Made in China. 21 frets, tune normal 34 ", 2 single coil pickups Fender Jazz bass type passive, positioned as a Jazz bass. Easel Peavey solid, allowing the choice of passing strings through the body of the bass, or not. The bridge can of course adjust the string length and height. knob Each microphone has a volume and there is a single tone overall. Bolt with 5 screws, slim, not thick, not too large (although for small hands ). The width at nut is 38 mm to 12 mm box 55, the 21st case 61 mm. The distance between strings at the neck pickup is 18 mm. The reinforcing rod is easily adjustable. The low 2 years ago I was provided with a set of climbing ropes Peavey "nickel wound 45s balanced" way of pulling (45, 65, 80, 105). These are the strings to 20 euros, not bad, but we find them easily. The reinforcing rod is almost fully with these strings and a fairly low action. This may be so low would find it difficult to accept a stronger pull. Instead I put Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky 45 65 85 105 (closer to 20 euros), it looks pretty, with a slight improvement. The lifts are good agreement.
The overall finish is good, but there were a few blocks from welding in the compartment of the pots, which led to short circuits. Inspection and an iron shot came to end.
UTILIZATION
After a few settings (I have a fairly low action), the handle is very nice. Access to acute is average, but for my part I rarely venture beyond the 12th box. The bass is balanced in the game up, it is rather lightweight (3.8 kg with the strap). Beware the dorsal horn is long enough, we must give it a try before you buy a hard case. I bought the Gator and I had to pry a little on the interior trim to make it fit.
I play with the thumb on the neck pickup, and this mic is well placed for that, not overlooked disturbing that ruins the thumb.
This bass has good sustain, the sound comes out well on all the boxes. The strings which I had been home are not marshmallows and can play both the jazz funk. They held three years before there is one that breaks. They had lost their gloss, but when I play with others in the group, two guitars, drums, percussion, singing largely cover all the finesse that I might have in the treble. By placing a microphone or the other or both are already obtained three distinct sounds, and then is adjusted with a preamp and I think you can get a sound for any situation. The two pickups together are used as humbucker, breath or hum potential are reduced in this position.
SOUNDS
The bridge pickup is only for the Jaco. I prefer the neck pickup alone, which gives a fatter, fuller.
I play Afro Latin funk, and I have no problem with this instrument. My system consists of the bass, Hartke bass attack pedal as a preamp, a 100W amp head that I made with my small hands, a baffle Behringer BB115.
When I train early in the morning not to wake the others, I play without the plug, and of course the sound is not loud, but I hear all the notes, even on the E string.
OVERALL OPINION
I use this bass for 3 years. In fact I have the model "transparent blue", the LH model is the sunburst version, but other color is the same.
For less than 250 euros was more than correct a low, no particular defects, with a pleasant handle. Last year I tried everything that was in many stores, regardless of price, and I did not want to change my Peavey. I think that to have much better there must be three times the price. I would do this choice.
