S. But anything less than $400 would be a steal
