I play on a Select Export for 4 years (2004 version: 100% poplar / snare included) so I will note the version I use.
This kit is very versatile, but offer a real personality: the sound is round, warm, rather than large rock fusion.
Toms separate media and suspensions "ISS" allow interesting combinations and investments in small kit. The hardware in general is impeccable.
The finish is also very good: varnish, rings, inner barrels.
The Export Select is the same price in 2008 than in 2004 (€ 1,100 approx.) Maple certainly, but not without snare and cymbal stand. Honestly, then as now, I'd better deal with M BIRCH or a superstar.
