Best value: Excellent
Analog compressor pedal, but not that! rather complete with three adjustable parameters to manage the levels of output, stroke and compression. Suberbe robust and lightweight body as is always the case with MXR Powered by 9v battery or seceur via adapter not included.

UTILIZATION

Configuration rather simple in view of the presence of three potentiometers but the settings are both sensitive and subtle shades obtained, this pedal requires a learning curve to get the or sound (s) desired.
The manual, as always, is minimal but enough to understand how that is quite accessible.

SOUND QUALITY

Like all effects of this nature, it should clearly define their expectations and to understand how the settings interfere with each other.
Basically, we can focus on two types of sounds: a punchy and clear sound linear and / or a popping sound with a big sustain and overall smoothness.
The Super Comp provides both sound very effectively and without iron out the coloration of its own gitare or effects that follow. Compared to the other compressor brand-Dyna Comp this effect gives a more modern sound but it turns out just as effective with the most made by adjusting the attack. Very useful in recording or rhythmic arpeggios its clear, it provides a sound that I described above "linear", that is to say, without rising or falling level: compressed, what! This is especially interesting when using effect "turning point" (a phasing or flanger) who also plays on the level at its phase "rotation", so we get a better consistency with the compressor plays the role of a limiter. With OD or distortion pedals, Super Comp provides sustain that can be infinite while thinning effect given by a strong gain. It is necessary, in this association, taking into account the wind generated by the compressor itself and the distortion pedal that follows: therefore be avoided to gain it thoroughly and remain on reasonable level settings and compressing this MXR. Under these conditions, we will ace a very small level of noise perfectly manageable without using a noise gate.

OVERALL OPINION

This pedal is great and really effective. Perhaps more boilerplate than its predecessor the DynaComp, it naturally found its place in all the pedals board guitarists who want the sustain and greater linearity volume. I use the MXR compressor for ages and I have three. Depending on the sound desired result, I chose one over another and I get in any case what I want.
The reliability is not an empty word in MXR whose quality control seems to top.
The price / quality ratio is excellent.
Another great MXR!
