Roland PM-30

The PM-30 Drum monitor is something I went without for too long. I had a nice set of V-drums back in 2003 and would plug in a headphone set and play like that. Otherwise, I would direct in to my soundboard and blast them through my PA system. I probably did a ton of damage to the cones pushing through the kick drum sounds. I came across one of these 2.1 speakers in a box systems, and couldn’t pass it up. It packs a 200 watt amp, a really nice 12” woofer and a pair of 4” satellite speakers. I really would have never thought having this unit would improve the sound from my headphones, but I made the switch and am never going back.

As for the sound, this unit packs a serious punch. It’s weird at first when you are in person listening ot this little speaker as it blasts away. Surely I was amazed, dumbfounded by how much sound comes out this fairly compact unit. The highs/lows are well balanced, and in the stock configuration with little messing around with the DSP controls this unit sounds perfect paired to my Roland TD-20SX set. I never turn mine up past 6, not because I’m scared of damage, but because there has never been a need. I mount the satellite speakers on the rack and they give a realistic feel to the set when playing that doesn’t feel right without.

For transportation, I’ve found this unit is a breeze to move around because it has two side handles for easy lifting, as well as a handle bar across the top which also serves a dual purpose as a safety net for falling objects hitting and damaging the controls. Drum hardware can do damage especially when falling, that’s why I always try and keep the knobs and electronic stuff away from my set. This was something I was a bit worried about, but have since been relieved to note the above handle bar there to prevent such accidents.

First of all, at the store I cranked the Roland PM-30 monitors to about 85% volume and they are pretty loud even though they seem small! Even at almost full volume they delivered top quality audio without any distortion. The radical curved design on the front is not just for looks. The curve helps reduce diffraction and phasing issues, and it really works. I decided to go with these over my other Mackie monitors because I wasn't satisfied with the balance and the lack of bass, there wasn't enough “boom“! So I returned to the nearest Guitar Center and returned it for a pair of these PM 30‘s! I'm more than satisfied with these monitors! They've got great knobs in the back that click to each turn and the audio is well balanced in my opinionated ears , it's got good compatibility with different audio connections!


These Roland PM 30’s deliver perfectly crisp high end and punchy low-end. Third, if you plan on using these monitors to just listen to music you may have to do a little EQ-ing. These monitors give a very flat frequency response which is great for mastering, but not ideal for listening to music or movies. These are strictly for the studio so don’t try to use them for something else. They will give you a very accurate sound in your mixes, very flat response and clean and crisp sound. No matter what DAW you use or Audio controller these will sound great and bring your mixes where you want them to be.


Overall, these monitors are very very good for their price. I would recommend these to anyone looking for a pair of studio monitors. Get these for your Home Studio so I can bring projects home from work, and have to say the Pm 30’s are great. If you are looking for good monitors and are on a budget get the Roland PM - 30 Monitors, you won't be disappointed.

This is the amp for electronic drums par excellence. It can also serve as a small sound of relief.
Its multiple inputs allow him to use it also as a return. And the drummer can adjust its own level and the back. This amp is powerful enough for the scene as repetition.

I recommend using the Samson S-Convert lives on to convert a balanced signal to unbalanced stereo signal connected to the amp. This corrects input levels and have no problem with interference on scenes where the console is off.

Coupled with an electronic drum kit Roland TD-20, you can not do better as his. The two satellites located nearby ensure a good immersion while the subwoofer placed under severe toms and bass drum near the well can feel the bass as if they came really drums.

The sound is thin enough, it may be perhaps perfectible in use in studio, live hand, the record is there to be little that is done to the sound of electronic drums. By connecting the headphone output of the TD-20 to V-drum specific input of the amp, there is a button "punch" that somehow boost the sound to give it more dynamic. The equalizer allows the most demanding fine tune, knowing that the battery has not bad.

I use it for 4 years, I bought it along with my battery. Returns compared to traditional, it already brings the stereo, which is not negligible for comfort drummer Furthermore, it allows a certain proximity to the speakers and thus to refine the rendering and immersion drummer.

This is for me the best solution compared to earphones or headphones that completely isolates the rest of the group and returns compared to traditional arranged on the ground. Which is often made quite flat and cold because of their remoteness.

An amplified sound system for electronic drums and can therefore withstand the low frequencies as acute.

The use may be working in an apartment or sound with electronic drums in small rooms type bar but after several tries, the system can serve returns, hi fi or even sound to a voice in a small room.

The subwoofer has two functions is in "low" mode and sound "normal". Both have advantages and incovénients. Mode "low" can distinguish the bass drum and bass relief on the speakers, but this method lacks power to push a little less than the amount which is not very natural to listen because we the feeling of being overwhelmed low. In fact the sound in "sound normal" is more powerful but the bass is dispersed both the small speakers and subwoofer but eventually this function is more natural to listen.

The sound is quite clear and precise, There are over a three-band equalizer that can correct frequency.

I use it for a year and a half sporadically, because I wanted a sound with electronic drums for concerts but there's nothing like an acoustic drum because the approach is not very natural, but when you have no choice we live in an apartment that's the case.

What I like most about this system is that it may well serve as a hi fi sound system, returns for concerts as its ability to collect bass and treble remains important.

The least is that the sound does not measure up to real drums, and finally it is the usual criticism of the electronics and batteries I already knew. Also mix a battery with a low or a track is quite tricky because the frequencies are mixed, we must assign it to one instrument for clarity.

I had already tried a system of greater power, but we find the same problems already mentioned.

The value for money: cheap but actually quite profitable because it can be used in several contexts.

I do it again this choice because there is not much amplified systems at this price that can withstand the sounds of a drum machine.
